Luke 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. Leviticus 19:1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 2 Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy. Leviticus 19 is known as Torah within Torah The 10 words (commandments) are embodied in this portion. There is a direct reference to 6 commandments and an indirect reference to 4. Parents gave us life and the responsibility to train us up. Similar to relationship with Yahweh. He gave us life and so we recognize His authority over us. Mark 2:24 And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful? Mark 2:27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: 1 P a g e
The Peace Offering-Zevah Shelamim Your Notes Leviticus 19:5 And if ye offer a sacrifice of peace offerings unto the LORD, ye shall offer it at your own will. 6 It shall be eaten the same day ye offer it, and on the morrow: and if ought remain until the third day, it shall be burnt in the fire. 7 And if it be eaten at all on the third day, it is abominable; it shall not be accepted. The Zevah Shelamim could be called the vow offering -had to do with the original pronouncement of a vow a worshipper might undertake when completed. Paul paid for the animal sacrifices in Acts 21:23 for the men to complete their vows. It was a sacrifice that the worshipper could perform as often as he determined and wanted to -he got to keep the largest portion of the meat for himself and his family Whatever is chosen to be sacrificed to Yahweh has its ownership transferred to God at the precise moment-(when hands are laid on the head). It then belonged to God-holy property. To eat improperly is to violate God s property. John 20:13 And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him. John 20:14 And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus. 15 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? 16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master. 17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God. Some of the meat of the Zevah offering went to the priests. It s the Lord s decision to turn it over since it s his property John 20:19 Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. 20 And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord 2 P a g e
John 20:24 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. Your Notes John 20:26 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. 27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. Acts 13:29 And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulchre. 30 But God raised him from the dead: 34 And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David. 35 Wherefore he saith also in another psalm, Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. 37 But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption. 38 Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: The peace offering reflects an abundance of joy and gratitude for one s well being and deliverance form trouble In thanking God for His goodness brings divine grace that insures welfare. Deuteronomy 8:11 Beware that thou forget not the LORD thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his judgments, and his statutes, which I command thee this day: Deuteronomy 8:17 And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth. Progressing from Impurity to Holiness Leviticus 19:23 "When you come into the land and plant all kinds of trees for food, then you shall count their fruit as forbidden; three years it shall be forbidden to you, it must not be eaten. 24 And in the fourth year all their fruit shall be holy, an offering of praise to the LORD. In the 4 th year the fruit was consecrated and set-apart-holy property-belonging to God-the priests ate some in a set-apart place. Doing what seems to be good is not good if the motivation is wrong 25 But in the fifth year you may eat of their fruit, that they may yield more richly for you: I am the LORD your God. 3 P a g e
Please be prompt, quiet, and respectful to the Sanctuary when returning from the Midservice Break as the Worship service will begin promptly. Thank you & Shalom. Part 2-The Gospels & Acts from a Hebraic Perspective Leviticus 18:2 "Say to the people of Israel, I am the LORD your God. 3 You shall not do as they do in the land of Egypt, where you dwelt, and you shall not do as they do in the land of Canaan, to which I am bringing you. You shall not walk in their statutes. 4 You shall do my ordinances and keep my statutes and walk in them. I am the LORD your God. Our society is obsessed with sensuality: The media, advertising of images, fashion and entertainment. Your Notes Leviticus 19:35 'You shall do no injustice in judgment, in measurement of length, weight, or volume. 36 'You shall have honest scales, honest weights, an honest ephah, and an honest hin: I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt. Yeshua uses a parable to illustrate this-a single point Luke 16:1 And he said also unto his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods. Luke 16:2 And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? give an account of thy stewardship; for thou mayest be no longer steward. Luke 16:8 And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light. give an account of thy stewardship ;-rabbinic symbolism for death & final judgment All your deeds are written down in the book M. Avot 2:1 This is a principle Yeshua is using called Kol v chomer -was one of Hillel s 7 rules for understanding Torah..Yeshua used it to his advantage John 7:21 Jesus answered and said unto them, I have done one work, and ye all marvel. 22 Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and ye on the sabbath day circumcise a man. 23 If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day? 4 P a g e
Matthew 12:10 And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him. 11 And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out? 12 How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days. Your Notes Paul uses the same analogy Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. Luke 16:9 And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations. Yeshua is saying If the wicked and unjust steward has enough sense to use wealth to buy friends for the future, how much more should the righteous to use wealth-storing up treasures in heaven 10 He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much. 11 If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? 12 And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man's, who shall give you that which is your own? 13 No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Luke 16:14 And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him. 15 And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God. Yeshua may have been relating to II Chronicles 6 2Chronicles 6:28 If there be dearth in the land, if there be pestilence, if there be blasting, or mildew, locusts, or caterpillers; if their enemies besiege them in the cities of their land; whatsoever sore or whatsoever sickness there be: 5 P a g e
29 Then what prayer or what supplication soever shall be made of any man, or of all thy people Israel, when every one shall know his own sore and his own grief, and shall spread forth his hands in this house: 30 Then hear thou from heaven thy dwelling place, and forgive, and render unto every man according unto all his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou only knowest the hearts of the children of men:) 31 That they may fear thee, to walk in thy ways, so long as they live in the land which thou gavest unto our fathers. Your notes The Pharisee s prioritized money and greed above God s ways. Ephesians 5:1 Be ye therefore imitators of God, as beloved children; Leviticus 19:2 Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy. 6 P a g e
