Upcoming Events The next KCYC BINGO NIGHT will be Friday, June 1st. Come play from 5:30pm - 7:30pm. The bar and clubhouse will open at 5pm. Jan Erikson is preparing homemade lasagna, salad and dessert.the bar will remain open until 9pm.
On the evening of June 2nd, more than 20 wineries, breweries and cideries will be showcasing their best wines, brews and hard ciders at the 8th annual Kingston Wine & Brew Walk, sponsored by d Vine Wines, and presented by the Greater Kingston Chamber of Commerce. But that s not all---included are snacks/hors-d'oeuvres and great music to help you sip-and-savor your way through 12 different downtown locations. It all starts at the Port of Kingston OR the Kingston Food Market parking lot on June 2nd, where you pick up your glass, 10 taster tickets, and your walking map to start your tasting tour. This event sells out every year so buy your tickets EARLY. Early-bird pricing is $25 per person. Prices go up as the event date nears. Your tickets will be mailed to you if ordered online by May 25, 2018. Please bring your event ticket and I.D. to the Port of Kingston Tent OR the parking lot at Kingston Food Market on Saturday, June 2nd to pick up your wine glass, tasters tickets and walking map. Both locations open at 4:45pm. The tent will continue distribution of glasses until 7:30pm. The Food Market parking lot location will close at 6pm. All tasting venues are open from 5pm to 8pm. The Port of Kingston Tent and Cleo's Landing will stay open until 9pm. To buy tickets online now, click here. Appetizer Donations for the Wine Walk As one of the stops on the Wine Walk, the yacht club needs to provide appetizers. Anyone who is willing to contribute can bring their food items to the club either Friday night, June 1st between 6-9pm, or after 4:30pm on June 2nd. Prepared foods may be assembled at home, but anything cooked must be made in a commercial kitchen. Bell Harbor Cruise May 25th-28th Calling All Boaters, Non-Boaters, Baseball Fans, Foodies, City Explorers, Fun Seekers! The Bell Harbor Memorial Day cruise is coming up May 25th through 28th. We have lots of activities planned to keep you busy and enough downtime to keep you relaxed. Let David Kutz (davidkutz@aol.com) know if you want to attend the Mariner game against Cincinnati on Sunday afternoon and reserve your boat slip if you plan to boat over. Please email David if you want him to purchase tickets for you. Boaters will need to call Bell Harbor Marina no later than two weeks prior to the event to reserve a slip. This cruise is always a fun weekend for everyone. We also encourage non-boaters to come for any or all the events. Hotel rooms are available nearby or you can just ferry over for the day. Patriots Party June 16th (previously known as Pete's Party) 6-9pm at the Kingston Cove Yacht Club SAVE THE DATE! This party is a fundraiser for the Kingston 4th of July. There will be music, food, and an auction. All proceeds will fund the 4th of July activities. Stay tuned for more details. Club News We Need Hosts! As the summer months approach, we all look forward to BBQs on the club deck. We need some members to volunteer to host on a Friday night. All that it requires is getting the grill ready, and coordinating the food that people bring to share. Of course, if you want to do something special, that would be ok too. Contact us and let us know what day you can help out. Rita ritaoz@comcast.net Kim kimpage827@gmail.com The June General Meeting is Family Night Thursday, June 21st at 6pm By tradition, that means members are encouraged to bring their families to the meeting. And we'll be sure that it won't be so boring that even the kids and friends might enjoy it! The Club will provide a picnic dinner, with burgers, hot dogs, and all of the fixings and members won t have to bring anything (to eat, that is!) The twist this year is that we are going to ask you to help the less fortunate in our community. The Kingston Food Bank is in need of supplies...so as the Club feeds you, please bring non-perishable food so that we can feed others. Donations will be collected at the meeting and passed on to the Food Bank.
