This is a challenge that many of us have had to face, and will have to face, as we seek to be the man or woman that God desires us to be. Planning and preparing are vital and necessary part of our journey to become a Godly person. However, over planning and over preparation can be a detriment in your desire to love God and serve Him with all of your heart. James 4:13-17 (NLT) 13 Look here, you who say, Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit. 14How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog it s here a little while, then it s gone. 15 What you ought to say is, If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that. 16 Otherwise you are boasting about your own plans, and sall such boasting is evil. 17Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it. We all desire to have a plan in order to get from one place to another. How many of you would take a weekend trip without planning and making your reservations for airline, accommodations, ground transportation, and events? Last weekend Clarice and I took an overnight trip to Honolulu to attend the Kaneshiro reunion. I am so grateful to Clarice who planned and made all the reservations for all of our needs. She truly is a blessing and a gift from the Lord to me. However, with all of the reservations and plans that Clarice had diligently made, the shifting circumstances and the unknowns caused us to be flexible and fine tune and even change our plans. Rigidity to set plans would only have made the two of us very stressed and unhappy. More importantly, being rigid and inflexible could have made us very displeasing unto the Lord to the point where we could have been a bad witness of our Lord s love and grace. James 4:13-17 gives us a look at the life and heart of one who has the proper balance needed to be pleasing unto the Lord. It starts out by showing us that we all desire to plan and know how we will be addressing the future. It is a good thing to think through and plan how you will handle your growing into a mature relationship with Jesus Christ. We should plan and act on that plan. However, because of the unknowns and shifting circumstances, the plan should never be the master. Jesus Christ needs to be the master of our plans. Again, this is why loving the Lord God with all of your heart, mind, and soul is so important. Your relationship of love and grace with Him should be so important that He is the one to guide and direct you through all of the complexities of your life. He is the one who will rule...not your plans. This is not to say that the plan is wrong, but this emphasizes the fact that it is all about Jesus and nothing else. If it was all about the plan, all that would be important is that you have developed the plan and that you will be disciplined to this plan. This passage of scripture is saying that all of your life needs to be wrapped up in your relationship with the Lord and your commitment to this dynamic relationship is the key. In my relationship with my wife, Clarice, I have fallen so in love with her that I can completely trust her. I know that there is a plan and I know that she has it under control. Therefore, when changes start to take place, I simply need to turn to God s gift to me and simply ask her what now? My love and confidence in her will guide us and I never have to worry. In a greater way, this is the way it should be in our relationship with Jesus. All of our plans and ways need to be submitted to Him. Submitting all of our plans to the Lord also means that in the developmental stage, we are seeking IN THIS ISSUE 1 Knowing Where You Want To Go, But Not Knowing How To Get There 2 Knowing Where You Want... Knowing Where You Want To Go, But Not Knowing How To Get There Pastor Stephen Kaneshiro Prayer and the reading of His Word become vital in seeking His guidance in developing any plans. If we leave Him out of the developmental process we may also be planning to leave Him out of the challenges that may occur in carrying out of these plans. When the Lord is in charge of the development and the execution of your plans, He is in charge of your life. When He is in charge of your life, your life will bring glory and honor to Him. Bringing glory and honor to the Lord will bring joy and fulfillment to you. Therefore, let me encourage you to submit all of your plans and all of your life unto the Lord. Knowing all of this and not doing it is sin. Sin will bring you nothing but misery. Choose Jesus and let Him bring you life eternal. God bless you all as you seek to be all that He desires you to be. ANNOUNCEMENTS Thank you, Church Family, For Restocking the Food Pantry with lots of good, nutritious food!! VIF FOOD PANTRY Word of ENCOURAGEMENT All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord s Supper), and to prayer. A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved. Acts 2:42-47 The vision of the VIF food Pantry is to live out Acts 2. Perhaps you and your family have a need. This FOOD PANTRY is for YOU! We, as a family, want to follow THE WORD and live life together. Come and grab a bag of groceries--your need is why the pantry exists. And while you re there--let's share a prayer giving GLORY to GOD as He grows us all in knowledge and grace. Or, perhaps you know someone in need--family or neighbors. This FOOD PANTRY is for YOU! It s so SIMPLE. We just look for opportunities to share the gospel with real and practical helps. And a bag of groceries in someone s life may be just the opportunity to supply a need, develop a relationship, and share the truth of God s Eternal love in the Gospel of Jesus. Sunday, July 26, the pantry will be open to distribute a bag of groceries to members of our church, friends, and neighbors. The plan is to make ourselves available to both be the hands and feet of Jesus to meet practical needs, as well as to create opportunities to develop relationships and share the Gospel simply defined as God s perfect love for us in Jesus Christ. Stop by the back of the church. Get a bag. Bring a friend or help identify someone who may be blessed by a visit and a bag of groceries. If you know anyone outside of our church with whom we can share the true gospel as we meet physical needs, let us know. God will use us all for His Glory as we live out Acts 2:42-47. We all have something to share as brothers and sisters in God s family. Family Movie Night August 1 Musubi Noodles Sign-up sheet on back table Main Dish Salad Hot Dogs Dessert - 3 -
