June 13, 2010 ~ 10:00 a.m. Dedication of New Sanctuary How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of Hosts! My soul longs, indeed it faints, for the courts of the Lord. Psalm 84:1-2 GATHERING AROUND THE WORD Welcome Prelude and Processional Variations on Today in Celebration Bonnie Johansen-Werner ~ Edwin T. Childs Please use the prelude to center yourself, to make the transition from getting here to being here. We pray that you may be able to relax your body, quiet the inner dialogue of your mind, and open yourself to the Spirit of God moving in our midst. Introit Glory and Worship Are Before Him ~ Purcell Chancel and Youth Choirs * Call to Worship (from Psalm 84) Nick Shargo Happy are those who live in your house, O God, ever singing your praise. My heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God. Happy are those whose strength is in you, O God, ever offering prayer to you. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than live in the tents of the unmerciful. For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. O Lord of hosts, happy is everyone who trusts in you. * Opening Prayer Nick Shargo God of the universe, the heavens cannot contain your glory. Yet you have come to be with us in Jesus Christ and, by the power of the Holy Spirit, you are present with us now in the risen Christ. The congregation participates in worship in many ways. All are invited to read words in bold. The asterisk * is an invitation to stand or sit as you feel comfortable as we sing and pray together. Assisted Listening Devices are available from the sound tech. LARGE PRINT hymnals are available from the ushers.
We dedicate this house to your honor and glory. We thank you for all the gifts that have come together in this building, the craft and art of many hands, contributions of money and material, labors of love and commitment. Bless the work of our hands, O God, that this place may offer your welcome to many and diverse people, that all who seek you here may know your presence in their lives. By your grace, may the Gospel of Jesus Christ be truly proclaimed and may we encounter your grace in the sacraments, that the body of Christ may be nurtured here, and strengthened for Christ s service in the world. Amen! Choral Response Sanctus from Requiem ~ John Rutter Chancel and Youth Choirs; Christopher Dortwegt~flute, Isaac Stevenson~glockenspiel Translation: Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of Hosts. 1. Today in celebration we sing a joyful song in thanks for our foundation, a legacy so strong. Our God, from the beginning, in blessing and in grace, has shown the love of Jesus to people in this place. 2. We come with great thanksgiving for goodness in our past, with faith that in our living God's care will always last. Our history sustains us; the future sounds a call to be a church in service extending love to all. 3. When fears and failures bind us, we search to find the way. God's power and comfort find us, renewing strength each day. Responding to the calling to shepherd and to grow may lead us in directions we did not choose to go. 4. With vision and with tending, we pray the church will thrive. Our gifts and voices blending will keep the song alive. Until the time of harvest, until our fruit is known, we'll stand and trust securely in Christ, our cornerstone.