As has been done in the past, the Club is moving to an every other year party. This is a heads up for your own planning. Along with that, the Club will be available for By general consensus, New Year's Eve this year has been cancelled! Or rather, the KCYC New Year's Eve Party has been cancelled! It has been rescheduled for December 31, 2019! Do you know studies show that people who volunteer live longer? I don't know if that is actually true, but I know that you feel a whole lot better about life. Volunteering is a way to get connected and feel like you're a part of the club, rather than just a bystander. Everyone has busy lives, some busier than others, but there is always a little time to do something for someone else. KCYC needs its members to get involved, and it is actually a membership requirement. If you don't know what you can do, contact Jan Erickson, our Volunteer Coordinator, jkerickson@aol.com, 360-297-2990, or any Board member. The Social Committee always needs people to host or help on the club social events, so contact Kim Page, kimpage827@gmail.com, or Rita Osborn, ritaoz@comcast.net. Without you there are no volunteers, and without volunteers, there is no club. So if you want the club to thrive and grow, please help out.
Reports from the Board Comments from the Commodore Jerry Kirschner G - R - I - F - F This is just a quick note so you don t forget G R I F F G is for GROWTH In the April and in the May General Meetings, there were more inductions into KCYC. That makes 4 months in a row were we have inducted new members. First of all, welcome to those who are new to the Club. Secondly, for the old members, don t forget to reach out to make all feel at home! We also have applications in hand for 3 more people. Yes, we do have GROWTH! F is for FINANCIALS The focus this month is the treasurer s position. As has been stated recently, our current treasurer has resigned due to increased family and professional time constraints. After talking with a few qualified Club members who were not in a position to take on the treasurer s responsibilities, I volunteered to become interim treasurer until the current backlog and systems are upgraded. The Board has approved the hiring of a service (West Sound Bookkeeping) to prepare and send out the new dues invoices and to update our Quick Books system. As treasurer, I am reviewing unrecorded documents, updating the files, identifying and paying current bills and anticipating new expenses until the dues from members invoices start to arrive. The bottom line for the Club is that we are thin in operating cash because of the end of the dues cycle but are in a good financial position. Notes from the Vice Commodore Nancy Langwith Rental Business We are starting our Summer rental campaign focusing on social events and meetings. If you are thinking of having a party, contact Karen Viereck at KCYCrental@gmail.com. Remember that members pay only $200 any day, any time (except Friday nights and New Year s Eve). The club will be available for New Year s Eve this year at an appropriate rate!
Notes from the Rear Commodore Jack Lott May is nearly behind us, and summer is just around the corner. As the weather warms, be sure to bring your friends and family to the Club Friday nights...the deck is a perfect spot to enjoy the best of Kingston. Maybe it s Nancy s decor, or the younger members that have been joining us lately, but whatever the reason, Fridays have been lively and fun. Maybe you ll even see Cliff Clavin or Norm on a bar stool. A few Club members have said they would like to get their MAST license so they could volunteer behind the bar. Now is a good time to follow through on those thoughts. With many members cruising or on family vacations, we could use your help. And with the club again hosting the Beer Tent at the park for the 4th of July, we will need all members with MAST licenses to sign up to serve. We will get a signup form out at the next general meeting. Wine case sales are available for all members, with a special right now on Canoe Ridge Syrah, $14.99 per bottle including tax, or by the case (12 bottles) $139.00 including tax. Membership Report from the Secretary Robin Lott At the May General Meeting, we inducted two new members. Diane Nuñez was a past member who spent many year in the club. We are really happy to welcome her back. Sara Hatchell is relatively new to the Kingston area and is looking forward to meeting new people and getting involved in the community. She is hoping to soon retire from a very long career as a flight attendant. We have four new applicants who have just submitted their applications. All of them have already completed their application requirements by attending a social function and a general meeting. Let me introduce them to you: Fred Havellana is sponsored by Art Hammon. He has lived in Kingston for 2 1/2 years after living previously in Edmonds. His parents retired in Hansville 10 years ago, and Fred fell in love with the area. He is a huge fan of boating and presently has a 40ft. Corsair. Fred owns a construction company with his best friend, Christine. Christine Dunn has lived in Kingston for about 9 years, originally from San Diego. She grew up saiing with her dad and has always had a passion for boating. She is a bartender at the Ale House, and owns a general contracting company with her "future" husband, Fred. Cheryl Jester lives in Edmonds, but works in Silverdale, which means she has traveled t hrough Kingston twice a week for four years. She started hanging out at the Ale House, and since meeting Art, Kingston has become her second home. She has always been around boats and loves being out on the water. She is looking forward to becoming part of the KCYC community. Bob (Robert) Doyle is joining his partner, Jeanice Christian, as members in the club. He has been involved in boating for 50 years, and owned 13 previous boats, all sailboats, on the west coast, east coast, and in the Carribean. He works doing sailboat rigging, and enjoys music and dancing. He would like to volunteer to teach man overboard recovery at the club.
