on the 1 st Sunday of the month and 11.00 a.m. on the 3 rd Sunday of the month. September 2015 Edition Welcome Each one of you receiving this knows that Clifton Springs UMC has a long tradition as a place of welcome to all. I have heard stories of folks of all generations, all communities near and far who have been welcomed home into this church family. In the wonderful sanctuary with accessibility to all, everyone can participate in singing, prayers and the total worship experience. The fall schedule begins on September 13 th as follows: 9:00 a.m. Worship in a more contemporary style, concluding so that all may attend Sunday scool which follows. 9:45 a.m. Sunday scool for all children, youth and adults. (See more dates and details in this edition of our Connection.) 11:00 a.m. Worship in a more traditional style. I want you to know the sacrament of Holy Communion will be celebrated on September 6 th at the 9:30 a.m. service for all and again on September 20 th at the 11:00 a.m. service. All are welcome to receive communion. Starting in October, for the next several months, communion is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. Christ calls each of us to an abundant way of life that includes our body, mind, and Spirit. This faith community has opportunities for you in all these areas. Fellowship, study, and service are tailored for persons with various interests. Speak with me or another leader in the church if you have other suggestions for our life together. I do ask that you pray for the life and ministry of this faith community. Prayer is the heart of God s church. Pray for each person who steps through our doors. Pray that each worship service, Bible study, group, and activity will be a holy experience. Pray for yourself, and others. Pray that seekers and new people will come and find a welcoming family of the saints of God. With peace and joy, Steve Deckard Caring and Sharing (New Day New Time) The next gathering of th Caring and Sharing group will be on Wednesday, Sept. 9 th at 11:30 am. We will be meeting at the Countryside Family Restaurant for lunch. After lunch we will be having a discussion on the future of the Caring and Sharing Group. It is now time to prepare for the Operation Christmas Child; the filling of shoe boxes with presents for the children around the world. Even if shopping, etc. is a problem for you, you can still participate in this project. While grocery shopping purchase some school supplies (pencils, crayons), bring them to our next gathering. They will be collected and turned over to Web Pearsall. His group will put other things with them to fill a shoe box. Web was most grateful for all we collected last year. Please remember we welcome anyone who is available during the daytime to come and join our group.

Library Notes The books on the shelves in the Grace Center have been changed! Many of the books in the new collection feature Prayer. Some of the titles are How to Hear From God by Joyce Meyer; Praying God s Word by Beth Moore; The Incredible Power of Prayer by Roger Morneau; The Power of Praying Together by Stormie Omartian; The Power of Simple Prayer by Joyce Meyer, and others. In fiction there are books by Beverly Lewis, the author of many Amish stories including The Revelation, The Sacrifice and The Confession. If you are a reader of Cup of Soup books there is A Cup of Soup for the Christian Soul. Do browse through the books and remember the library is always open for your use. Small Group Possibilities From Pastor Steve: I am considering small group short term studies. Let me know if either or both of these are of interest to you. I would enjoy leading a group (at least 5 folks). I am sure we can find a mutually good time. Check out these and let me know your first choice: a paper note, call, or e-mail will help. Embracing the Journey by Rueben P. Job & Marjorie J. Thompson. The Christian spiritual life is more of a journey than a destination. Embrace this journey so you can know and love God and fulfill your potential as God s child. 5 weeks, includes reflection questions. Pilgrimage into the Last Third of Life by Jane Marie Thibault & Richard L. Morgan. Do you dread growing old? Thibault and Morgan suggest approaching this season of life as a pilgrimage a journey filled with meaning and opportunities for spiritual growth. 7 weeks, includes reflection questions. Sew Sisters News All women are invited to join the Sew Sisters at their next gathering on Saturday, September 19 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the Grace Center. We will have a lesson in paper piecing followed by a project that will enable you to use your paper-piecing skills. There will be a comparable project for those who would like to do the project by traditional quilting methods. If you prefer, you can come and work on your own project(s) or just sit and visit with us. Please RSVP to hpearsall@rochester.rr.com by Thursday, September 17, if you plan on coming so we can reserve a table for you. Looking ahead, October s meeting will be on Saturday, October 17. Hope you can join us for a meeting this Fall! A Special Thank you to a Special Lady The following article is taken from the Golden Grapevine publication for August-September 2015. For 28 years, Jeanne Smith from the Clifton Springs United Methodist Church has written birthday cards and made craft project gifts for each and every one of our residents for their birthdays. After nearly three decades of service to our residents, Jeanne is retiring. For many of our residents, that craft project may be the only birthday gift they are given each year. Her simple act of kindness means so much to so many, yet she gets no recognition. We wanted everyone to know who it was that is making the lovely bird house gifts that are displayed in your loved-one s room for the past year, and the countless other crafts she has created as gifts over the years. A note from Jeanne: All materials for these craft gifts have been paid for by the UMW. This has been our mission in giving to the nursing home residents. Jeanne, we are proud to know you! You are a shining example of what it means to be a loving, giving Christian. Thank you! Altar Flowers There is a flower chart on the door between sanctuary and Grace Center. If you would like to donate flowers on a particular Sunday, please sign up on the chart. You may have them listed in the bulletin in honor/memory of anyone you d like. Purchase them or bring home-grown from your garden and have them on the altar that Sunday. Thank you.
