Dear Friends in Christ, From the Desk of Father Reed C. Mungovan, S.D.S. Today our fist reading deals with the prophet Elijah fleeing from Queen Jezebel. Jezebel is determined to kill Elijah. He flees and asks God to die. God sends an angel to Elijah and the angel provides food and encouragement so that Elijah can keep ministering as prophet and so that Elijah may continue his journey. We too know what it is like to feel discouraged. At times in our journey we wonder if it is worth it to keep going. The good news for us is that life is indeed worth living. God wants to encourage us on our life s journey. God wants to provide for all our needs. Jesus is indeed the living bread from heaven. Jesus feeds us in the Eucharist and Jesus feeds us spiritually each day. May we trust in Him more and more. Holy Mary, Mother of Good Counsel, pray for us. Fr. Padre Reed Christopher Mungovan, SDS Mission Appeal Weekend August 11-12, 2018 The Schoenstatt Fathers are part of the International Schoenstatt Movement. Schoenstatt is a renewal movement founded by Father Joseph Kentenich in 1914 in Germany. Several religious and lay communities are part of the Movement. The Schoenstatt Fathers being the youngest with 300 members work in all continents. Our task is to render priestly service to the movement and to build it up. The Indian Schoenstatt Fathers are now in the position to develop several projects to realize their charism within the demands of the country. They have 58 Indian Fathers and 40 seminarians in the different stages of formation. The Schoenstatt Fathers in India aim at developing centers of spiritual renewal, children's villages for deserted and neglected 60 children predominantly girls, and schools for qualified catholic character formation and education. Their 20 tutoring centers help the children continue their school. Their home for boys provides 20 poor children the facility of lodging and quality education. The Schoenstatt Fathers work in parishes; promote faith formation of the youth and families and help reach out the poor and needy participating in the evangelization process of the Church. Fr. Johnson Nellissery, a Schoenstatt Father from India will speak about their mission activities in India. For their social projects and the formation of the seminarians Schoenstatt Fathers of India appeal to your solidarity and ask for your generous support.

Senior Ministry Here are some encouraging words to help MGC Parishioners tackle the difficult issues that all families have to tackle -- assisted living issues for older adults. Young people have parents and older retired parishioners have themselves so EVERYBODY can benefit learning about assisted living. Here are some encouraging words from Adele Lund, a parishioner at St. Sebs, who writes: Why Assisted Living is a Gift Years ago when an elder faced declining health there were typically two options, either they moved in with one of their children to get the care they needed, or they went to a nursing home. In those days, the nursing home was known as the "old folks' home". It wasn't just a place that someone rehabbed like today, but rather they lived there...for years in many cases. Today, the typical stay for someone in a nursing home is counted more in days or months, not years. So why has it changed so much? ASSISTED LIVING. Think about it -- today families often have two full time wage earners so caring for a parent on a daily basis isn't always realistic. Caring for someone with a chronic illness such as dementia, cancer, heart disease, Parkinson s disease or stroke can be physically, emotionally and financially exhausting. Powerful Tools for Caregivers is an educational program designed to help family caregivers take care of themselves while caring for a relative or friend. You will benefit from this class whether you are helping a parent, spouse, or friend. Participants will learn to: Reduce Stress Improve self-confidence Better communicate feelings Increase their ability to make tough decisions Locate helpful resources Choose Your Six-Week Workshop: Dates: Every Tuesday, September 11-October 16 Time: 12:00-1:30pm ( lunch served at 11:30am) Location: : Library Square, 1820 S 75th St. West Allis, WI 53214 OR Dates: Every Wed, Sept. 12-October 17 Time: 12:00-1:30pm (lunch served at 11:30am) Location: Laurel Oaks, 1700 W. The Cafes will be held the third Tuesday of every month at a rotating list of Milwaukee Public Libraries. Each café will offer a fun, interactive program along with refreshments. First time attendees must register with the Alzheimer s Association of Southeastern Wisconsin at 1-800-272-3900. What? Elections Again! We, in the U.S., are really fortunate to be able to participate in choosing our leaders with genuine freedom. Our dignity as human persons requires all of us to pursue the common good and create and support institutions that improve the conditions of human life. Faithful citizenship requires us to think about the effects of a particular policy on our society and, in particular, those with little or no voice -- it's the policy and what it does and does not do for the vanishing middle class, those of the lower middle class, and the poor and vulnerable not the personality or wealth of the group proposing the policy. Let's use the freedoms we have to vote and then to hold our elected leaders accountable once they start to govern. VOTE TUESDAY, AUGUST 14

It is the largest publicly funded emergency shelter in Milwaukee. We need volunteers to donate or prepare food and or serve for this one night commitment. Since summer is a busy time, consider a cash donation that we can use to purchase a hearty meal from Bunzels. This is an opportunity to help others as a Parish Collaborative family. If you are interested in donating food, money or your time, please email Linda Swiderski at soundfiddler@aol.com or Tony Burkart at burokart55@aol.com for specifics. We are asking for a commitment by August 15th. Thank you for your consideration.
