We also need donations of candy and water. Please bring them to church by Friday, October 3rd. Contact the church office at 909 599-3870 for parade information. FESTIVE WORSHIP We ll have special music by Country western artist Brian Winkler at Western Days Sunday worship October 5th. We are forming a liturgical choir to sing on Sunday mornings! FLC member Dan Ambrosini will be directing the choir. Dan is a graduate of Cal State LB in music education, and he will start with the very basics. Our initial goal is for the choir to learn the liturgy in 4- part harmony and to support congregational singing. We have had 13 people sign-up already, and rehearsals will take place on Thursdays at 7:00 p.m. starting October 3rd. Come this Thursday and learn to enrich our worship by singing to the LORD!

M O U N T A I N M O V E R Page 2 FLC KEY RINGS FLC key rings are available on the announcement table at FLC. Use them as gifts, put them on lunch bags, book bags, and gym bags. You can even put keys on them! The only thing we ask is that they not be used for is keys for the church, for security reasons. B R I N G Y O U R F A I T H I N T O F O C U S SEEDS OF FAITH GARDEN Our Seeds of Faith Garden group gathers at the garden on the third Saturday of each month at 10:00 a.m. Contact Lisa Blair at 626 422-9097 or at lisamblair127@ yahoo.com for more info on how to help care for Creation. Our thanks to our LIFT and CIA groups for organizing the fish for prizes game and the pinatas. Pastor Berkedal was soaked in the ALS Icebucket Challenge. We are already planning to make next year s event even better. Our thanks to all who produced and celebrated this new program year seeking to follow Jesus at FLC! P R E - S C H O O L C H O I R C O N F I R M A T I O N R E S U M E S Music education in early childhood has been shown to boost communication skills, emotional development, cooperation, group effort, and school readiness. A music education and choir class for Preschoolers ages 3 6 is being formed through the church, the community, and Faith Pre- school and Day Care. Go to www.faithsd.net for an informative flier. Two classes have already been filled. Two additional classes are being planned. On October 31st in 1517, Martin Luther, then a young monk, nailed a list of 95 statements for debate to the door of the castle church in Wittenberg, Germany. Luther challenged the Catholic church of his day to debate beliefs and practices which Luther believed were contrary to the Bible. We ll be celebrating our 497th anniversary on Sunday, October 26th. Join us to enjoy a special cake decorated with Luther s Seal, a symbol of a basic Lutheran belief: it is Christ in my heart, that is, faith, in Christ alone that saves me. A N O T E F R O M T H E P A S T OR Near the end of his book, Bad Religion, Ross Douthat notes that during the four times in history that Christianity itself seems to have been threatened with (temporary) extinction, two things have brought it back: holy living and the arts. One Mother Theresa speaks volumes more than all the books written answering the new atheists. One Pope Francis or one Dr. Kent Brantly, or one of you does more for the church than all the programs directed at the spiritual but not religious. We are the Church. We are the Body of Christ. How we live is the message of Christ to the world. The arts can communicate the voice of God in a way that touches people through a common culture. What can you bring to the proclamation of Christ, and him crucified? You are the light of the world. Be you!
