Ordination to the Order of Deacon, Mark Bortle Mark Bortle, a member of St. Cecilia Parish, will be ordained to the Order of the Diaconate by Archbishop Michael Jackels, S.T.D., Archbishop of Dubuque during a Mass of Ordination on Sat., July 18, 2015, beginning at 10:30AM at St. Raphael Cathedral in Dubuque. The Ordination Mass is open to the public and parishioners and friends of Mark and the other seven men to be ordained are most welcome to come and join in this joyous liturgy. A reception will follow the Ordination Mass. However, because of limited space, the reception is by invitation only, so if planning to attend, please make necessary arrangements. As pastor, I speak for all of us, in offering our sincerest congratulations and begging God s blessing on Mark as he begins this special service to our parish and the universal church, as well as offering our congratulations and best wishes to Mark s wife, Melissa, and their daughters Samantha and Alexandra as well as other members of Mark s family. On the weekend of July 25/26, Mark will assist me as the deacon at all the Masses as well as preach for the first time. Following all the masses that weekend there will be a public reception for Mark in the Social Hall. Please remember Mark and Melissa, Samantha and Alexandra and the other candidates, their wives and families in prayer. Thank you, Julie Ann Bovenmeyer. Effective June 30 th, Julie Ann Bovenmeyer who for the last four years served our parish as the Assistant Faith Formation Director working particularly in the area of elementary catechesis, resigned her position. STEPHEN MINISTRY A Great Way You Can Help a Hurting Friend Do you have a friend, neighbor, coworker, or relative who is going through a difficult time? Here's a great way you can help them - tell them about our Stephen Ministry! Stephen Ministers are members of St. Cecilia & St. Thomas who have received special training to provide high-quality, confidential, one-to-one, Christian care to people who are grieving the loss of a loved one, coping with a cancer diagnosis, going through a divorce or separation, battling a chronic illness (or caring for a spouse or parent who is terminally ill), experiencing a great deal of stress, facing the loss of a job - or encountering any of countless other life challenges. HOSPITAL VISITS For those of you who have family or friends in the hospital, please remember that privacy laws prevent hospitals from freely distributing or making available information on patients without their consent. If you are going to be hospitalized for more than just a same day procedure, PLEASE NOTIFY THE PARISH. so that we can arrange a visit to you if you wish. THE HOSPITAL WILL NOT AUTOMATICALLY DO THIS FOR YOU. May this church be your second home. May those you love be near you in thought and prayer. Even though we may not get to know you, We pray that you will be comfortable and happy as if you were in your own church home. May whatever need brought you our way find a hearing by God. When you leave, may your journey be safe. We pray you God s peace. STEWARDSHIP MOMENT The Letter to the Ephesians relates to us that God, the Father, has established a divine plan to bring all of creation to Christ and that He has blessed us with the divine gifts to help implement that plan. Christian stewards know what their gifts are and remain committed to using them in the service of the Lord. Do we know what our gifts are? Do we believe that God has given us these gifts? Are we committed to using our gifts to serve the Lord? STEWARDSHIP: Today s readings are about being chosen and sent. The prophet Amos was chosen by the Lord and sent to use his talents for the people of God. The Gospel recounts the story of the sending of the twelve. In the second reading, St. Paul reminds us that we, too, are chosen. For what have I been chosen? To whom have I been sent? PLANNED GIVING There is no greater satisfaction than knowing that your personal property and accumulated wealth will be shared exactly as you personally desire. Whether your estate is large or small, you should make certain it will be properly distributed to those to whom you wish it to go. If you wish to remember St. Cecilia Parish, this can be done through careful preparation of your will. Please contact Frank Oppold 290-1163. RCIA The mission of the Church is to Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. (Mt.28:19) As members of the Church we are called to make disciples. How are we doing that? One important way in which we can help to make disciples is to share our faith with others. Sometimes we meet people who appear to be interested in the Catholic Church; but, we fail to ask/invite them to take a closer look. Let us be challenged by this Mission of the Church and invite someone we know to participate in the RCIA Inquiry phase of this process. And, in case you are not aware, the RCIA process receives interested persons at any time during the year. So, if you are an adult, or know of an adult or child over the age of 7 years interested in becoming a Catholic and celebrating the sacraments of Baptism or Confirmation and First Communion, please contact Jo Anne Dalhoff at RCIA@stceciliaparish.org or call the parish office at 515-233-3092.
