GOD IS NOT A JOKER Sylvester Onyemalechi God is not a man. He is the Almighty Creator of the universe. There is no one higher than Him. All things visible and invisible, spirit and material things came into existence by Him. In Him all things hold together- without Him, nothing exists. He is life and the source of life for other creatures. There is nothing impossible for Him to do. His word is law. He is the first and the last, the beginning and the end, the Alpha and the Omega. He is the Amen. After He speaks, no one can speak again. His word is final authority. His word does not fail. His word supersedes every other word. His word over-rules any other word. Because He is not a man, He cannot lie or change His mind about anything He has spoken. Num 23:19 19 God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill? 1 Sam 15:29 29 He who is the Glory of Israel does not lie or change his mind; for he is not a man, that he should change his mind." Once He speaks, it is final. Why? Because He is God, He is not a man or a son of man. His knowledge is complete and perfect unlike man who knows in part and depends on God for knowledge. He who declares the end from the beginning, and it comes to pass is greater than man. As creator and ruler over all His creation, His word must be firm to be taken serious by His subjects. If He is always changing His mind (His word) no one will take Him serious enough to obey Him. In the eyes of man, He will look like a weakling. Another reason why God does not change His mind is that He speaks the truth. He does not lie. He does not know how to cheat, deceive or play games on people. He speaks reality. He speaks revelation. He speaks wisdom. He speaks the truth. He has no reason to lie. All He wants is to communicate His heart to all his creatures. And He is committed to all He says to see to their actualization. Come to think of it, why will God lie? Is anyone greater than Him? Can anyone beat or discipline Him? Can anyone take Him to court or judge Him? Can anyone punish Him? Is He answerable to any one? The answer is NO, NO, NO! God Almighty is truth personified. He says only what He means, and means what He says. HE IS NOT A JOKER. He doesn t have time for that. He doesn t lie; neither does He change His mind. GOD S WORD CAN T FAIL

Isa 55:10-11 10 As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, 11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. Ps 145:13 13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations. The LORD is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all he has made. These two passages and many more show us that God is faithful to His words, ands it is impossible for His word to fail to come to pass. Every word from Him must fulfil its purpose. It is a must. There is no force in the universe that can stop the word of God from coming to pass. At the fullness of time, like a seed, it will bring forth fruit. Never doubt the word of God, it never fails. There are historical accounts in the Bible, and in our generation that proves that God s word can be trusted it does not fail. HE IS COMMITTED TO HIS WORD Jer 1:12 12 The LORD said to me, "You have seen correctly, for I am watching to see that my word is fulfilled." Isa 45:23 23 By myself I have sworn, my mouth has uttered in all integrity a word that will not be revoked: Before me every knee will bow; by me every tongue will swear. God s integrity is at stake every time He speaks. He knows that. That is why he cannot afford to allow any of His word to pass unfulfilled. He monitors His word to make sure that at the appropriate time, it is fulfilled. As a result, He is committed to His word. A minute delay will affect His integrity as God. A complete failure is worse off. So far, He has proven Himself faithful, reliable and true. That Jesus came, died, resurrected and ascended to heaven, is a proof that He is committed to His word. His program for His creation is going according to plan. That you are saved, healed and have your prayers made in the name of Jesus Christ answered, are proofs that He is watching over His word to perform it. What He has spoken concerning you, He will perform. Having understood this, what manner of response are we to give to His word? We are to take His word seriously and obey Him completely in all things. Failure to do this will bring serious consequences.

