The City of David is the birthplace of the city of Jerusalem, the place where King David established his kingdom, and where the history of the People of Israel was written. It is within walking distance from the Old City of Jerusalem and the Western Wall, and is one of the most exciting sites in Israel. Lunch at Bein HaKshatot (Under the Arches) VIP Tour the Western Wall Tunnels A significant find has recently been uncovered under the Kotel. Archaeological excavations have revealed a 14th century grand hall in the tunnels under the Muslim Quarter. DAY 4 THURSDAY, JUNE 2 ND Morning: Visit to the tomb of the Prophet Shmuel Hanavi The tomb of the Prophet Samuel lies to the north of Jerusalem. Built on the heights, it is a sentinel overlooking the city and the desert beyond, visible from miles around. It has been an outlook, protecting the city, for over a thousand years. As such, over the centuries the traditional resting place of Samuel the Prophet has seen armies clash at its feet, conquerors come and go, and pilgrims of many faiths assembled in worship. Maccabi Forest Tour Ben Shemen Forest Israeli archaeologists may be one step closer to solving a riddle that has vexed explorers for more than a century: the location of the fabled tomb of the biblical Maccabees. An ancient structure that the Antiquities Authority began excavating last year on the side of a highway appears to match ancient descriptions of the tomb of Jewish rebels who wrested control of Judea from Seleucid rule and established a Jewish kingdom in the 2nd century.
