Let us gather the people together in praise! Come! Let us be the flame that signals the Spirit s presence in this place. Let us rejoice among the old and the young, our sons and our daughters! Look! Even as we remain distinct, we are made one in Christ! Come! Let us worship God! *Processional Hymn On Pentecost They Gathered Number 225 ST THEODULPH Anthem Oh, How I Love Jesus Children s Choir Kyran Kennedy, Soloist Oh, how I love Jesus Oh, how I love Jesus Oh, how I love Jesus Because He first loved me There is a name I love to hear I love to sing its worth It sounds like music in my ear The sweetest name on earth *Please stand, if you are able. Passing of the Peace The peace of Christ be with you. And also with you. Sara Turpin *Hymn of Praise A Rushing, Mighty Wind Number 228 FESTAL SONG *Gospel Reading John 15:26-27; 16:4b Kallye Grady (Please stand, if able, for the Gospel reading) When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who comes from the Father, he will testify on my behalf. You also are to testify because you have been with me from the beginning. But I have said these things to you so that when their hour comes you may remember that I told you about them. I did not say these things to you from the beginning, because I was with you. But now I am going to him who sent me; yet none of you asks me, Where are you going? But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your hearts. Nevertheless I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. This is the Word of our Lord. Thanks be to God. Prayers of the People Erica Whitaker Prayer of Confession We confess to you, Renewing Spirit, that we confuse unity with uniformity, and diversity with divisiveness. We deny and destroy the beauty you created in each person. We long to change these patterns, O Creator, but we do not know how. Teach us to value challenge. Help us to see strength in difference. And empower us to build your kingdom in creativity and love. Amen. *Please stand, if you are able 2

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, sweetest Name I know, fills my every longing, Keeps me singing as I go. I will sing of my Redeemer, and His wondrous love to me. On the cruel cross He suffered from the curse to set me free. Sing O sing of my Redeemer with His blood He purchased me. On the Cross He sealed my pardon, paid the debt and made me free. *Please stand, if you are able 3

Postlude Crown Him With Many Crowns Shelley Shumate Anna Laura Page On this Sunday of Pentecost we remember the arrival of the Spirit like the rush of a mighty wind appearing as tongues of fire (Acts 2:1-3). We celebrate the birth of the Church and prepare to enter a season of formation as the Body of Christ. The red that adorns our sanctuary on this day reminds us of the power of the Spirit to light the way and inspire us to do God s work in the world. *Please stand, if you are able. 4
