WORD OF THE LORD THIS WEEK S ACTIVITIES THE MASTER STORYTELLER In today s Gospel, Jesus is presented to us as the master storyteller. He loved to use parables as a tool for comparing one thing to something else. In most of his parables, Jesus revealed who God is by comparing God s essence or ac ons with something familiar to his listeners. In the parable of the mustard seed, Jesus proclaims a marvelous and irrefutable truth. His small band of disciples, as insignificant as they may have felt, would one day produce a mighty kingdom whose growth was ini ated by God. The seeds of this kingdom were planted by God and it is God who will harvest the fruit brought forth from those seeds. The extent of the growth of God s kingdom cannot be predicted. The overwhelming response to our first Stuf-A-Truk was beyond all expecta ons! The generosity of so many parishioners who par cipated and filled our trucks Mass a er Mass was exci ng to be a part of. Knowing that all your dona ons were delivered to very grateful, humble, people who work with the less fortunate every day. The surprise on their faces when they saw bag a er bag of food, toiletries, snacks and drinks for the children they serve, brought tears to their eyes. Special thanks must go out to the team that helped pull this all together. George Oretga, Phil Barber, Mark Layel..but without Fr. Tully s vision of this idea none of this would have happened, thank you Father! Mark Layel & Saint Paul 8 th graders stapled grocery lists to bag a er bag almost 800 of them! John Moreno s son Christopher along with Aidan & Kayleigh McClosky worked relessly to help wherever they were needed. God bless our youth that helped fill an important need. Thank you to Fr. Tully, John Moreno, David Clark and Tim & Stephen Edwards who graciously donated their trucks, gas & me for the weekend and delivered food on Monday. Thank you to the parishioners who called to let us know we were welcome to use their vehicles to deliver:} When the rains came during Saturday night Mass, ANGELS fell from the sky to help and returned for the masses on Sunday. SAINT OF THE WEEK SAINT PAULINUS OF NOLA Anyone who is praised in the le ers of six or seven saints undoubtedly must be of extraordinary character. Such a person was Paulinus of Nola, correspondent and friend of Saints Augus ne, Jerome, Gregory the Great, & Ambrose. Born near Bordeaux, he was the son of wealthy parents. Paulinus became a dis nguished lawyer, holding several public offices in the Roman Empire. With his Spanish wife, Therasia, he re red at an early age to a life of cultured leisure. A er many childless years, they had a son who died a week a er birth. This was the beginning of a life of great austerity and charity for Paulinus and Therasia, giving away most of their Spanish property. Paulinus was rather unexpectedly ordained a priest at Christmas by the bishop of Barcelona. He and his wife then moved to Nola, near Naples. He had a great love for Saint Felix of Nola, and spent much effort in promo ng devo on to this saint. Paulinus gave away most of his remaining property to the consterna on of his rela ves and con nued his work for the poor. By popular demand he was made bishop of Nola and guided that diocese for 21 years. Paulinus last years were saddened by the invasion of the Huns. Among his few wri ngs is the earliest extant Chris an wedding song. June 17, 2018 My name is Adam Gale. I m a seminarian for the Diocese of Raleigh and I recently completed my first year at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Wynnewood, PA. I m from the parish of St. Catherine of Siena in Wake Forest, NC. Seven years ago, I moved to North Carolina from Long Island, NY a er gradua ng from the State University of New York at Oneonta with a Bachelor of Science degree in Childhood Educa on. Before entering the seminary last year, I taught special educa on students for five years in the Wake County public schools. Some of my hobbies are hiking, drawing, reading history books, and watching Star Wars movies. Thank you, Fr. Tully and everyone here at St. Paul s for welcoming me to the parish. I look forward to serving here this summer! My name is John Lewis and I was born on July 11, 1993 in Nassau County, New York. I would con nue to live in Bellmore, New York for the first seven years of my life before my family would move to Wilmington, North Carolina. I have lived there ever since and am the oldest of seven children, so never a dull moment in our household. Upon gradua ng from high school in 2011 I spent two years in community college, during which I spent a summer in Washington D.C. interning in the capitol. A erwards I a ended UNCW where I received my bachelor s degree in History. During my me at UNCW I became reinvigorated with my faith and would go on to be increasingly involved at the Catholic Campus ministry. I would carry this on to my home parish at St Marks and helped create a young adult ministry there. Alongside being involved with my faith I am a mega movie fan and love to talk about different films. I also enjoy paddleboarding and longboard skateboarding. There s also the standard: listening to music and seeing beau ful sites, but I think these apply to almost everyone. I enjoy a good conversa on, and maybe carry it on longer than it should. I m looking forward to my summer here at St Paul s and can t wait to help and meet as many people as I can. My name is Ross Williams, and I am a Second Year seminarian at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Philadelphia for the Diocese of Raleigh. I was born in Wisconsin and lived briefly in Belgium before moving to Cary, NC, where I grew up. Last year, before entering seminary, I graduated from NC State with a degree in Computer Engineering. My hobbies are reading and programming, and I am currently learning to play the Organ. I hope you all have a wonderful summer, and I am looking forward to mee ng you all. On behalf of the whole Parish, I commend Father Michael Schuetz to your prayers. We wish him the very best in all the new undertakings at Our Lady of Lourdes parish in Raleigh. He has dis nguished himself in his direct and amiable manner and his though ul and prac cal homilies. He has made a good impression on the ac ve youth of our church family.
