PASTOR S CORNER One of the joys of the Christmas season is the sheer volume of Christmas music that is played on the radio between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Even though there are twelve days of Christmas, the programming comes to a screeching halt at the end of Christmas Day. Maybe they ve just had too many lords-a-leaping and maids-a-milking in their studios! On my short drive to church one morning, I heard a choir sing one of my favorite old American hymns, Jesus Christ the Apple Tree on Minnesota Public Radio. I don t know the story behind it, but the hymn expresses the point of view of a Christian who has looked for happiness and pleasure everywhere else, but didn t find it until he found it in Jesus Christ: For happiness I long have sought And pleasure dearly I have bought For happiness I long have sought And pleasure dearly I have bought I missed of all but now I see tis found in Christ the apple tree. I m weary with my former toil Here I will sit and rest awhile I m weary with my former toil Here I will sit and rest awhile Under the shadow I will be Of Jesus Christ the apple tree. When we have looked everywhere on earth and come up empty handed, will we realize that what Peter preached in Acts 4: 12 is still true today? Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved." Everything we need can be found in Jesus Christ if we are willing to rest under his shadow. Like a tree heavy with apples in the fall, he offers satisfying food to all who are willing to look to him: life, salvation, comfort, hope. There is a double meaning in the word tree as well, as this word has referred to the cross since the New Testament era. 2015 was a hard year for some of us. 2016 will not be a perfect year on earth, either. But the strength of Jesus Christ is ours by virtue of his death and resurrection and by the comfort the Holy Spirit brings to us in our times of trial. Sit and rest awhile with your Savior. Listen to his invitation! Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Yours in Christ, Pastor Steven Bielenberg Christmas Un-Decorating we will be taking down the church Christmas tree and all of the decorations on Saturday, Jan 9 at 9 am. Please come and help so the work will go quickly. A BIG THANK YOU to all the musicians who gave so much of their time, energy and musical talents to lead us in praise during this Advent/Christmas season. Many hours went into practicing! Thank you especially to the directors of all the groups for the extra effort to lift up the name of Jesus. We are truly blessed to have so many dedicated and talented musicians at King of Kings! Principal s News & Notes National Lutheran Schools Week is January 24 30. 2016 NATIONAL LUTHERAN SCHOOLS WEEK PROCLAMATION Whereas, Scripture promises that, God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord (1 Cor. 1:9 ESV); and Whereas, That fellowship, or life together in Christ, is created by Him. It also creates a life together with others in Christ, and that fellowship manifests itself in Lutheran schools across the country, in art rooms and gyms, in cafeterias and on school buses; and Whereas, Dr. Martin Luther believed strongly that a Christian education ought to be of paramount importance to parents and guardians, writing that, Where the Holy Scriptures are not the rule, I advise no one to send his child. Everything must perish where God s Word is not studied unceasingly (Address to the Christian Nobility of the German Nation, 1520); and Whereas, Pastors and church workers continue to champion Lutheran education and all its benefits; and Whereas, They do so because Lutheran schools mesh high-quality education with sound theology, providing an environment that accomplishes that which Dr. Luther discussed: emphasizing God s faithfulness and the certainty of His Word, while also being distinctly education-focused and learning driven; and Whereas, Lutheran schools embody the Synod s emphasis on life together that is, joyful fellowship grounded in a common, faithful confession of who Jesus is and what He has done and they also remind all students of their value and worth on account of Christ, highlighting that which is at the heart and core of what makes Lutheran schools and students unique; and Whereas, Christ s free gifts of wisdom, thought, effort and inquiry are daily promoted in Lutheran classrooms, hallways and chapels, encouraging thoughtful discussion and rigorous study that find their beginning and end in Him alone; and Whereas, The Synod continues to hold up learning as a mission priority, bearing witness to the world that promoting and enhancing Lutheran education is important not only to Lutheran educators but to the Church at-large; therefore, be it Resolved, That Jan. 24 30, 2016, be officially proclaimed as National Lutheran Schools Week in The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, in the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Rev. Dr. Matthew C. Harrison President, The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod Share the good news about King of Kings Lutheran School! Word-of-mouth is the most powerful source of marketing. Share the good news about our school with your family, friends, and neighbors. Let them know about our upcoming open house: Thursday, January 28, 5:00-7:00 p.m. Congratulations to our 5/6 basketball teams! Both teams concluded their season by competing in the TCLAC conference tournament the second weekend in December. The boys team finished in fourth place and the girls came away with a third place finish. Thank you to our boys coach, Brad Sell, and to our girls coach, Adam Landvik. Feed My Starving Children Service Event: On Friday, December 18 th the fifth through eighth grade students packed meals at Feed My Starving Children in Anoka.
