Prelude Prelude in A Minor Guilmant Call to Worship based on 1 Kings 8, Ephesians 6 Holy One of mystery and power, there is no God like you in heaven above or on earth below. Fill our lives with your glory as you filled the temple with cloud when Solomon first brought the ark into your holy dwelling place. Give us the strength and the power to withstand the forces of evil in our lives and in our world. Let us worship God. Hymn 403 Open Now Thy Gates of Beauty Unser Herrscher Prayer of Confession O Lord, you alone know how often we have sinned in wandering from your ways, in wasting your gifts, in forgetting your love. Have mercy on us, O Lord, for we are ashamed and sorry for all we have done to displease you. Forgive our sins, and help us to live in your light and walk in your ways, for the sake of Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen. Assurance of Pardon Friends, believe the good news of the Gospel! In Jesus Christ we are forgiven! The Gloria Patri Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. A - Comments for Contemplation copyright 2010 by Russell Farnell used by permission Spiritual Warfare Ephesians 6:10 20, Luke 13:10 17 en. ors; vil: men. 1. In other words, as we walk in the Spirit of Christ and lean upon the power of the Holy Spirit, we need not fear the influence of the evil one; because the power of Christ within us is than any power of the evil one. 2. There are two equal and opposite errors into which [we humans] can fall about the devils. One is to disbelieve in their existence. The other is to believe, and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in them. They themselves are equally pleased by both errors and hail a materialist or a with the same delight. [C.S. Lewis] 3. Though we say there is an evil one, we operate out of the scientific worldview that asserts that all problems have a natural cause and a natural solution. The truth is that transformation and change, the dislodging of sin and evil from our lives, is an act of the Holy Spirit displacing and the powers of evil and sin. [Greg Ogden] 4. C.S. Lewis says it agrees with the plain sense of Scripture, the tradition of Christendom, and the beliefs of most people at most times. And it conflicts with nothing that any of the has shown to be true. 5. The Apostle Paul asserts without embarrassment that behind the human face of sin, brokenness and evil are the unseen spiritual powers of darkness. He says our struggle is not against blood and flesh meaning simply human enemies, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 6. It is the same power that raised Jesus from the dead, when the powers of darkness thought that the cross was a for them. But they were wrong. 4

If you would like to sign up to provide a floral arrangement, there are two flower charts: one outside the Chapel and one outside the southern entrance to the Sanctuary. Flowers are placed first in the Chapel for early service and then moved to the Sanctuary for all to enjoy. Then you may take all or part of them home, or request they be distributed by the Congregational Care Team. The standard cost is $50.00 per arrangement. Thank you!
