Thanks to all of our great bakers, we had a lot of selections and sold everything!! All the money we raised we gave in Memory of Mary Harris. We sure have missed her all year, especially at Bake Sale time! Mary, affectionately known as Mary, Sr., was a former District Officer of United Methodist Women as well President of our local unit. She was one of the women recognized by the Orlando District United Methodist Women for their commitment to being in Mission. An excerpt from the song written and performed by Mabel Jones in honor and recognition of their commitment to Mission is: We re in mission to please our God Vowing never to stop until we see it through Right from the start to the finish We re about our Father s business. The word of God is what we hear and do. All that we do is in Jesus name Our desire is to please him--not fortune or fame We meet, greet, help and give From day to day that s how we live And it s all because, it s all because We re in mission to please our God

United Methodist Women of FUMC, Clermont, Called to Action! Remember February s Call to Prayer and Self Denial Program from the 2016-17 United Methodist Women Program Book? To refresh your memory the focus was on maternal and child health. Our members were aghast to learn that girls in many countries could not attend school during their period because they had no protection (i.e. sanitary pads) for blood flow. Do the math on number of days NOT in school if we are talking about 10 months of school at 6-7 days of absences/month. And, of course, in some countries girls do not even have the privilege of attending school. We also learned of the devastating effects on mothers and infants, when pregnant women had no access to maternal care. Opening our purses to support the efforts of United Methodist Women to help women, infants and girls to improve their health and educational needs was a NO-brainer! But we also felt a need to reach out to our community. From lack of personal hygiene needs, our thoughts gravitated to our local school clinics. Were there unmet needs we might be able to provide? We connected to South Lake Schools' liaison for Clinic Representatives to learn if there were needs that we might provide to promote good personal hygiene. An e-mail was sent out to the clinic reps asking them to send in a Wish List of needs. From Social Action Coordinator, Noelene McCall and Pam Anders in September each circle was given specific schools with their Wish Lists attached. Circles were to purchase items listed, then bag at their October meetings, ready for delivery to their assigned schools. On those Wish Lists were: sanitary pads, deodorant, combs, lice combs, hair brushes, toothbrushes/toothpaste, hair elastics, hair clips, shampoo, baby wipes, powder, soap, boy's & girl's underwear (elem.) See photos of bags prepared for delivery by each of our three circles, left to right, Morning Joy, Lunch Bunch and Daughters of Lydia. This was a small but caring and compassionate way we could be the hands of our Lord and Savior. TO ALL THE TREASURERS FOR 2018: DO NOT SEND YOUR REMITTANCE FORMS TO THE CONFERENCE! Send them to: Mary Ann Murray, Treasurer East Central District 2936 Golden Birch Lane Longwood, FL 32750 Phone 407-321-0706 This includes all orders for cards, SMR pins and anything else you may need. Blessings, Mary Ann Murray maryann2936@aol.com
