Committed to His Will, His Way, and His Word The Year of Determination November 24, 2013 Our Vision Statement "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because He has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." Luke 4:18-19 (NKJ) It is the vision of Mt. Olive to be a church that is intentional in its efforts to identify and meet the needs of broken, hurt and oppressed people in the greater Glen Allen area through the message and ministry of Jesus Christ. Galatians 6:9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. From the Pastor's Desk In John 10:10 Jesus says that He has come that we might have life and that we might have it more abundantly. One of the ways we experience the abundant life Jesus offers is by studying the Word of God. I encourage you to attend Church School and Bible Study as we live out the core value of intentional faith development. It's a matter of life and life more abundantly. MOBC FAITH DEVELOPMENT!! KINGDOMTIDE August 26 November 30, 2013 (The Pulpit attire is Green) DAILY BIBLE READINGS 2 We are in the season of KINGDOMTIDE, the color of KINGDOMTIDE is GREEN. The color GREEN symbolizes growth. The cloths on the Communion table and podium are changed to coincide with each season of the Christian calendar. KINGDOMTIDE runs from August 26 until Advent. KINGDOMTIDE is the newest of the seasons, dating no farther back than the late 1930 s. KINGDOMTIDE gives place for due attention to the eternal presence of Christ and His Kingship with the parallel emphasis upon our stewardship. Its emphasis on the kingship of Christ and His kingdom, challenges us in our daily lives and in every area of our existence. General Theme For This Quarter: FIRST THINGS God s creative work is seen throughout the stories found in Genesis and Exodus. The quarter begins with the creation of the world and of human beings, explores the creation of a nation that began with God s promises to Abraham and Sarah and their heirs, and then studies the stories of the Hebrew people on their journey out of captivity towards freedom. We hope that you will join us as we are focusing on: UNIT #3 FIRST FREEDOM This is a four-lesson unit that explores the power of God to save Israel from oppression. The first and second lessons look at how God prepares and actually delivers Israel from bondage. Lessons three and four develop the story of Israel s beginning as a freed nation. THIS WEEK S LESSON: BEGINNING OF THE TABERNACLE Exodus 14:21-30 After the Israelites left Egypt, they felt insecure and afraid as they traveled to the Promised Land. God commanded Moses and the people to build the tabernacle, so they would always feel God s presence and guidance. NEXT WEEK S LESSON: JESUS BIRTH FORETOLD Luke 1:26-40 People are always amazed and often perplexed when unexpected things happen in their lives. Mary responded at first with surprise and then with dedication to the angel s announcement about the birth of her baby. Sermon Highlights: November 17, 2013 8:00 AM 11:00 AM Rev. Janice Corbett Rev. Dru Roane Title: Everyday Is a Day of Thanksgiving Determined to Demonstrate Text: Psalm 92:1-2 Radical Hospitality Luke 14:8-14 Main Idea: We don t have to wait until We demonstrate radical hospitality Thanksgiving Day. Don t delay that decision! We encourage you to embrace God s love today and receive the salvation that only Jesus Christ gives. Here are five simple steps you can take to find assurance of salvation. 1. Recognize your need. The Bible tell us that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Rom. 3:23) All of us are sinners, and we must admit our need 2. for a Savior. 3. Repent of your sins. Our sins create a wall that separates us from God. By confessing our sins and turning from them, you will find forgiveness. The Bible promises: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). 4. Believe in Jesus. God sent His only Son to die so that He could pay for all our sins. Put your faith in Him and believe in His power to save you. The Bible says, For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:16). 5. Receive His salvation. God has given us a great gift in His Son, but we must receive His gift. Thank Him for loving and forgiving you, and ask Him to live in your heart. His promise to us is clear: But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God (John 1:12). 5. Confess your faith. The Bible assures us: If you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Rom. 10:9). You have been born again and are now part of God s family. Tell someone else what Jesus has done in your life!
