The Emmaus News Columbus Indiana Area Emmaus Community, Inc. July 2018 volume 26 issue 7 A Note from the Community Lay Director Jane and I just returned from a trip to Niagara Falls, Ontario, and eastern United States. What a beautiful experience and how much we saw God s creation and power illustrated in these magnificent water falls. Seeing the rainbows from the boat trip was an awesome experience. We then traveled down through the States of New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio and finally home. Each day we had the opportunity to see God s creation and the beauty that He created in each area we visited. We met many different people on our trip and had an opportunity to share our love for the Lord. It became very clear to us that each and every day we are faced with the choice to look at life through two very distinct lenses: The first is through the lens of our circumstances If things are good, life is good; if things are bad then life is bad. The second is through the lens of God s character His sovereignty, His unfailing love, His creation, His justice, and His kind intention to use any and every circumstance to draw us to Himself, transform our hearts, and fill us with joy as we declare... The Lord is good to everyone. He showers compassion on all his creation. All of your works will thank you, Lord, and your faithful followers will praise you. They will speak of the glory of your kingdom; they will give examples of your power. They will tell about your mighty deeds and about the majesty and glory of your reign. For your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom. You rule throughout all generations. The Lord always keeps his promises; he is gracious in all he does. - Psalm 145:9-13 NLT My memory today of the experience of seeing the stage production of Jesus in Ronks, PA. We experienced this with approximately 2,000 other attendees. The story of Jesus and his unfailing love for us and the fact He is alive today, was an awesome opportunity to experience and share with others. We will look forward to seeing you all on July 20th at East Columbus Methodist Church! Phil Newton, Community Lay Director

A Note from our Spiritual Director... Emmaus Friends... The Upper Room, parent of the Emmaus & Chrysalis events, has developed a new experience designed for Middle-School age youth (apologies to the Emmaus Board for reporting the wrong age group). It s called a Discovery Weekend, which is led by and held in a local church! The website describes it in this way: Discovery Weekend is for the entire church family. Middle school youth, no matter where they are on their faith journey, are invited to attend. High school youth lead small groups and worship. Parents share gifts of love, presence, and prayer. Youth leaders provide overall leadership, direction, and supervision of the weekend. Church parishioners serve on the Discovery team. Sunday school classes and small groups provide prayer support, meals, and snacks. Clergy help with teaching, provide spiritual guidance, and, with parental involvement, celebrate baptism. If this experience sounds like a great spiritual formation opportunity for your congregation, learn more by going to the Upper Room website. Or check it out on Facebook at www.facebook.com/discovery.upperroom. De Colores, Pastor Mike Seaney (Community Spiritual Director)

SPONSORSHIP SPONSORING: It is never too early to be praying for the upcoming walks and whom might God be putting on your heart to sponsor. Also, be aware that the Board has approved putting an additional two liner at end of candidate's application for candidate to check whether they want their email address to be put in the database for newsletters and strictly Emmaus reminders We are aware that some people may not want their email known and some would list their email if they knew it would be used in confidence for newsletter. Never used by a second or third party. I have received email addresses since this last walk since not everyone understood this. And in today's world it is good to be cautious. REUNION GROUPS: I hope everyone has found a small group to be "at home" with for prayer and support. Your reunion group can be a new one or you can join an established one. It can be two people meeting, texting, praying, messaging, etc. in support of each other and accountability to each other. It could be 10 people who meet over a meal for 1 hour or several (according to one's schedule and inclination). The point of a reunion group is to be reminded frequently that we are not doing this walk alone; there are others surrounding us who can be helpful. It is a reminder that in "Counting On Christ" that we need others sometimes to help us be faithful to the max. "Christ is counting on you; and I am counting on Christ!" God Bless you, Marsha Rodenberger MUSIC TEAM Psalm 92:1 It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, O Most High, proclaiming your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night, to the music of the ten-stringed lyre and the melody of the harp. It was a wonderful evening of praise and worship at the June Gathering out at Ogilville UMC. The Emmaus music team 'Awaken' led us in worship with beautiful words and music. Thank you Marissa, Mark, Carmie, Lee, Dick and Gary. Anyone interested in joining the Awaken team for a gathering, please contact me at sootdaddy@gmail.com All musical talent is welcome to join in. The fall walk music teams are forming and God is providing the musicians. Anyone interested in playing on a walk music team can contact me as well. DeColores Mark Neafus

A Note from Team Selection... The Team Selection process for the Fall walks is underway. Please be in prayer for Dave Goodner & Debbie Schill as they prepare for Walk 109 & 110. If you are interested in serving on either of the Fall walks, please go to our Emmaus Website and follow the link for "Walk Team Application". Brenda Stoner, Team Selection A Note from the Chrysalis Lay Director They say it takes a village to raise a teenager. I would say this is true; not necessarily for raising them physically, but it definitely takes a village to raise them with a faith that sticks. 59% of Millennials who grow up in church end up leaving the church, many of them for good. Teens today are facing more spiritual warfare than any generation before them. Society and culture are tugging at them from every direction and very little of that tugging is positive. Christian teens face a real struggle because they're going against the grain of what society is telling them. This is why Chrysalis is so important in the lives of teens. It gives them the opportunity to get to know and grow with other Christians their own age and to realize that they're not alone in their pursuit for Christ. Any time that teens are involved, there's bound to be chaos. However, among the chaos are hearts seeking God and lives being changed! Take some time to pray about teens you may know (children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, neighbors, or others at your church) who could benefit from experiencing Chrysalis and make the investment of sponsorship. I guarantee that their life will be changed and that your heart will be full. We would love to have full flights this Labor Day, and I know that you can help make it happen! Fly with Christ! Leah Griffin, Chrysalis Community Lay Director
