Bethel A Baptist Church 100 th Anniversary Plan for 2019 June 10, 2018 COMMITTEE LEADERS and their RESPONSIBILITIES Each leader will be responsible for their team. Suggestions This will be a 1 year/12-month celebration starting August 2018 ending July 21, 2019 Each 3 rd Sunday we will have a guest preacher/speaker from Bethel A, a History Nugget and an old time Hymns. Each 5 th Sunday children and young adults will be in charge of service Friday July, 19 Open House Reception in Fellowship Room, light refreshments, Board displays, books, pictures, video and music. Saturday July 20 th Picnic in the Forest, Gospel Concert or playground activities Sunday July 21 st morning services and lunch catered after service at the college Media Committee a. Secure video camera and operator to record activities. Identify as many people as possible. b. Arrange photographing activities. c. Present a slide show or previously taped videos of other church activities with assistance from the history committee. Live video of Rev. Goldsmith, Ulysses Wynn Josephine Wynn ect. members that are not able to attend b. Maybe Face time other Music Committee a. Coordinate with program committee in securing a musical group, if planned, and assist the group with all arrangements sound, etc. b. Research hymns popular for early years of the church and plan to incorporate them in celebration activities and coordinate with the music director to plan hymns and specials. Page 1 of 5
Decoration/Flower Committee Gloria Williamson a. Arrange for decorations and flowers for celebration activities inside and outside the church. b. Provide corsages and/or boutonnieres for special guests. c. Coordinate with hospitality committee to decorate registration area, dining area, etc. d. Mark reserved pews for special guests. Costume/Drama Committee Gloria Williamson a. Encourage church members to wear period clothing to celebration activities. b. Working with the history committee, plan a dramatic presentation of some aspect of the church s history skit, play, a reenactment working with costume committee Hospitality/Welcoming Committee a. Arrange for Open House reception on Friday b. Plan food with food committee for Friday s reception and Saturday s Picnic (food, serving, tables, etc.) c. Coordinate table decorations with flower committee. d. Place activity information in bulletin with reservation request form to be turned for an idea on how many tables, meals, etc. e. Enlist deacons and other members to greet people at specific locations, possibly in period clothing f. Secure and provide wheelchairs when needed. Food Committee Responsible for creating menus, getting estimates on food selection and pricing from various vendors and making recommendations for final decision on food contact. Responsible for working with selected caters in terms of serving and execution of contract. Invitation Committee Judy Griffin a. Invite former members and special guests. Obtain special guest list from Steering Committee. (Include local public officials, legislators, congressmen, NC Baptist Convention staff, Page 2 of 5
Mud Creek Baptist Association, Lott Carey Baptist Foreign Mission Convention, even the White House.) *Many churches will recognize their former deceased pastors by inviting the children and grandchildren of those pastors for this special occasion. This committee must use every possible avenue to assure that all interested persons are contacted and invited. b. Print and mail invitations. (w/ RSVP info or return cards) Include statement, If housing is needed please contact. and coordinate housing and meals as necessary. c. Encourage members to contact family and friends. d. reach out with social media, use online invitations, and our robo caller d. send out a save the date Monday after this year s anniversary starting at revival. Publicity Committee Judy Griffin c. Prepare newspaper articles, announcements for newsletter and notices (don t forget Baptist Message). d. Prepare TV and radio spot announcements (some stations announce church celebrations for FREE). e. Request a proclamation by the mayor for the celebration. Mud Creek Baptist Association, Lott Carey Baptist Foreign Mission Convention, The White House. National Progressive General Baptist Association. (Maybe from Bethel since it is the mother church) f. Arrange for local media and Baptist Message to cover activities. Registration Committee a. Arrange to make a record of all attending culminating celebration activities. Secure loose-leaf notebook with parchment-look pages and black ink pens. b. Locate registration tables at several points in the building and provide name tags at each location. c. Enlist members to assist with registration (suggest they dress in period clothes). Exhibit Committee Edith Darity a. Plan a display area divided into segments of the church s history, possibly by time periods. Page 3 of 5
b. Encourage the collection and use of photos, memorabilia, furniture, newspaper articles the more diverse the better! History Committee a. Assist the writer of the church history by securing material from the church minutes, associational minutes, Mud Creek Baptist Association, Lott Carey Baptist Foreign Mission Convention, Transylvania County Library and Archives, local newspaper and history questionnaire for older church members. b. Arrange with media committee to record interviews with older members. c. Arrange for the proper care and storage of historical materials collected. d. Submit historical highlights/nuggets for publicity committee for newspaper articles and inclusion in church publications throughout celebration period. e. Enlist church members to share picture, newspaper articles, bulletins from church past. f. Provide information for use by costume/drama committee. g. Remember Mr. Nathaniel Hall & his writings Historical Souvenir Booklet Rebecca Wynn a. Collect pictures, information pretraining to the history of the church. b. Arrange and display in a way chronological to give an account of the history of Bethel A. c. Proofread and print for the purpose of distribution. Ad Solicitation Because this book is very expensive to print we will have to as for a donation to help cover the cost, and or sale Ads in the booklet Promotional Committee Seek items that will be a memorable reminder of our 100 th anniversary 2019 Arrange for the printing/production and sale of items. 1.
