FROM THE DESK OF THE PASTOR Dear Friends in Christ, This Sunday we celebrate the Feast of the Blessed Trinity. From the day of our Baptism, we are caught up into the Blessed Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. One God, yet at the same time, three Persons. Throughout our lives as Catholic s we sign ourselves with the Sign of the Cross to remember who has claimed us, redeemed us, and saved us. So let us make the Sign of the Cross with intentionality remembering the love that has been poured out upon us by the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. It is with great joy that I share with you that the Archbishop has appointed a parochial vicar (assistant priest) to serve with me full time for St. Jude and Holy Innocents Parishes. His name is Fr. Raphael Mkuzi. He is from the Diocese of Mangochi in the country of Malawi, Africa. He has been serving at St. Philip Parish in Woodland, St. Mary of Guadalupe Mission in Ridgefield and St. Joseph Mission in Kalama for the last few years. He will begin his ministry here, July 8 at Holy Innocents. He and I will rotate between St. Jude and Holy Innocents. Because he is full time, the good news is that we will be able to provide more services at Holy Innocents. Fr. Mkuzi will be living with me at the rectory. I want to express my gratitude once again for Fr. Heric s many years of service at Holy Innocents and Eastside Catholic. He was only assigned 20% time to us, but he had a much greater impact than that and leaves a wonderful legacy here of service and ministry. The Archbishop has appointed Fr. Heric to serve Christ Our Hope Parish in downtown Seattle. This is very young parish and I know it will be blessed by his ministry. Fr. Heric will be back from sabbatical for the month of June, before he takes up his new assignment. There will be a celebration in June at Holy Innocents to honor and thank Fr. Heric for his wonderful ministry. I ask that you pray for Fr. Mkuzi and Fr. Heric especially during this time of transition. May the Lord bless them for their ministry and service here, strengthen them during this transition and make their ministry joyful and fruitful in their new assignments. May the Love of the Blessed Trinity surround you always, Fr. Johnson Happy Memorial Day! There will be NO 9:00am Mass or Word & Communion on Monday, May 28th. Church Office will be Closed -2-

SOCIAL JUSTICE RELATIONSHIPS On Trinity Sunday, we celebrate the wonder of relationship. Catholic Social Teaching invites us to work together to create healthy relationships between all of God s people leading toward justice and peace. Our prolonged global economic problems challenge us to examine our values. Relationships and economic systems have gotten off kilter. Some people make excessive salaries while others work long hours in low income jobs and more and more people have no jobs at all. Our relationship with the earth has also gotten off kilter. The climate is changing. Species are dying out. Our way of living is not sustainable. We read today from Deuteronomy: You must keep his statutes and commandments that I enjoin on you today, that you and your children after you may prosper, and that you may have long life on the land which the LORD, your God, is giving you forever." We need the wisdom of God and the way of Jesus Christ to get our relationships back in order. PRAYER FOR GAZA In the land so many have called Holy, Fresh blood is seeping into the ground in Gaza. Unarmed men, women, and children caught In the cycle of violence John Paul II lamented, Reminding us only peaceful means Can bring peace; violence is always a defeat. With new images of death, of so many wounded, We lament again that this conflict still continues, As it has for seven decades, turning neighbors Into enemies, taking land, burning century-old olive trees So the dispossessed have no homes to return to And live in unending, impoverished displacement. Christ, who walked where this bloodshed is happening, We cry out to you for the end to this violence: Grant that our voices are heard as we petition The international community, the Israelis, and the Palestinians To practice the ways of peace in the land of the prophets. May the weeping end and may new life be possible From the ruins of old stones. Amen. -4- St. Jude St. Vincent de Paul 1st Quarter 2018 Report to St. Jude Parish # GOODS Helped $ Value Goods - Food 34 $860.00 Goods - Gasoline 21 $649.00 Goods - Beds 18 $445.00 Goods - Furniture 5 $242.13 Goods - Household 12 $160.00 Goods - Other 2 $75.00 Goods - Bus Tickets 2 $35.00 Goods - Hygiene Items 2 $25.00 TOTAL 96 $2,491.13 SERVICES # Helped $ Value Services - Rent 48 $4,104.00 Services - Utilities 35 $2,874.83 Services - Deposit 2 $221.00 Services - Vehicle 1 $126.10 Services - Other 1 $41.40 Services - Advice/ Referral 3 $0.00 TOTAL 90 $7,367.33 TOTAL PLEDGED GOODS & SERVICES VISITS AND SERVICES TO PEOPLE 186 $9,858.46 PERSON-TO-PERSON VISITS # Visits # Helped A. ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL 2018 Help Support the Annual Catholic Appeal! As of May 18th, we have had 280 families participate. Those families have pledged $138,020 toward a parish goal of $270,000. Everything given above and beyond our ACA goal comes back to the parish and will go toward improving the heating, cooling and ventilation of the Church. How will you participate this year? More than ever, your support is essential to more than 60 ministries and services that our Church provides throughout western Washington. Because some of your fellow parishioners will not be able to financially support the appeal this year, would you consider a gift of $1 a day of $365? Your gift will help us to do the work Jesus has entrusted to us. If you cannot support the ACA financially this year, please pray for the Archdiocese of and its ministries. Thank you if you have already made your gift! If not, please fill out a pledge envelope today or go online to donate: www.seattlearchdiocese.org/donate For Mobile devices: https://www.seattlearchdiocese.org/stewardship/mobaca/mobdonate.aspx Please Support our Bulletin Advertisers Located on the back of our bulletin you have seen advertisements for local businesses including parishioners that have services that you may be able to use. As you will see if you read each ad that we note if the person or persons in the ad are parishioners of St. Jude. We encourage you to consider supporting all those that have advertised in our bulletin.