Recent Club Events A Thank You Note from Nancy Langwith, Spouse of the Commodore The Ladies Luncheon was a smashing success, thanks to all the women who attended, and especially all the women who worked to make it happen. A special thank you to Jani Bryant for singing; Nancy Martin for sharing her linens, dishes and knowledge; and Micki Monroe for her informative talk on French wines. A very special thank you to our waiters: Dan Martin, Rick Eveleth, Steve Young, Jerry Kischner, bartender Jack Lott, and ticket taker Robin Lott. A super special thank you to our French chefesses Nancy Martin, Gloria Young, Cheryl Graham, Rita Osborn and Kim Page. We had a wonderful time and sent $540 to the General Fund.
Seattle Opening Day 2018 We were honored to be invited again to the Queen City Yacht Club Dock as the only non-grand 14 yacht club on the dock for Seattle Opening Day! We had 7 boats rafted off a combination of the old guard and first timers, Jane and Stan Mack on the Jane Ann. As always, the hospitality was wonderful and the food and drink plentiful. Kingston Cove (Almost) Summer Fest Record numbers of people, somewhere between 2,200 5,000, arrived in Kingston on May 12th for the first Annual Kingston Cove (almost) Summer Fest hosted by KCYC, the Port and the Kingston Chamber. We had 15 boats on the Guest Dock for Opening Day and many kids We had seminars on crabbing and Geoducks in the clubhouse followed by Cheeseburgers in (almost) Paradise in the clubhouse and a dance in the street! Many thanks to the KCYC committee members: Ken and Sandi Dalgleish, Steve and Gloria Young, Jack and Robin Lott, Steve and Kim Page, Cheryl Graham, Nancy Martin, and Megan House. Thanks also to our amazing bartenders, Denise and Matt, who helped us break a club record for bar sales at a single event. And Joseph and Craig, who grilled 133 burgers! We more than doubled attendance and returned funds to the KCYC General Fund! An Article from Tom Davies I have been in many places, but I've never been in Kahoots. Apparently you can't go alone. You have to be in Kahoots with someone. I have also never been in Cognito, I hear no one recognizes you there. I have, however been in Sane. They don't have an airport, you have to be driven there. I have made several trips there, thanks to my children, friends, family and work. I would like to go to conclusions, but you have to jump and I'm not too much into physical activity any more. I have been in Doubt. That is a sad place to go and I try not to visit there too often. I have been in Flexible, but only when it was very important to stand firm. Sometimes I'm in Capable, and I go there more often as I'm getting older. One of my favorite places to be is in Suspense. It really gets the adrenalin flowing and pumps up the old heart! At my age I need all the stimuli I can get. I may have been in Continent but I don't know what country I was in. News from Sail Kingston Cove SUMMER FUN IS LEARNING TO SAIL ON THE COVE IN KINGSTON! ENROLL YOUR GRANDCHILDREN (AND CHILDREN) NOW! Summer is on the way, and learning to sail is a great summer activity for boys and girls. For kids from 8-17, the camps start every Monday through Friday, from 9:00am until 3:00 pm, commencing on June 25 through the end of August. Weekly cost for camp is $225.
