Kenilworth Church PC(USA) Faith, Love, Action October, 2015 We Appreciate Our Pastor e are blessed to have Rev. W Dr. Allen P. Smith as our Pastor since 2009. Allen was born in Richmond, Virginia and grew up in High Point, North Carolina. He holds a BA in Humanities from Warren Wilson College, a MDiv from Yale University and a PhD in Literature and Theology from the University of Glasgow in Scotland, United Kingdom. Allen has worked as a research associate with the University of Glasgow and preached while living in Scotland. He was ordained in February, 2009 by the WNC Presbytery and officially became our Pastor on February 15, 2009. Allen is entering his seventh year of ministry at Kenilworth Presbyterian Church. As a token of our collective appreciation for Allen being our Pastor, the congregation was invited to share notes of appreciation with the editor for this newsletter. Editor Note: All notes will be given to Allen in their entirety. The following are some excerpts. Thanks for sharing. It is such a blessing to have you as our minister! I especially appreciate your availability in times of crisis or sorrow; the simple and meaningful way that communion is served; your thoughtful and interesting sermons and always end the service with the reassuring message that God loves you ; and, last but certainly not least, your jolly good sense of humor. I hope we will be blessed with your presence for many more years to come. - Shirley Mathis You are a very welcoming person with a great sense of humor. - Mitzi Shamble I appreciate your quiet, conversational tone and the selfdeprecating humor you use to punctuate and accentuate your fervent, often impassioned, messages. - Nancy Dillingham We know that, but by your willingness to be vulnerable, you allow us to feel safe and offer that safety to each other. - The Warrens Your sermons are easy to relate to because they are so often shared from your own life experiences. - Mike Cox Thank you for guiding me to Christ with the simple phrase, God loves you. I appreciate your knowledge in showing me how the lessons of the Gospel apply to our lives. - Marsha Cox Thanks for being my spiritual leader and especially for being my very good friend! - Sally Martin You give of yourselves (Allen and Mary) not just to God, but to church, community and individuals in need. We love you. - Mary and Jason Allen has the unique ability to meet us where we are, bring out the best in us, and encourage us to share our talents with the congregation. It is a privilege to work and lead worship with him. - Edna Banes Such a bright, funny, insightful, self-deprecating, and well educated man is a rare and wonderful thing to have in our church. I am very grateful! - Katherine Jowers You really rock! - The Taylors And, YOU are awesome! - Linda
