DECEMBER 24, 2017 ST. COLUMBANUS CHURCH #481/PAGE 4 We wish everyone a blessed and holy Christmas. This is a time of great grace as our full confession lines last Monday demonstrated. It is a time to be thankful for our faith, our family, and our friends. We also place our cares and concerns at the foot of the manger upon which the shadow of the cross looms. This innocent child would one day bear the sins of the world upon his shoulders. Let us rejoice that God loved us so much that He sent His Son as one like us in all things except sin. There is nothing more lovable than a child. In the infant Jesus, God gives us a chance to put aside all the cares of the world for a brief time, and to pour out our hearts in love, and know that all is right because the Son of God is also our Prince of Peace. Despite all the commercialization of Christmas there is something very special in the air this time of year. We feel, I believe, a little bit of the joy and peace that Jesus wants us to have if only we would make room for Him in the inn of our hearts. We were created to seek happiness. This happiness cannot be found in any material wealth but only in Jesus. He came in the innocence of a child, and we can only find Him in the innocence and simplicity of a life lived for Him. Let us welcome Him into our hearts and homes not just this one day of the year but every day. We priests are given a special privilege to be able to celebrate three Masses on Christmas. It will be a great joy for me to offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass for all of you and your loved ones this Christmas. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. In Jesus and Mary, Fr. Frank Samoylo
