PRELUDE GATHERING Jesu, Joy Of Man s Desiring * PROCESSIONAL Dedication (Tune: Azmon) C. Eugene Sill, 1999 Into the presence of our Christ We come to sing His praise His love so free, yet so high priced We ve come our thanks to raise. Great joy and peace will here be found Hot tears will sometimes flow Both laughs and cries will echo round And love and hope will grow. The past and future merge as now Gone voices meld with ours To bless anew and re-endow This place with godly powers. So, bless your people as we pray And dedicate this place, A meeting house on each Lord s day For every class and race. May hurts be healed and tears be dried; May peace and love be fed. May Christ be praised, His Way be tried As our eternal head. WELCOME Jamie Vaughn * CALL TO WORSHIP ONE: Lord, you have been our refuge ALL: from one generation to another. ONE: Before the mountains were brought forth, or the land and the sea were born, ALL: from age to age you are God. ONE: Satisfy us by your loving-kindness in the morning, ALL: so we shall rejoice and be glad all the days of our life. ONE: May the graciousness of the Lord our God be upon us, ALL: and prosper the work of our hands

* HYMN #84 O God, Our Help In Ages Past 1 Our God, our help in ages past, 4 A thousand ages in your sight our hope for years to come, are like an evening gone, our shelter from the stormy blast, short as the watch that ends the night and our eternal home. before the rising sun. 2 Under the shadow of your throne 5 Time, like an ever-rolling stream, your saints have dwelt secure; bears all of us away; sufficient is your arm alone, we fly, forgotten, as a dream and our defense is sure. dies at the opening day. 3 Before the hills in order stood 6 Our God, our help in ages past, or earth received her frame, our hope for years to come, from everlasting you are God, be now our guide while life shall last, to endless years the same. and our eternal home! * PRAYER OF INVOCATION (unison) Rev. Will Norman Receive our gratitude, Holy God, for the years through which you have led us, and open us to the future you promise. In the years that lie ahead, grant us your encouragement in the work of ministry, your consolation in our defeats, and your challenge to our complacency. Give us such trust in your abiding Holy Spirit, that we may find joy and peace in our common life, strength and courage to live in the world for your reign, and hope in the gospel of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. * GLORIA PATRI Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, And to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning is now, and ever shall be, World without end. Amen. Amen.

WORD CHILDREN S CHOIR All Around the World ANTHEM You Raised Me Up Chancel Choir PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION OLD TESTAMENT READING: 2 Samuel 7:18-29 Mike Hill PSALM READING: Rev. Davina Jones 1 How lovely is your dwelling place, O God of hosts! 2 My soul longs, indeed it faints for the courts of God; my heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God. 3 Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, at your altars, O God of hosts, my Ruler and my God. R 4 Happy are those who live in your house, ever singing your praise. 5 Happy are those whose strength is in you

in whose heart are the highways to Zion. 6 As they go through the valley of Baca they make it a place of springs; the early rain also covers it with pools. 7 They go from strength to strength; the God of gods will be seen in Zion. R 8 O Sovereign God of hosts, hear my prayer, give ear, O God of Jacob! 9 Behold our shield, O God; look on the face of your anointed. 10 For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of God than live in the tents of wickedness. 11 For the Sovereign God is a sun and shield; God bestows favor and honor. No good thing does God withhold from those who walk uprightly. 12 O God of hosts, happy is everyone who trusts in you. R EPISTLE READING: 1 Corinthians 3:9-17 Rev. Bill Schroeder * GOSPEL READING: Matthew 7:24-29 Rev. Will Norman SERMON Standing on the Promise, Building on the Rock

* HYMN #544 The Church s One Foundation 1 The church s one foundation is Jesus Christ, her Lord; she is his new creation by water and the Word. From heaven he came and sought her to be his holy bride; with his own blood he bought her, and for her life he died. 2 Elect from every nation, yet one o er all the earth, her charter of salvation: one Lord, one faith, one birth; one holy name she blesses, partakes one holy food, and to one hope she presses with every grace endued. 3 Though with a scornful wonder we see her sore oppressed, by schisms rent asunder, by heresies distressed: yet saints their watch are keeping, their cry goes up, How long? and soon the night of weeping shall be the morn of song. 4 Mid toil and tribulation, and tumult of her war, she waits the consummation of peace forevermore, till with the vision glorious her longing eyes are blest, and the great Church victorious shall be the Church at rest. 5 Yet she on earth hath union with God, the Three in One, and mystic sweet communion with those whose rest is won: O happy ones and holy! Lord, give us grace that we, like them, the meek and lowly, on high may dwell with thee. * AFFIRMATION OF FAITH UCC Statement of Faith Rev. Diane Weible We believe in you, O God, Eternal Spirit, God of our Savior Jesus Christ and our God, and to your deeds we testify: You call the worlds into being, create persons in your own image, and set before each one the ways of life and death. You seek in holy love to save all people from aimlessness and sin. You judge people and nations by your righteous will declared through prophets and apostles. In Jesus Christ, the man of Nazareth, our crucified and risen Savior, you have come to us and shared our common lot, conquering sin and death and reconciling the world to yourself.

You bestow upon us your Holy Spirit, creating and renewing the church of Jesus Christ, binding in covenant faithful people of all ages, tongues, and races. You call us into your church to accept the cost and joy of discipleship, to be your servants in the service of others, to proclaim the gospel to all the world and resist the powers of evil, to share in Christ's baptism and eat at his table, to join him in his passion and victory. You promise to all who trust you forgiveness of sins and fullness of grace, courage in the struggle for justice and peace, your presence in trial and rejoicing, and eternal life in your realm which has no end. Blessing and honor, glory and power be unto you. Amen. THANKSGIVING INVITATION TO THE OFFERING Rev. Bill Schroeder OFFERTORY Be Exalted, O God Chancel Choir * DOXOLOGY Praise God from whom all blessings flow Praise God all creatures here below Praise God above ye heavenly hosts Praise Father, Son & Holy Ghost. Amen INVITATION AND GREAT PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise. Rev. Will Norman

We give you thanks, O Lord of hosts, For the sake of the One who died, rose again, and ascended on high, we sing our praises to you: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might Heaven and earth are full of your glory Hosanna in the highest Holy are you, Lord God of hosts, We offer these prayers in Jesus name, who taught us to pray, saying, Our Father who art in heaven: hallowed be thy name Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, For thine is the kingdom and power and the glory forever. Amen. SENDING * HYMN #507 A Mighty Fortress Is Our God 1 A mighty fortress is our God, 3 And though this world, a bulwark never failing; with devils filled, our helper he, amid the flood should threaten to undo us, of mortal ills prevailing. we will not fear, for God hath willed For still our ancient foe his truth to triumph through us. doth seek to work us woe; The Prince of Darkness grim, his craft and power are great, we tremble not for him; and, armed with cruel hate, his rage we can endure, on earth is not his equal. for lo, his doom is sure; 2 Did we in our own strength confide, one little word shall fell him. our striving would be losing, 4 That word above all earthly powers were not the right man on our side, no thanks to them, abideth; the man of God's own choosing. the Spirit and the gifts are ours Dost ask who that may be? thro him who with us sideth. Christ Jesus, it is he; Let goods and kindred go, Lord Sabaoth his name, this mortal life also; from age to age the same, the body they may kill: and he must win the battle. God's truth abideth still; his kingdom is forever.
