Christ the eternal Lord, Whose promise here we claim, Whose gifts of grace are freely poured On all who name Your name. With thankfulness and praise We stand before Your throne, Intent to serve You all our days And make Your glory known. 2. Christ the unchanging Word To ev ry passing age, Whose timeless teachings still are heard Set forth on Scripture s page; Transform our thought and mind, Enlighten all who read, Within Your Word by faith to find The bread of life indeed. 3. Christ the redeeming Son, Who shares our human birth, And by His death salvation won For ev ry child of earth; Inspire our hearts, we pray, To tell Your love abroad, That all may honor Christ today And follow Him as Lord. 4. Christ the ascended King Exalted high above, Whose praise unending ages sing, Whom yet unseen we love; When mortal life is past Your voice from heaven s throne Shall call Your children home at last To know as we are known. *INVOCATION AND GENERAL CONFESSION L: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. BAPTISM (10:30) L: Keep me safe, O God, for in You I take refuge. C: I said to the Lord, You are my Lord; apart from You I have no good thing. L: I will praise the Lord who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. C: I have set the Lord always before me. Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. L: Let us confess our sins together: C: Almighty God, Judge of all people, we confess to You and to one another our sinfulness. We have broken Your law. We have departed from Your path of righteousness. We have ignored Your precepts. We have done what is wrong in Your sight. We stand guilty before You. Almighty Lord, we implore Your mercy. Humbly we ask Your forgiveness, for Jesus sake. Amen. *THE ABSOLUTION *THE GLORIA PATRI (Taken from LSB, page 186) C: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

*THE KYRIE C: Lord, have mercy upon us. Christ, have mercy upon us. Lord, have mercy upon us. *THE COLLECT OF THE DAY L: The Lord be with you. C: And with thy spirit. L: Let us pray. THE OLD TESTAMENT READING for the fourth Sunday after Pentecost is from Job 38:1-11, page 443: 1 Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind and said: 2 Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge? 3 Dress for action like a man; I will question you, and you make it known to me. 4 Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding. 5 Who determined its measurements surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? 6 On what were its bases sunk, or who laid its cornerstone, 7 when the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy? 8 Or who shut in the sea with doors when it burst out from the womb, 9 when I made clouds its garment and thick darkness its swaddling band, 10 and prescribed limits for it and set bars and doors, 11 and said, Thus far shall you come, and no farther, and here shall your proud waves be stayed? L: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. THE SECOND READING is from II Corinthians 6:1-13, pages 966-967: 1 Working together with him, then, we appeal to you not to receive the grace of God in vain. 2 For he says, In a favorable time I listened to you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you. Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation. 3 We put no obstacle in anyone's way, so that no fault may be found with our ministry, 4 but as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: by great endurance, in afflictions, hardships, calamities, 5 beatings, imprisonments, riots, labors, sleepless nights, hunger; 6 by purity, knowledge, patience, kindness, the Holy Spirit, genuine love; 7 by truthful speech, and the power of God; with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left; 8 through honor and dishonor, through slander and praise. We are treated as impostors, and yet are true; 9 as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold, we live; as punished, and yet not killed; 10 as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, yet possessing everything. 11 We have spoken freely to you, Corinthians; our heart is wide open. 12 You are not restricted by us, but you are restricted in your own affections. 13 In return (I speak as to children) widen your hearts also. L: This is the Word of the Lord. *ALLELUIA AND VERSE C: Alleluia. Alleluia. Alleluia. *THE HOLY GOSPEL - The Holy Gospel according to St. Mark, the fourth chapter, verses 35-41, pages 839-840: C: Glory be to Thee, O Lord. 35 On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, Let us go across to the other side. 36 And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. And other boats were with him. 37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. 38 But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing? 39 And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, Peace! Be still! And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 He said to them, Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith? 41 And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him? L: This is the Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise be to Thee, O Christ.

*THE APOSTLES CREED (5, 8 & 9:20) I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
