Page 3 May 6, 2018 Staff Extensions Second Collection Next Weekend for Diocesan Home Missions Next weekend, May 12/13, a second collection will be taken up for our Diocesan Home Missions. The proceeds of the Home Mission Collection are used to establish a fund from which grants are made to our mission parishes and to our smaller parishes (those with less than $250,000 of revenue). These grants help the parishes make repairs and minor capital improvements that they otherwise would not be able to do. A grant committee comprised of the regional vicars and the director of the office of finance reviews the grants and recommends grants to the Bishop. Over the past seven years $789,613 of grants have been given to 54 parishes. Thanks to the generosity of the people of the diocese these funds have made a real difference. Support our Parish! Did you know that you can help support our parish with no extra cost to you!? Go to our website, olmc.org, and click on the link Our Parish Fundraisers on the right hand side of the page. On this page you will find information about: our Manna gift card program linking your Kroger Plus Card to our parish ordering from Amazon with a percentage going to OLMC Parish Registration Welcome! As we reflect on recognizing Jesus in the Breaking of the Bread, think for a moment whether there is someone you could invite to Mass and to explore what else the Catholic Faith might hold for them. For information on Christian initiation or RCIA, call or email Christa. Catholics Come Home OLMC will begin a series for nonpracticing Catholics who are seeking answers to questions about returning to the Church. Do you know someone who has left the Church? They are waiting for the invitation to return! Our program begins soon! For more information call 595-0385, ext. 107.

Every SINGLE item counts. MAY is Migration Awareness Month The Israelites experience of living as homeless aliens was so painful and frightening that God ordered his people for all time to have special care for the alien. (USCCB) The social teaching of the Church reminds us that we ought to treat those who flee their countries for various reasons with mercy & dignity. Three basic principles of Catholic social teaching on immigration are summed up by the United States Conference for Catholic Bishops below: 1 st Principle: People have the right to migrate in order to sustain their lives and the lives of their families. Every person has an equal right to receive from the earth what is necessary for life food, clothing, shelter. In Luke s Gospel, the rich man was condemned for living well while the poor man starved at his doorstep (Luke 16:19-31). 2 nd Principle: A country has the right to regulate its borders and to control immigration. Those who work to enforce our nation s immigration laws often do so out of a sense of loyalty to the common good and compassion for poor people seeking a better life. The overriding principle of all Catholic social teaching is that individuals must make economic, political, and social decisions not out of shortsighted selfinterest, but with regard for the common good. 3 rd Principle: A country must regulate its borders with justice and mercy. A country s regulation of borders and control of immigration must be governed by concern for all people and by mercy and justice.
