(Legend: A/: All; P/: Priest or Officiant; D:/ Deacon; C:/ Cantor.) Entrance Bows (The Priest leads all into the opening Entrance Bows) P:/ Namo Tassa Bhagavato, Arahato Samma, Sambudhassa. (3X) Opening Offering (A small offering table with offerings of incense, flowers, water, fruit, etc. is on the North Side of the Temple; each offering is passed around, and formally offered by the priest, along with the incense) P:/ In gratitude, we offer this incense to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. May it be as fragrant as the earth herself, reflecting our careful efforts, our whole-hearted awareness and the fruit of understanding, slowly ripening. May we and all beings be true companions of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. May be awaken from our forgetfulness, and realize our true home. (The priest censes all of the offerings, dedicating each one separately, while all sing) A:/ The fragrance of this incense, invites the awakened mind to be truly present with us now. The fragrance of this incense,

fills this, our practice center, protects and guards our minds from all wrong thinking. The fragrance of this incense collects us and unites us. Precepts, concentration and insight, we offer for all that is. Namo Bodhisattvebhyah. Namo Mahasattvebhyah. (Bow, Bell). Praise to the Buddha P:/ O Blessed One, Shakyamuni Buddha, Precious treasury of compassion, Bestower of supreme inner peace, You, who love all beings without exception, Are the source of happiness and goodness; And you guide us to the liberating path. Your body is a wishfulfilling jewel, Your speech is supreme, purifying nectar, And your mind is refuge for all living beings. With folded hands I turn to you, Supreme unchanging friend, I request from the depths of my heart: Please give me the light of your wisdom

To dispel the darkness of my mind And to heal my mental continuum. Please nourish me with your goodness, That I in turn may nourish all beings With an unceasing banquet of delight. Through your compassionate intention, Your blessings and virtuous deeds, And my strong wish to rely upon you, May all suffering quickly cease And all happiness and joy be fulfilled; And may holy Dharma flourish for evermore. Avalokiteshvara Sadhana Going for refuge A:/ I am all sentient beings, until we achieve enlightenment, go for refuge to Buddha, Dharma and Sangha. (3X) Generating Bodhichitta A:/ Through the virtues I collect by giving and other perfections, May I become a Buddha for the benefit of all. (3X)

The Odes C:/ Her elegant sash does flutter as she past Her silken robe as white as holy light, Her golden belt does bless as it melts All imperfections of mind and sight. Pearls and jade do fringe her face Dark dragon s hair enfurled like a vase. Her brows like the moon, eyes like the stars Ruby beams of love stream from her gaze. Within her palms she does hold a hollow vase In which are held the willow branch. From these all beings does she bedew The Healing Waters of Loving Grace. Beholding all our woes, Trampling all our foes. From her sacred cave of savage winds. Hearing all with heart so true, With no regard for worth or due.

A love that is so fair, without limit everywhere. Tis no wonder, then we love her too. Antiphons A:/ May I quickly know all Dharmas; A:/ May I soon obtain the Wisdom Eye; A:/ May I quickly ferry all living beings (to the shore of liberation); A:/ May I soon obtain virtuous skillful means (to enlighten various living beings); A:/ May I quickly board the Prajna Boat; A:/ May I soon transcend the ocean of suffering; A:/ May I quickly achieve precepts, Samadhi and the Way;

A:/ May I soon ascend the mountain of Nirvana; A:/ May I quickly dwell in the house of nonaction; A:/ May I soon unite with the Dharma-Nature Body. P: or D:/ If I go towards the mountain of knives, A:/ the mountain of knives of itself breaks up; P: or D:/ If I go towards the boiling oil, A:/ the boiling oil of itself dries up; P: or D:/ If I go towards the hells, A:/ the hells of themselves disappear; P: or D:/ If I go towards the hungry ghosts, A:/ the hungry ghosts of themselves become full. P: or D:/ If I go towards the Asuras, A:/ their evil thoughts of themselves are tamed. P: or D:/ If I go towards the animals, A:/ they themselves attain great wisdom

