6 Inclement Weather Information Although we are expecting the sun to shine throughout the entire Presidents Cup event, we need to prepare for rain, lightning, and other forms of inclement weather. Rain Delay Multiple three (3) blast sound of the air horn: participants are to go to their cars and remain at the complex. You will be notified when the delay is over. Lightning Warning Continuous blast sound of the air horn. Participants are to vacate the field IMMEDIATELY and proceed to their cars. Do NOT stand on a hilltop or in an exposed area. Avoid being the tallest object around and seek shelter in your vehicle. Stay away from metal fences, trees, goal posts, and the overhead electrical transmission lines within the complexes. ALTITUDE INFORMATION Photo Credit: Visit Salt Lake Salt Lake City is 4,330 feet above sea level. The air is thinner and drier here, but don t let that worry you! Here are some tips on how to prepare for the difference in altitude. DRINK WATER Before your trip to SLC, and while you are here, drinking plenty of water is the best way to help your body adjust easily to the higher altitude. Higher altitude usually means you may need to drink more water than you re used to with the air being dry like a desert. EAT FOODS HIGH IN POTASSIUM Foods such as broccoli, bananas, avocado, cantaloupe, celery, greens, bran, chocolate, granola, dried fruit, potatoes and tomatoes will help you replenish electrolytes by balancing salt intake. Pack your favorite electrolyte drink to help your child stay hydrated. WATCH YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY The effects of exercise are a bit more intense here. Be careful when doing any training. PACK FOR SUN 11

12 Even though the average temperature in June doesn t get as hot as other places on the west coast, the effects of the sun are strong. Bring sunglasses, sunscreen, and lip balm. This ancient lake existed within portions of Utah, Nevada, and Idaho, with an elevation rising from 4,200 feet to 5,200 feet (1,280 meters to 1,585 meters) at some points. The eastern and northern portions of the city are located on a series of terraces, or former beaches, which are known locally as "the benches." All occupants of private vehicles must be wearing safety restraints. Children should be secured in car seats or safety belts. Please don't drink and drive. Like many Western states, Utah has stringent laws. A blood alcohol content of 0.05% or more is considered "driving under the influence" and you will be arrested and charged with a crime. Salt Lake is 4,300 feet above sea level. Consume alcohol cautiously as it has more effect at this altitude, and even more at ski area altitudes of 7,000-8,000 feet.
