1 Emmanuel Emmaus Fall is In the Air Fall Walks From the Community Lay Director Emmanuel Emmaus Community, Do you recall the story of Nehemiah rebuilding the wall around Jerusalem? In short, he made a plan, gathered materials, got the support of some good friends and then set an impossible goal. And, Oh I forgot to mention that he asked for God s blessing on his seemingly ridiculous task of rebuilding a dilapidated wall around a mournful city..he finished in 52 days much to the surprise of his critics. We as a community have also been challenged with building up our Teams, Pilgrims and Volunteers to meet an expected goal outlined by the Upper Room. One of those expectations is to have a minimum number of Pilgrims on a Walk. And over the past three walks we have exceeded that goal. Over the past three walks in particular, the Men s Walks have seen an almost 100% increase in Pilgrims. I believe there are two reasons for this. The first is that God is faithful. He hears our prayers to fill each walk to overflowing and we ve seen His answer over the past 18 months. But just as important, it is the faithfulness of YOU each community member that has sponsored a pilgrim, become a member of a team, volunteered at camp or simply prayed for successful walks. So as we prepare for the fall walks lets continue to have the faith of Nehemiah and keep building our community and watching God in His faithfulness. De Colores. Peace and Grace, J.D, Men s Sept. 15-18, 2016 Women s Sept 22-25, 2016 *************************************************************************** Board of Directors Ballot The ballot for those running to fill open positions on The Emmanuel Emmaus Board of Directors beginning in 2017 is on the next page. Be sure to vote. These are the community members who oversee the operation of Emmanuel Emmaus within the Upper Room Guidelines. If you have any desire to run for a position in the future, let a current board member know. Elections occur each September. Approximately one third of the board rotates off each year. Each position is a commitment to a three year term, except treasurer which is five. The Board meets every month, and members are required to attend Upper Room Leadership training. If you want to be a Board Member, make sure you are willing to make the commitment.

From the Community Spiritual Director 3 Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and we shall be created, and you shall renew the face of the earth. O God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful. Grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy your consolations. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. We pray these words 14 times over the course of an Emmaus weekend, and at least that many times in training. I am wondering what would happen if we all made this prayer a part of our daily devotions until January 1, 2017. I expect to see changes in the face of the earth and changes in us that will be noticeable to everyone around us. This is not an experiment, but an observation of the effects of one prayer. Please join me in this prayer daily for the next 4 plus months. De Colores!
