THE PASSION of RESURRECTION SUNDAY 2015 THE RESURRECTION OF THE LAMB, THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, THE SON OF GOD SUNDAY APRIL 5, 2015 THE TITLE OF THE MESSAGE: The Cross Part 4 From Resurrection Sunday Morning Into Eternity The Resurrection Ministry of Jesus Christ His Kingship, His Lordship and His Godhood Forever. SUBJECT TOPICALLY REFERENCED UNDER: The Resurrection, Eternal Life, Victory, Justified Introduction to the Text; Romans 1:15-17 The Theme and Textual Summation of the Passage!!! He Is Risen!!! Palm Sunday The Majesty of the Cross Good Friday The Display of the Cross Passion Wednesday The Christ of the Cross Resurrection Sunday The View of the Cross. Acts 1:1-3 The former account I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, 2 until the day in which He was taken up, after He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen, 3 to whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God. Luke 24:1-35 Now on the first day of the week, (Sunday) very early in the morning, they, and certain other women with them, came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. :2 But they found the stone rolled away from the tomb. :3 Then they went in and did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. :4 And it happened, as they were greatly perplexed about this, that behold, two men stood by them in shining garments. :5 Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, Why do you seek the living among the dead? :6 He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, :7 saying, The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. :8 then they remembered His words. :9 Then they returned from the tomb and told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest. :10 It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them, who told these things to the apostles. :11 And their words seemed to them like idle tales, and they did not believe them. :12 But Peter arose and ran to the tomb; and stooping down, he saw the linen cloths lying by themselves; and he departed, marveling to himself at what had happened. :13 Now behold, two of them were traveling that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was seven miles from Jerusalem. :14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened. :15 So it was, while they conversed and reasoned, that Jesus Himself drew near and went with them. :16 But their eyes were restrained, so that they did not recognize Him. :17 And He said to them, What kind of conversation is this that you have with one another as you walk and are sad? :18 Then the one whose name was Cleopas answered and said to Him, Are You the only stranger in Jerusalem, and have You not known the things which happened there in these days? :19 And He said to them, What things? So they said to Him, The things concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a Prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, :20 1

and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to be condemned to death, and crucified Him. :21 But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, today is the third day since these things happened. :22 Yes, and certain women of our company, who arrived at the tomb early, astonished us. :23 When they did not find His body, they came saying that they had also seen a vision of angels who said He was alive. :24 And certain of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said; but Him they did not see. :25 Then He said to them, O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! :26 Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory? :27 And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, Jesus expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself. :28 Then as they drew near to the village where they were going, He indicated that He would have gone on farther. :29 But they constrained Him, saying, Abide with us, for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And He went in to stay with them. :30 Now it came to pass, as He sat at the table with them, that He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. :31 Then their eyes were opened and they recognized Him; and He suddenly vanished from their sight. :32 And they said to one another, Did not our hearts burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us? :33 So they rose up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven and those who were with them gathered together, :34 saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon! :35 And they told them about the things that had happened Luke 24:35 And they told them about the things that had happened 1.) Through the eyes of the disciples 1a.) The view from the women Their love and devotion was guided by their memory. Death cannot affect their remembrance of Him. Luke 24:1 Now on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they, and certain other women with them, came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. Matthew 28:5-7 But the angel answered and said to the women, Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. 6 He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. 7 And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you. It s Been Said that Christianity is for Girls ( it s the only faith on earth that honors, defends and exalts the place of women and womanhood ) The first evangelists in the Bible were women. Mark 16:1-7 Now when the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, that they might come and anoint Him. 2 Very early in the morning, on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen. 3 And they said among themselves, Who will roll away the stone from the door of the tomb for us? 4 But when they looked up, they saw that the stone had been rolled away for it was very large. 5 And entering the tomb, they saw a young man clothed in a long white robe sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed. :6 But he said to them, Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid Him. 7 But go, tell His disciples and Peter that He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him, as He said to you. 2

1b.) The view from the eleven Through The Eyes Of The Disciples they had seen the most but believed the least. They had become swallowed by fear. Luke 24:9-11 Then they (the women) returned from the tomb and told all these things to the eleven (the disciples) and to all the rest. 10 It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them, who told these things to the apostles. 11 And their words seemed to them like idle tales, and they did not believe them. Snap out of it girls, What s wrong with you? you re all filled with hope and joy and you re acting like you believe in the Bible stop it. grow up and get ahold of yourselves - like us guys here who are filled with fear and are hiding in this room because we re all gonna die. Luke 24:36-43 Now as they said these things, Jesus Himself stood in the midst of them, and said to them, Peace to you. 37 But they were terrified and frightened, and supposed they had seen a ghost. 38 And He said to them, WHY are you troubled? And WHY do doubts arise in your hearts? 39 Behold My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself. Handle Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have. :40 When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His feet. (evidence) 41 But while they still did not believe for joy, (to good to be true) and marveled, He said to them, Have you any food here? 42 So they gave Him a piece of a broiled fish (wahoo s fish tacos) and some honeycomb. 43 And He took it and ate it in their presence. Through The Eyes Of The Disciples 1c.) The view from all the rest since the early hours of Good Friday, all the other followers of Jesus had forsaken Him and fled. The Emmaus Road Encounter Luke 24:32-35a And they (these are other disciples) said to one another, Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us? 33 So they rose up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven and those who were with them gathered together, 34 saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon! 35 And they told about the things that had happened on the road, and how Jesus was made known to them 3

