The flowers are given to the glory of God by Steve and Cynthia Duncan in memory of Cynthia s father Jim Duncan. Gathering Preparation for Worship Exodus 19:5 6a Now therefore, if you obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession out of all the peoples. Indeed, the whole earth is mine, but you shall be for me a priestly kingdom and a holy nation. These are the words that you shall speak to the Israelites. Voluntary Darwall s Fantasia John Dixon Call to Worship Lead a life worthy of the calling to which you are called. We cannot do this alone, so we gather as God s people. Lead a life which reflects your calling; that life of peace grounded in the Spirit. We rejoice in our oneness in Christ; we will share the good news of the grace offered to us. Live a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called. We gather as God s family at the table prepared for us, waiting to be fed by the Bread of Life. Let us worship God. Hymn 361 O Christ, the Great Foundation Aurelia Stanzas 1, 2, and 4 Prayer of Confession (silently, then said together) Lord Jesus, thank you for your amazing generosity to us. You pour out your gifts on your people, for the building up of your church, and for the redemption of the world. We confess that many of these gifts remain unopened. We have not unwrapped them. We re afraid of what you will ask of us. So we choose to remain as children, vulnerable to selfish schemes. Forgive us, and give us the courage to use the gifts you give to us, to open space for new skills to grow. Show us how to serve your people as you call us. Lord, thank you for the gift of new beginnings. Amen. Assurance of Pardon Friends, believe the good news of the Gospel! In Jesus Christ we are forgiven! The Gloria Patri Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Passing the Peace Greet those around you with, The peace of Christ be with you. Hymn 518 Lamb of God Lamb of God Stanza 1 Community Joys and Events 2

In our differences unite us in the circle of your love. O God, remind us we are not alone. Though we move on different pathways, we are walking to your throne. Help us learn to love each other, show us ways to understand. We are members of one family, growing stronger, joining hands. O God, remind us we are not alone. Though we move on different pathways, we are walking to your throne. Take our many ways of working, blend the colors of each soul into the beauty of a rainbow. Give us life, Lord, make us whole. Invitation to the Table Prayer of Thanksgiving The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. Comments for Contemplation Coming to Maturity in Christ Ephesians 4:1 6; Ephesians 4:7 16 1. We find throughout both Old and New Testaments the Lord expressing his desires for his people, making clear that it is only through relationship with Him, beginning with humbly praying and seeking his face and turning from our wickedness, that God can begin to use us and change us into instruments of his will and his. 2. The devastating pandemic of bubonic plague occurred in the mid-1300 s. They called it the Black Death. It began in Asia in 1347 and from there spread by boat to port cities in Italy. It then moved up the trade routes, reaching England the next year. Its mortality rate was very high, estimated to be between 20 and 40% of the where it arrived. 3. And the Apostle Paul urges us in our Scripture lessons today to mature and to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ. So today we are looking at how we may indeed and grow up as the Body of Christ, through speaking the truth in love. 4. Over the years I have discovered that genuine maturity in a person is fundamentally a spiritual process. If someone is truly mature, then they will have a spiritual wisdom and capacity about them, that is not present in those who clearly have some growing to do. For that reason, you may run into very young people who are remarkably mature, and adults who, for one reason or another, are still quite immature. The difference is in their spiritual depth and. 5. So here we begin to understand that maturity is about growing up into Christ and not being blown about by whimsical winds of doctrine, or by the sophistry of clever people. No, the unity of the faith and the knowledge of the Son of God is a critical piece of the maturity to which we are called. And we are to use that maturity to serve others, building up the Body of Christ, and the truth in love.. - to temp - ta - tion, but de - liv - er us from e - Thine is the king-dom, and the pow-er, and the glo - ry, for - ev-er and ev-er.
