Vocational Formation for Deacons A journey that responds to Love and is accountable to the church and to vocation

Communal learning Competency focus Discipleship Competencies Interprets the biblical text and applies its truth to life situations. Demonstrates a vibrant spiritual life through the implementation of spiritual disciplines including prayer, Bible study, holiness of life, and communion with God. Models the role of an effective teacher and communicator, facilitator of response to community needs to serve the poor, lonely, sick, suffering, hungry Living in the Spirit of the beatitudes. Functions as a resource person in discipleship curriculum. Bible study and Bible teaching that relates to mission and ministry in the world. Evaluates current mission programs and issues in light of church history and theology and cultural needs. Leads the church in planning church to world and world to church

Communal learning Competency focus Ministry competencies Exercises the administrative skills of strategic organizing, leading, and evaluating the work that leads to achievement of defined goals and the mission of the church. Recruits, trains, and supervises individuals to fulfill the purposes of the church in the world. Assesses the needs of the community in which the church resides, as well as in the world, collaborates to design appropriate actions to meet those needs, and effectively markets the church s ministry in the community. Develops and administers budgets for ministry programs and organizations. Provides pastoral care and appropriate referrals for the sick, hurting, and grieving in the world; serving the poor, the lonely, the lost. Demonstrates godly humility and sacrificial love for those in the church.
