Dear students, Td Today let ltus learn about tquestion forms. Question forms are frequently used in Spoken English.

What are questions tags? Question tags are small questions tagged to statements.

Why are they used? They are used to get confirmation of what one has stated.

Tags are formed with the help of auxiliaries or helping verbs. They are : am, is, are, was, were, have, has had, do, does, did can-could, shall-should, will-would, would, may-might, might, must.

If the sentence is in positive add not to the helping verb. Example: You are Ravikumar, aren t you?

If the sentence is in negative don t add not to the helping verb. Example: He is not Ravikumar, is he?

If there is no helping verb in a given sentence. Identify the main verb. If the main verb is in present form use do/does according to the subject.

Use do for- I, we, you, they and for all plurals. Use does for he, she, it and for all singulars. If the verb is in the past form use did for all singulars and plurals.

Example: 1. They play Cricket on Sundays, don t they? 2. She plays cricket on Sundays, doesn t she? 3. They played cricket on Sundays, didn t they?

However you have to apply the same principle, that is, If the sentence is in positive, the tag will be in negative. If the sentence is in negative, the tag will be in positive.

Now study these examples to understand the basics about the question tags.

Examples: You are here to learn English, aren t you? You are here since 5 th of this month, aren t you? Narendra answered all the questions correctly, didn t he?
