Volume XXII Issue 7 July 2016 Where Love Lives Many years ago, a little girl named Mary was growing up in an orphanage. As each month passed, the placement of Mary grew more and more difficult because most families wanted babies and Mary had already turned six. In those days, the adoption process permitted a home visit as part of the placement of children, so on many occasions, Mary had visited inside the homes of potential parents. Following each of these visits, the placement director, Mrs. Ferrell, would sit down and talk with the children who had visited a home. She would always ask the child, What type of house would you like to live in? Some children would respond with answers such as, I want to live in a big house with a big front porch and a swing set in the back yard. Other children might say that they wanted to live in a house where they could have a puppy or kitten. Often the children s response was simply a description of the house they had just visited. In their minds any house was a home where they could belong and where they no longer had to be identified as an orphan. Mary s answers were always along this nature. However, after one particular visit everything changed. When asked about the type of house she wanted to live in, she responded, I want to live in a house where love lives. Mrs. Ferrell was immediately taken back. She had never heard such an answer. No doubt something had happened during Mary s last visit. Upon further investigation, she learned that the young couple Mary had visited with, had spent the day arguing and bickering. Mary wanted no part of that. Mary was ultimately saying, you can keep your big house; you can keep the old porch swing and you can even keep your kitten. I choose love. The same holds true for churches. As people visit churches, they may initially say that they are looking for a church with a dynamic preacher, great music, or some program for their children, but in reality what they ultimately seek is love. Jesus said, A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another (John 13:34-35). When people come visit a church, they always want to know, Does love live here? I am so thankful to say that love does live at the Chapel, but let us always be seeking new ways to express Christ-like love to people who long to be adopted into our family. In this way we will be a blessing to God. Pastor Joey 1 July 2016

PICTORIAL DIRECTORY The Pictorial Directory Committee will be making appointments following the Morning Worship Service in the fellowship hall to have your pictures taken. The dates available to have your picture taken will be July 7, 8, or 9, and 21, 22 or 23. We would like to get everyone (members, nonmembers, visitors, etc.) in our church directory, so please make an appointment and come out and get your individual or family picture taken. Thank you. WMU #2 News July meeting date has been changed to Monday, July 11 th due to Independence Day. We will be going to Agape Pregnancy Support Center and then out to eat. You can get a bottle from Jessica Masters or Deborah Hall. July 2016 2

What is YOUR ministry? Reflecting on the memorial service for Diane Tyndall, I was made aware of how many lives she touched while bedridden and living in a nursing home. She was unable to attend church at Baptist Chapel, yet she ministered to so many of us blessed to receive a card for birthday, anniversary or other special occasion. She remained faithful to the end to HER ministry. She considered it what she was called to do and did so with determination and love, even when the pain was great and each card was a struggle to complete. Why do something when it was difficult and painful? Would you do something when you received absolutely nothing in return, when each letter you write causes excruciating pain? Would you do something when you rarely received a Thank You from the recipient? Would you do something for someone you may not even know? I know that I personally received cards from Diane before I ever met her, but that did not matter to her. When I did meet her, she was such a joy. Although she grew up among those in this church and community, she was unable to attend for the last few years and to see those she considered friends. I am sure she loved and prayed for so many of those she had shared happy times with in the past. Her card ministry was a way she could encourage us. I know I will miss these cards of love. I do hope she knew she was missed at church by those who knew her for many years. Now to think about this personally, WHAT IS YOUR MINISTRY? Are you more involved than just attending church on Sunday morning? What do you do as a member of the body of Christ? Are you actively involved or passively sitting on the sidelines? What is the impact of sitting on the sidelines? Is there someone who may not learn about Jesus because you are afraid you don t know the right words to say? Do you think that if you invite someone to church they will say NO, so you don t even ask? Do you think that maybe someone else is better equipped to share the gospel with your friends? Do you think that maybe God does not expect you to do much for Him? Do others see Jesus in you? There are lots of EXCUSES for not being more involved. But that is all they are, excuses. I challenge each of you to think about the questions above. I pray we all are open to the multitude of ministry activities we may be called to do. It may not be easy, but I guarantee it will be rewarding. Not just to you, but maybe even more to someone else. Be an ACTIVE part of the body of Christ. In Christ s Love Annette Cash, WMU Director 3 July 2016

LITERATURE Every month our old literature (SS Quarterlies, Open Windows, Home Life, Mature Living, and any other devotional materials) are taken to the Christian Food Bank of Salemburg. When bread is packed for distribution, a piece of literature is placed in each bag. So please, don't throw out your old materials. Bring them back so that they can bless someone else. INDEPENDENCE DAY On July 4, the United States will celebrate Independence Day. For you history buffs and young people, this is when the United States broke free from England and formed an independent nation. Religious freedom is one of the main reasons the original founders left England searching for a new world. I hope that everyone that reads this can also celebrate your own Independence Day. No, I am not referring to July 4 th. I am referring to the day you made the decision to break free from the chains of this world and put your dependence in a risen Savior. Sadly, I know that everyone that reads this will not be able to make this statement. Wouldn t it be amazing if they could? Satan is as sly as a fox. He doesn t come to us with horns, pitch fork, and colored in red like the old cartoons illustrated. I don t think that he would attract many followers in that attire, do you? Satan comes to us as objects that we desire. For some that could be popularity, high paying jobs, glamorous lifestyles, new cars, new friends, etc. Satan will take the shape of any form that draws our attention away from God. Remember what happened when Peter took his eyes off of Jesus while walking on water, he began to sink. We are no different. When we take our eyes off of Jesus, we will sink into the pleasures of the world. It will not happen all at once. It will happen slowly over a period of time. It will be so slow for most that we will not even recognize it is happening until it is too late. We need to say yes to God and no to Satan. Luke 9:23, And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. This is Jesus speaking with the twelve disciples. We have to die to our sinful self daily. Jesus did not tell the disciples to simply take up the cross and follow him but he told them to DAILY take up the cross and follow him. Satan is constantly trying to pull us away from God. We are also told through God s word that Jesus is seeking to find all the lost sheep. Jesus s desire is for everyone to go to Heaven. Nothing would be better than for Hell to only contain Satan and his demons. If God made the choice for us, that s the way it would be. However, God gave everyone free will. It has to be our choice to follow Jesus and put our trust in Him. Why do we make it so hard? Are you able to celebrate your Independence Day from the sin of this world? Will your name be found in the Book of Life at the Great Judgment? If you answered no, then why not? America is also once again enslaved. America is enslaved to the Prince of Darkness. You only have to turn on the news or radio for just a few minutes if you don t agree. When did it suddenly change that being right is wrong and being wrong is right? There is so much violence in the country. Just sit and listen to the youth and adults that went to World Changers. They stayed at a church that was fenced off from the remainder of the community. When asked what the church was doing in the community, the response was nothing. It is no wonder that Satan has taken over the world when the church isolates itself and refuses to go beyond the fence. There is a lost and dying world and the only way the message will get out is through us. If you want others to be able to celebrate their Independence Day, then it is time for each of us to act. Step outside of the fence and experience the blessing of sharing with others. Sincerely, Scott Brown 7 July 2016