So what s the point? 2 Peter 1:16 For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty. 2.) Through the eyes of the angels 2a.) The view from their boldness throughout the Bible, the angels have had a front row seat to the events and fulfillments of the Scriptures. Matthew 28:2-4 And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it. 3 His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. 4 And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men. - - Boo-Ya (1) descended from heaven, and (2) came and rolled back the stone from the door, and (3) sat on it. when you think of angels do you think of them sitting - - not me 2b.) The view from the obvious Through The Eyes Of The Angels the angels had to remind the disciples of what they had already been taught by Jesus. Luke 24:2-7 But they (the women) found the stone rolled away from the tomb. 3 Then they went in and did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 And it happened, as they were greatly perplexed about this, that behold, two men stood by them in shining garments. 5 Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they (the angels) said to them, Why do you seek the living among the dead? 6 He is not here, but is risen! REMEMBER how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, :7 saying, The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. Through The Eyes Of The Angels 4

2c.) The view from their impatience the angels marveled at the disciples inability to believe in the evidence of all that they had experienced. (1) Why do you seek the living among the dead? 6 He is not here, but is risen! (2) REMEMBER how He spoke to you. (3) why are you afraid. (4) go and tell the others.. The Business of Angels Hebrews1:14 Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation? Matthew 18:5-6,10 Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me. Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea :10 Beware that you don t look down on (devalue) any of these little ones. For I tell you (warning) that in heaven their angels are always in the presence of my heavenly Father. (reporting) 3.) Through the eyes of the losers 3a.) The view from the religionist this is the view of the - desperately and dangerously passionate, legalist. The Cross in Light of the Resurrection 3b.) The view from the world-ling Through The Eyes Of The Losers this is the line-of-sight of those who just don t have the time to care. Jesus warned against the preoccupations and cares that consume us and distract us. Matthew 19:21-22 Jesus said to him, If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me. :22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions. 5

Luke 9:57-60 As they were walking along, someone said to Jesus, I will follow you wherever you go. :58 But Jesus replied, Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place even to lay his head. :59 He said to another person, Come, follow me. The man agreed, but he said, Lord, first let me return home and bury my father. :60 But Jesus told him, Let the spiritually dead bury their own dead! Through The Eyes Of The Losers 3c.) The view from Satan and his band of hellions this would be the blind-sight of the superficial, the view of the unwilling. John 8:37-45 I know that you are Abraham s descendants, but you seek to kill Me, because My word has no place in you. 38 I speak what I have seen with My Father, and you do what you have seen with your father. :39 They answered and said to Him, Abraham is our father. Jesus said to them, If you were Abraham s children, you would do the works of Abraham. 40 But now you seek to kill Me, a Man who has told you the truth which I heard from God. Abraham did not do this. 41 You do the deeds of your father. (ancestry.com) :42 Jesus said to them, If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; nor have I come of Myself, but He sent Me. 43 Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My word. 44 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. 45 But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me. 4.) Through the eyes of you this, after all is the target-audience. All the you s who are here right now you re the reason for all of this. Through The Eyes Of You 4a.) Do you view the cross as a colossal mistake? 6

If you do, then there is a good chance that you believe your plan would have been a better plan. You Would Be The Star of Your Own Show Luke 23:39 Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us. Matthew 27:39-40 And those who passed by blasphemed Him, wagging their heads 40 and saying, You who destroy the temple and build it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross. Through The Eyes Of You 4b.) Do you view the cross as a bit over the top? That is the view that the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is just all a bit too intense and dramatic to you. Through The Eyes Of You 4c.) Do you see Him as He is? That only the LORD can answer your deepest needs and all your questions. That only He can calm your soul. Isaiah 18-19a Come now, (choice) and let us reason together, Says the LORD, Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool. :19a If you are willing (choice) Your view of the cross determines; This Resurrection Sunday Morning. Your view of the cross determines; What s Meaningful and Valuable to You. 7

Your view of the cross determines; The Rest of Your Life Joshua 24:15 And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, (choice) whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will (choose) to serve the LORD. End of Study Copyright April 5, 2015 by Jack Hibbs 8
