Day 1, November 6 Send off Mass at St. Nick s

There s always one in the crowd!

Day 2, November 7 Arrive in Tel Aviv We arrive at Tel Aviv s Ben Gurion Airport in the evening. We meet Rami, our tour guide, and Roy Schoeman. We then drive along the Mediterranean coast to Stella Maris in Haifa, Israel, our home for one night. <<< Trafficated for sure!

Day 2, November 7 Stella Maris on Mount Carmel - Haifa Stella Maris is the largest Carmelite Monastery and world center of the Order.

Day 2, November 7 Stella Maris on Mount Carmel - Haifa Stella Maris is also the home of the prophets Elijah and Elisha and is built above the very cave where Elijah lived.

Day 3, November 8 Muhraqa - Haifa Jezreel Valley, which during the course of 7,000 years has seen countless battles. The Book of Revelation identifies this spot as the place where the final battle of Armageddon will be fought. Place where Elijah had his famous duel with the prophets of Baal (1 Kings 18).

Day 3, November 8 Muhraqa - Haifa Statue and altar commemorating the duel. In the base of the altar are 12 local stones, according to the number of the tribes.

Day 3, November 8 Nazareth St. Joseph s carpentry shop located near the Church of the Annunciation.

Day 3, November 8 Church of the Annunciation, Nazareth

Day 3, November 8 Church of the Annunciation, Nazareth Just behind the altar is the actual room in which Mary said yes to the angel Gabriel.

Day 3, November 8 Church of the Annunciation, Nazareth Celebrated Mass in a side chapel.

Day 3, November 8 Mount Tabor, Galilee Mount Tabor is a hill rising 1,500 feet about sea level over looking the Jezreel Valley of Galilee. This is where Jesus was transfigured and revealed his Divine Glory to the apostles (Matt 17:2). View from lookout on top Mount Tabor.

Day 3, November 8 Mount Tabor, Galilee Since the 4th century, Christians have commemorated the Transfiguration of Christ at this location.

Day 3, November 8 Cana, Galilee Cana is a town just five miles from Nazareth and it was here that Jesus began His public life when He performed His first miracle by changing water into wine at a wedding feast. It was here also that He blessed marriage and raised it to the dignity of a sacrament.

Day 3, November 8 Cana, Galilee This old jar is said to be one of the six jars used for the miracle. Each stone jar had a capacity of 20-30 gallons. (John 2:6) It is clear that John gives us such detail in order to highlight the magnitude and scope of the miracle that was about to occur before the crowd at the feast. In commemoration of this event, it is a common tradition that married couples renew their marital vows at this site.

Day 4, November 9 Galilee Church of Peter s Primacy (John 21:16). Here on the northwest shore of Galilee, Jesus appeared to the Apostles after His Resurrection and confirmed Peter in the role as Vicar of Christ with the words, Feed My Sheep. This limestone rock is venerated as the "Mensa Christi" Latin for "table of Christ" and is believed to be the spot where Jesus laid out a breakfast of bread and fish for the Apostles after they came in from fishing.

Day 4, November 9 Galilee Mass at the Peter s Primacy Amphitheatre with the Sea of Galilee in the background.

Day 4, November 9 Galilee Dipped our feet in the Sea Galilee. Father Shofner s feet selfie <<<

Day 4, November 9 Capernaum Capernaum which for three years was the center of Jesus public ministry. Here our Lord met his first disciples Peter, Andrew, James, John and Matthew and worked many miracles. He healed Peter s mother-in-law of a fever, brought a child back to life, cured a leper, healed the centurion s servant, cast out a demon from a young boy and healed all that were sick (Matt 8:16).

The late fourth century A.D. White Synagogue built upon the remains of the Synagogue of Jesus.

Day 4, November 9 Capernaum The house of Simon Peter is located beneath the Church of St. Peter.

Day 4, November 9 Kursi, Golan Heights This is an archaeological site containing the ruins of a Byzantine monastery and identified by tradition as the site of Jesus' "Miracle of the Swine".

Day 4, November 9 Sea of Galilee

Day 5, November 10 Mount of Beatitudes The Mount of Beatitudes is the traditional site of Jesus' delivery of the Sermon on the Mount. The Church is octagon-shaped to symbolize the eight beatitudes and it is crowned with a copper dome below which are eight windows adorned with verses from the Sermon on the Mount.

Day 5, November 10 Golan Heights, Mount Meron Mount Meron borders of Syria, Jordan, and Israel. It is also the highest peak in Israel at 1208 meters above sea level and was used as a military base.

Day 5, November 10 Dead Sea Borders Israel, the West Bank, and Jordan is a salt lake whose banks are more than 1,312 feet below sea level, the lowest point on dry land. Its famously hypersaline water makes floating easy, and its mineral-rich black mud is used for therapeutic and cosmetic treatments.

Jacob s Well, where Jesus asked a Samaritan woman for a drink and offered her living water, lies in the crypt of a modern Greek Orthodox church at Nablus in the West Bank. It is often considered the most authentic site in the Holy Land since no one can move a well that was originally more than 131 feet deep. Day 6, November 11 Samaria, Palestine

Many times Jesus passed through this city on his way to Jerusalem. The sycamore tree which Zacchaeus climbed in order to catch a glimpse of Jesus, still grows in this area.

Day 6, November 11 Mount of Temptation, Jericho After Jesus was baptized, He went up a high mountain and prayed and fasted for 40 days during which time He was tempted by the devil. Now called the Mount of Temptation, a Greek Orthodox Monastery was built over the cave where Christ stayed.

Day 6, November 11 Mount of Temptation, Jericho This monastery was built into the very rock of the mountain and can only be reached by a cable car that departs from ancient Jericho down below.

This was the place where the bewildered shepherds heard the angels singing "Glory to God in the Highest and Peace on Earth to Men of Good will." The church is meant to resemble a Bedouin tent according to the traditional and ancient way of living in the area.
