An Important Emmaus training event 6:30pm Emmaus Gathering December 25: Birthday Celebration for Jesus Prayer is important. It was an integral part of Jesus Christ's life and should be part of ours also. However, some people don t know where to start and feel overwhelmed before they begin. Start by asking God for direction in your thoughts and actions as you pray for an Emmaus Walk or Chrysalis Flight weekend. Pray for team members to respond to the Holy Spirit and that God will strengthen the spiritual attitudes of everyone on a weekend. Pray that individuals will renew efforts to meet the spiritual and material needs of people around them. Pray that Pilgrims and Caterpillars will gain a new knowledge of God's will and the ability to obey His will. Visit our web site at www.albemarleemmaus.org/ to sign up for a vigil prayer time & follow any weekend changes that might occur. Prayers Warriors always welcomed. It often helps if you can take a minute and check our on-line Community Calendar each month. Last minute schedules adjustments are sometimes necessary and checking the calendar each month is the best way to keep up with any changes.
Community Lay Director Comments As we close out the month of April and head into May there are many exciting things happening in the Emmaus Community. Preparations for the fall Men and Women s Emmaus walks are underway. The upcoming Lay Directors are Rod Perry leading the men of EA116 and Bert Hoggard will be leading the women of EA117. Please join me as we pray for these leaders, the team, and the pilgrims that the Lord will send to these weekends in October. The Emmaus of the Albemarle Board met in April and received reports from both Lay Directors from the Spring walks and had great discussion on how the Lord worked during these weekends as well as ways that the Emmaus community can work to improve future walks. One of the key topics of discussion was surrounding the need to review the implementation process of changes that were made within the Emmaus community through the guidance of the Upper Room ministries and the Emmaus boards acting from 2013 to the present time. A working document has been developed to be given to each lay director that will include changes that were voted on and implemented from 2013 to the present. We as a board will continue to update this document as we move forward with task of being obedient to the Lord in working toward continued compliance with the covenant of the Upper Room Ministries. We covet your prayers and support as we strive to diligently serve the Emmaus community as we have been called to do. I look forward to seeing each of you on May 13 th at Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church for the gathering at 6:30 p.m. Love in Christ, Brenda Norris EA48 EA2017 Community Lay Director brendasnorris@gmail.com Important Sponsor Information A few simple reminders about how important it is for sponsors to follow through on all their responsibilities before, during AND after each Walk. Pray, approach, explain, assure, pray We are very interested in helping people Answer all questions while we don t tell all develop a closer relationship with Christ & to details, help person not be blocked from find new ways to serve their church and attending because they are worried about community something Get all the personal letters and label/separate Get application from Pilgrim in timely them from all other letters manner and make sure signed by pastor Pick up Pilgrim, take to dinner, bring to first We do NOT accept applications from people night, attend sponsor s hour not attending/associated with a church Attend Candlelight service We do not want to try to fix people whose Attend Sunday Closing and take Pilgrim home issues are blocking their daily progress in Bring Pilgrim to DoDU so they receive training faith for sponsoring and teaming Remember to pray for Pilgrims & Team Encourage them to attend Gatherings 52 days until Summer Chrysalis Flight AC #42 June 22~25, 2017 Want to make a difference? The Walk to Emmaus is a unique opportunity to reflect on one's faith journey and make a deeper commitment to Christ. As participants conclude a Walk to Emmaus weekend they are introduced to the Fourth Day concept -- a symbol of the days of Christian pilgrimage that follow the three-day Emmaus experience. Two of the closing questions were: "What has this weekend meant to you?" and "What are you going to do with it?" Most of us said the weekend deepened our commitment to Christ and we would look for ways to spread His love. One simple way to practice that is to be involved in Chrysalis. Helping youth give their hearts to Christ and begin to comprehend the kind of servant leadership that God may require of them in the future is an investment in the future. Don t have time to team, then sponsor a youth. A little too short on cash to sponsor, then select a vigil time and pray during the weekend. The Emmaus movement does not exist primarily for the weekend Walks. Its purposes are to deepen the faith of individuals, to increase the faith of congregations, and to bring Christianity to the world. Nobody can do everything but everybody can do something.
