Lesson Text: Exodus 3:1-12 Sunday, July 2, 2017 King James Version (KJV) I. MOSES CIRCUMSTANCES (Exodus 3:1) 1. Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb. II. MOSES AND THE DIVINE APPEARANCE (Exodus 3:2-6) 2. And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. 3. And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. 4. And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.

5. And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground. 6. Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God. III. MOSES AND THE DIVINE MESSAGE (Exodus 3:7-10) 7. And the Lord said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows; 8. And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites. 9. Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me: and I have also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them. 10. Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel

out of Egypt IV. MOSES OBJECTION OF UNWORTHINESS (Exodus 3:11-12) 11. And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt? 12. And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain. New International Version (NIV) I. MOSES CIRCUMSTANCES (Exodus 3:1) 1. Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-inlaw, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.

II. MOSES AND THE DIVINE APPEARANCE (Exodus 3:2-6) 2. There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. 3. So Moses thought, I will go over and see this strange sight why the bush does not burn up. 4. When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, Moses! Moses! And Moses said, Here I am. 5. Do not come any closer, God said. Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground. 6. Then he said, I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God. III. MOSES AND THE DIVINE MESSAGE (Exodus 3:7-10) 7. The Lord said, I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering.

8. So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land,a land flowing with milk and honey the home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. 9. And now the cry of the Israelites has reached me, and I have seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing them. 10. So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt. IV. MOSES OBJECTION OF UNWORTHINESS (Exodus 3:11-12) 11. But Moses said to God, Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt? 12. And God said, I will be with you.and this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain.

PRACTICAL POINTS: 1. The Lord can use anything to reach us, even our own curiosity (Exodus 3:1-3). 2. When we answer God s call, we must remove anything that interferes with His holiness (Exodus 3:4-5). 3. Our God is holy and we should come before Him in reverence (Exodus 3:6). 4. Regardless of our circumstances, remember that God is sensitive to our troubles, and He hears our cries (Exodus 3:7-9). 5. No challenge is too great when God is with us (Exodus 3:10-11). 6. God can be trusted to keep His promises (Exodus 3:12). ***The Bible Expositor and Illuminator, Union Gospel Press***