Invocation P:/ or D:/ Mother of Love and Compassion Bestow your wisdom upon me. Help me see humanity through your eyes Help me to master thy love and compassion. Hold me near to your heart of gold. The Meditation and Mantra Practice C:/, D:/ or P:/ Namo Quan Shih Yin Pusa. (one time, audibly, with everyone else repeating silently. All repeat the mantra 108 times, with malas). C:/, D:/ or P:/ Namo Quan Shih Yin Pusa. (One time, audibly, followed by AHHHHHHH ) A:/ AHHHHHHHhhhhhhhh.. (Bell, Bow) (Silent Meditation) (Bell, Bow) The Prajnaparamita Sutra (heart) D:/ or P:/ Wisdom, Sangha be attentive. The Dharma, imcomparably profound and infinitely subtle, is rarely encountered, even in millions of ages. Now we see it, hear it, receive and maintain it. May we completely realize the Tathagata s true meaning. Wisdom. The Mahaprajnaparamita!

The Bodhisattva Avalokita, while moving in the deep course of perfect understanding, shed light upon the Five Skandhas and found them equally empty. After this penetration, he overcame ill-being. (bell) Listen, Sariputra, form is emptiness and emptiness is form. Form is not other than emptiness, emptiness is not other than form. The same is true for feelings, perceptions, mental formations and consciousness. (Bell) Listen, Sariputra, all dharmas are marked with emptiness. They are neither produced nor destroyed, neither defiled nor immaculate, neither increasing nor decreasing. Therefore in emptiness there is neither form, nor feelings, nor perceptions, nor mental formations, nor consciousness. No eye, or ear, or nose, or tongue, or body or mind. No form, no sound, no smell, no taste, no touch, no object of mind. No realms of elements (from eyes to minds consciousness), no interdependent origins and no extinction of them (from ignorance to death and decay). No ill-being, no cause of ill-being, no end of ill-being, and no path. No understanding, and no attainment. (Bell). Because there is no attainment, the Bodhisattvas, grounded in Perfect Understanding, find no obstacles for their minds. Having no obstacles, they overcome fear, liberating themselves forever from illusion, realizing perfect Nirvana. All Buddhas of the past, present and future, thanks to this Perfect Understanding, arrive at full, right, and universal enlightenment. (Bell).

Therefore one should know that Perfect Understanding is the highest mantra, the unequalled mantra, the destroyer of illbeing, the incorruptible truth. A mantra of Prajaparamita should therefore be proclaimed: A:/ Gate, gate, paragate parasamgate Bodhi svaha. (3x with bells) D:/ or P:/ Thus have I heard! A:/ Namo Buddhaya! (Bell, Bow) At one with all Beings D:/ Being one with the Buddha. A:/ With all sentient beings, raise the Bodhi mind. Let the Supreme Way be realized. D:/ Being one with the Dharma. A:/ With all sentient beings, penetrat all sutras. Let wisdom be like the oceans. D:/ Being one with the Sangha. A:/ With all sentient beings, lead the people. Let harmony pervade throughout all places.

D:/ May the merits of maintaining the Precepts permeate the Dharma worlds. A:/ And may our vows to accomplish the Buddha Way be realized together. D:/ All Buddhas throughout space and time, all Bodhisattva Mahasattvas. A:/ Maha Prajna Paramita. Sharing and Dedication of Merit A:/ Reciting the sutras, practicing the way of awareness, gives rise to benefits without limit. We vow to share the fruits with all beings. We vow to offer tribute to parents, friends and numerous beings who give guidance and support along the way. (Bell, Bow) Departing Blessing (All stand, hands held in Gassho) P:/ Shikin haramitsu dai komyo A:/ Sentient Beings are numberless; we vow to save them all. Passions are endless; we vow to extinguish them all. The

teachings are infinite; we vow to learn them all. The Buddha Way is inconceivable; we vow to attain it. (Bow/Bell 3x) P:/ The Orations have ended; go forth in peace to love and serve all beings. A:/ Om, Om, Om, Shanti, Shanti, Shanti.
