The Ingredie gredients en Of Disobedience ience e Small Group Application Activity This activity will show the children that obedience is not the easiest way, but it is the best way. In this activity, the children will see that obedience might be more difficult than disobedience, but the results of obedience are far better than the results of disobedience. For this activity, you will need this Help Sheet, a small container of cottage cheese, some soy sauce, a clear glass, and a spoon. Note: You could substitute anything that looks similar to milk for the cottage cheese and anything that is a similar color to chocolate for the soy sauce. Just make sure that the outcome of mixing them will be disgusting.. I want to try this amazing recipe for chocolate milk, but sometimes following the instructions in a recipe can be hard. 2. Today I have some ways to make it easier.. I ll read you the recipe and show you how I have made it easier. 2. Step one: Use six ounces of fresh milk. 3. I am all out of milk, but instead of going to the store I will use six ounces of cottage cheese because it is easier. 4. Cottage cheese is made from milk so it is close to the same thing. 5. Cottage cheese is white, so it looks close to the same thing. 6. Step two: Use two large tablespoons of chocolate syrup. 7. I don t have any chocolate syrup either, but going to the store is just too hard. It s easier to use what I have, so I will use this bottle of soy sauce. 8. Chocolate is made from a bean, and soy sauce is made from a bean, so it is close to the same thing. 9. Also, soy sauce is brown and chocolate syrup is brown, so it looks close to the same thing. 0. Step three: Mix the ingredients together and enjoy.. This part of the recipe, I am going to obey, so I m sure it will turn out great. Note: Mix the ingredients together as well as you can to make something that looks a little bit like chocolate milk. Drink some, if you dare, but do not allow the children to drink any. 2. This mixture is disgusting. It smells nothing like chocolate milk and I am sure that it will not taste good. 3. What went wrong with my chocolate milk? (You did not use the right ingredients. You did not follow the recipe. You did not obey the instructions.) Continued ON page 2
Continued FROM page. In making this disgusting mixture, I demonstrated three ways and reasons we disobey. These are the ingredients of disobedience. 2. Number one: Lots of times when we disobey it is because we think it is easier. 3. It is easier to play video games than to clean your room. 4. It is easier to go play with your friends than to do your homework. 5. But just because something is easier to do, does not mean it is better. 6. Number two: We disobey by doing something close to the right thing, or something that looks sort of like the right thing. 7. If you copy the answers from your friend s paper, it looks like you have done your homework. 8. If you shove your junk under your bed, it looks like you have cleaned up in your room. 9. But doing something that looks like the right thing, is not the same as obeying. 0. Number three: Sometimes we only obey part of the instructions.. If you put away your toys, but don t fold your clothes, you have not completely cleaned your room. 2. If you do part of your homework, and leave the rest undone, you will not get a good grade. 3. When we do something easier than obeying, or something that looks like obeying, or obey only part of what we are told, we are not obeying at all. When we obey what Jesus teaches, our lives will turn out like a delicious recipe. If we choose to disobey Jesus teachings, our lives will leave a bad taste in our mouth. 2
Obey Way Small Group Application Activity This activity will show the children examples of the consequences of disobeying Jesus and the benefits of obedience. In this activity, the children will hear three stories of children who have an opportunity to obey or disobey a command of Jesus. After they choose, they will face the consequences of their choices, both good and bad. For this activity, you will need this Help Sheet and the Obey Way Stories Lesson 7 from the Lesson Materials CD- ROM. Each child, or pair of children, will need a Bible.. In our Bible Lesson the disciples obeyed Jesus and had an amazing result. 2. What happened when they obeyed Jesus? (They caught a lot of fish.) 3. In our lives, obeying Jesus will look differently than throwing a net on the other side of the boat. 4. I m going to read you some short stories about kids who have the chance to obey one of Jesus commands.. I will read the first part of the story. Then, we will look up the command that Jesus gave. 2. After this, you will decide what the person in the story should do. 3. Then, I will finish reading the story and we will see if the person obeyed, and if it turned out well or it turned out badly. Note: Read the stories, pausing where indicated to interact with the children.. How did things turn out for the people in our stories when they did not obey Jesus? (Things turned out badly.) 2. Things turned out well for Warner because he obeyed Jesus. 3. Obeying Jesus does not mean that we will get everything that we want or that we will always be happy. 4. For example, look at Peter and the disciples. The disciples did amazing things, but they also faced very difficult times. But it was through those difficulties that they were able to reach people all across the world with the Good News of Jesus. 5. If they had not obeyed Jesus, you and I would never have heard the Good News! Just like the disciples did amazing things by obeying Jesus, we will do amazing things by obeying Jesus. Just like Jesus had amazing things in store for the disciples when they obeyed Him, Jesus has amazing things in store for us when we obey Him. But if we don t obey, we may never experience all that Jesus has planned for us.

Cut a slit where it is noted on either side of the screen in your scene. 5. Then, cut out your filmstrips and tape them together. 6. Once you have finished, look at the back of the filmstrips. 7. The back of the filmstrips tells you what to say when the picture is showing in the front. 8. That way you can provide the soundtrack for your broadcast. 9. But there is one slide that is incomplete. Which one is it? (The Bible Verse.) 0. That is correct. We need to look up the reference and use our Bibles to fill in the missing words. Note: Help the children look up the verse and read it together. Be sure you have an NLT version of the Bible so that you can help them fill in the blanks. It Pays To Obey Small Group Application Activity This activity will help the children see the benefits of obeying Jesus. In this activity, the children will look up verses where Jesus has made a specific promise related to obeying a specific command. For this activity, you will need this Help Sheet and the Teacher Version of the Promises Of Jesus Chart Lesson 7 from the Lesson Materials CD-ROM. Each child, or pair of children, will need a Bible, and a Promises Of Jesus Chart Lesson 7 from the Lesson Materials CD-ROM.. In our Bible Lesson, Jesus gave the disciples a command to obey and promised a result if they did. 2. What was the command and what was the promise? (To throw the net on the other side of the boat. They would catch some fish.) 3. What happened when the disciples obeyed Jesus? Did the thing that Jesus promised happen? (Yes. They caught lots of fish.) 4. In our lives, Jesus is not likely to tell us to throw a net on the other side of our boat. But Jesus has given us many commands to obey and many of them have promised results with them.. I will give you a verse to look up. As you look it up, I will read a description of either the promise that Jesus makes or the command we must obey. 2. If I give you the promise, you will try to figure out the command. 3. If I give you the command, you will try to figure out the promise. Note: Refer to the Promises Of Jesus Chart. Give the verse reference first. Then read from the Teacher Version, either the promise or the command, and then help the children find the verse and figure out the answer.. Many times in the Bible when Jesus gives His disciples a command, there is a promise of something good when they obey Jesus. 2. The promises that Jesus made to His disciples also apply to us today. 3. When we obey the commands of Jesus, we can know that the promises of Jesus will come true in our lives as well. Those are some amazing promises! 4. We will always have challenging times and problems in our lives, but it is good to know that if we obey Jesus we can have the best life possible. Just like Jesus promised good things to the disciples when they obeyed Him, Jesus promises good things to us when we obey Him. But if we don t obey, we may never experience all that Jesus has promised.
