Raising the Bar Installation of Pastor Michael Hofmann July 1, 2018 8:15 and 10:50 a.m. PRE-SERVICE MUSIC....................................................Carla Barrows WORDS OF WELCOME.....................................................Lori Fischer PROCESSIONAL HYMN... Before You, Lord, We Bow.... LSB 966, vs. 1, 2, 4, 5 Before You, Lord, we bow, Our God who reigns above And rules the world below, Boundless in pow r and love. Our thanks we bring In joy and praise, Our hearts we raise To You, our King! The nation You have blest May well Your love declare, From foes and fears at rest, Protected by Your care. For this bright day, For this fair land Gifts of Your hand Our thanks we pay. Earth, hear your Maker s voice; Your great Redeemer own; Believe, obey, rejoice, And worship Him alone. Cast down your pride, Your sin deplore, And bow before The Crucified. And when in pow r He comes, Oh, may our native land From all its rending tombs Send forth a glorious band, A countless throng, With joy to sing To heav n s high King Salvation s song! Public domain INVOCATION P In the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. C Amen. CONFESSION P If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. C But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. P Let us then confess our sins to God our Father. C Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean. We have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve Your present and eternal punishment. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen.

ABSOLUTION P Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. C Amen. HYMN OF PRAISE.... This Is the Feast....LSB 155 Women: Worthy is Christ, the Lamb who was slain, whose blood set us free to be people of God. Men: Power, riches, wisdom and strength, and honor, blessing, and glory are His. Women: Sing with all the people of God, and join in the hymn of all creation. Blessing, honor, glory, and might be to God and the Lamb forever. Amen. Men: For the Lamb who was slain has begun His reign. Alleluia. EPISTLE READING....................... 2 Corinthians 8:1-9; 13-15 P The Epistle Reading is from the 8 th Chapter of 2 nd Corinthians. P 1 We want you to know, brothers, about the grace of God that has been given among the churches of Macedonia, 2 for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. 3 For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord, 4 begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints 5 and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us. 6 Accordingly, we urged Titus that as he had started, so he should complete among you this act of grace. 7 But as you excel in everything in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all earnestness, and in our love for you see that you excel in this act of grace also. 8 I say this not as a command, but to prove by the earnestness of others that your love also is genuine. 9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you by His poverty might become rich. 13 For I do not mean that others should be eased and you burdened, but that as a matter of fairness 14 your abundance at the present time should supply their need, so that their abundance may supply your need, that there may be fairness. 15 As it is written, Whoever gathered much had nothing left over, and whoever gathered little had no lack. P This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God. ALLELUIA AND VERSE....................................................... LSB 173 C Alleluia. Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. Alleluia.

HOLY GOSPEL.......................................................Matthew 5:13-20 P The Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew, the 5 th Chapter. C Glory to You, O Lord. P [Jesus said:] 13 You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people s feet. 14 You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. 17 Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. 19 Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. P This is the Gospel of the Lord. C Praise to You, O Christ. CONFESSION OF FAITH.................................................. Nicene Creed P We confess our faith in the words of the Nicene Creed. C I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end. And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life T of the world to come. Amen. CHILDREN S MESSAGE.................................................. Alec Kemnitz MESSAGE........................................................Pastor Michael Dorn INSTALLATION OF PASTOR MICHAEL HOFMANN (8:15).... Pastor Ken Hennings RECOGNITION OF PASTOR MICHAEL HOFMANN (10:50) PRAYERS

LORD S PRAYER C Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. OFFERING MUSICAL OFFERING (8:15)... God Is Our Refuge and Strength...Sanctuary Choir by Allen Pote MUSICAL OFFERING (10:50). Called to Serve by Larson/McGuire... Ross Krueger INVITATION TO COMMUNION WORDS OF INSTITUTION P Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to the disciples and said: Take, eat; this is My T body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of Me. In the same way also He took the cup after supper, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying: Drink of it, all of you; this cup is the new testament in My T blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me. PEACE OF THE LORD P The peace of the Lord be with you always. C And also with you. SHARING THE PEACE AGNUS DEI.... Lamb of God....LSB 180 C Lamb of God, You take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us. Lamb of God, You take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us. Come forward then with faithful hearts sincere, And take the pledges of salvation here. O Lord, our hearts with grateful thanks endow As in this feast of love You bless us now.