The same way the promises of God do not fail, so also the judgments decreed against disobedience. You must be careful to do all that is written to earn you the blessings promised, and save you from the judgment decreed. In Deut. 17:17, God warned the would be Israelite king not to marry too many wives, or his heart will be led astray. The major crises David had that almost ended his carrier as king over Israel and even his life was caused by his insatiable desire for many women and wives. His adultery with Bathsheba caused him thirteen years of fierce judgment even after God has told him he had been forgiven (I Sam. 11-19). Solomon married seven hundred wives and three hundred concubines, against the warning of God being considered. What was the outcome? Let the scripture speak for itself: 1 Kings 11:1-6 11:1 King Solomon, however, loved many foreign women besides Pharaoh's daughter- Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians and Hittites. 2 They were from nations about which the LORD had told the Israelites, "You must not intermarry with them, because they will surely turn your hearts after their gods." Nevertheless, Solomon held fast to them in love. 3 He had seven hundred wives of royal birth and three hundred concubines, and his wives led him astray. 4 As Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods, and his heart was not fully devoted to the LORD his God, as the heart of David his father had been. 5 He followed Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, and Molech the detestable god of the Ammonites. 6 So Solomon did evil in the eyes of the LORD; he did not follow the LORD completely, as David his father had done. The result of his action was that he lost out in God. The kingdom was divided and only two tribes were left for his descendants because of David. In Deuteronomy 28:53-57, God predicts that if the people continue to sin against God, a time will come when the people will start eating their children because of the suffering that their enemy will inflict on them during the siege that will come upon them as a result of their rebellion. Deut 28:53-57 53 Because of the suffering that your enemy will inflict on you during the siege, you will eat the fruit of the womb, the flesh of the sons and daughters the LORD your God has given you. 54 Even the most gentle and sensitive man among you will have no compassion on his own brother or the wife he loves or his surviving children, 55 and he will not give to one of them any of the flesh of his children that he is eating. It will be all he has left because of the suffering your enemy will inflict on you during the siege of all your cities. 56 The most gentle and sensitive woman among you--so sensitive and gentle that she would not venture to touch the ground with the sole of her foot--will begrudge the husband she loves and her own son or daughter 57 the afterbirth from her womb and the children she bears. For she intends to eat them secretly during the siege and in the distress that your enemy will inflict on you in your cities.

The people never took it serious, probably they believed as some people believe today, that God is not wicked, He won t do such a thing. They always say, He is a God of love. Indeed He is a God of love and also a consuming fire. He cannot set aside his word. He is not a joker. If He speaks something, He must see to the manifestation of it. In 2 Kings 6:26-31, we see the word of God being fulfilled. 2 Kings 6:26-31 26 As the king of Israel was passing by on the wall, a woman cried to him, "Help me, my lord the king!" 27 The king replied, "If the LORD does not help you, where can I get help for you? From the threshing floor? From the winepress?" 28 Then he asked her, "What's the matter?" She answered, "This woman said to me, `Give up your son so we may eat him today, and tomorrow we'll eat my son.' 29 So we cooked my son and ate him. The next day I said to her, `Give up your son so we may eat him,' but she had hidden him." 30 When the king heard the woman's words, he tore his robes. As he went along the wall, the people looked, and there, underneath, he had sackcloth on his body. 31 He said, "May God deal with me, be it ever so severely, if the head of Elisha son of Shaphat remains on his shoulders today!" Did you notice that the king and the inhabitants did not know that it was God and not the prophet who was dealing with them? Most times, when the judgment of God is in place, men are not able to link up to the acts of disobedience leading to it and the decreed judgment now in manifestation. But it is important that you understand that God does not forget His word or decrees. After a million years, he will still remember and carry out His word. Don t joke with God, for God is not a joker. God does not change His mind. God is not partial. God is not a respecter of persons. He cannot set aside any scripture for anybody. His word applies to all. Obey Him and you will enjoy Him. Disobey Him and you will see His wrath. Don t forget, He is not a joker! Check your life now and repent of all acts of disobedience. Amend your ways quickly before the wrath of God will catch up with you. Don t struggle with God. Just obey him completely. Partial obedience is as good as disobedience only complete or total obedience will do. To repent means to stop the sin you are committing and ask God for grace to do the right thing. If you are not born again, you are on your way to eternal torture. Save yourself from the wrath of God by giving your life to Jesus as you turn completely with all your heart from your sinful ways to God in righteousness through faith in Jesus Christ. Always remember, God is not a joker. He says only what He means and He means what He says.
