A Study on the Original Substance of Divine Principle(OSDP) I. Introduction Heavenly Parent, who is the origin of all beings, values and laws, would like to substantialize the creation of His ideal in the 13.7 billion years of universal history, on the earth of our solar system. That ideal is God s nation centering on True Parents. God s nation is the ideal of True Parents fully inherited from His character. God has been conducting the restorational providence of that ideal because of His unchanging, absolute and parental character. Numerous problems arising from human history, past and present, originated from not knowing God, who is the origin and Creator. Therefore, to solve all these kinds of problems, we have to find the solution connected with the view of the first cause and Creator. The Unification Principle explains that the fallen natures and sins come from the original natures of the fall. The first of the original nature of the fall is leaving from God s position. This is the starting point of all kinds of problems. Therefore, knowing God correctly and living with God's will is the fundamental solution to all kinds of problems. At HDH (Hoon Dok Hoe) on the occasion of the Eight Stages Ceremony on August 31, 2008, Rev. Sun Myung Moon (True Father; savor, messiah, LSA, True parent of humankind) for the first time used the term Original Substance of the Divine Principle (OSDP). He continued to emphasize it till the Seonghwa, which was September 3, 2012. Furthermore, he educated members many times about the OSDP. During that progress, many people raised questions about the difference of the content and structure between the Exposition of Divine Principle and the OSDP. Historically, many scholars have discussed the origin of all substances, laws and values with the concept of Original Substance. The theory of original substance (TOS) is a theory about the origin of substances or beings. The OSDP is different from these traditional theories of original substance. We can define the OSDP in two ways. First, the OSDP is a theory about original substance from the viewpoint of the Unification Principle (or Divine Principle) which is a new truth, new word, or Completed Testament. It is a new theory, compared with traditional theories of original substance. Second, the OSDP is a theory about the root or origin of the Unification Principle or the Divine Principle, because it appeared as an extension of Original DP ( ODP, 1952.5.10), Explanation of DP ( EDP, 1957.8.15), and Exposition of DP ( DP, 1966.5.1). This paper will discuss the OSDP in various aspects. II. Outline of the Original Substance of the Divine Principle 1. Significance and Concept of Theory of Original Substance Concept of Substance and Original Substance In the Unification Principle the term substance is not God, who is the origin, but is 1

the creature of God. For example, in the DP substance of the intellect, separated from God (p.52). Yang sung, separated from the substance of God (p.53). In the Essential UT ( EUT ), substance is explained as a creature of God. In the DP there are many examples of substance: the substantial foundation, the substantial offering, the substantial temple, the visible substantial world, the invisible substantial world. In the DP, substance is being which is a creature of God. In this paper, we define the original substance as God, the creator and the first cause. Concept of the Theory of Original Substance TOS (Theory of OS) is a theory of original substance. Rev. Moon's speech volumes also explain TOS as a theory of God. For example, the philosophy of whether God exists or not, is a matter of the original substance. (Oct 30, 1982) TOS is about God. (Aug 31, 2008) TOS is to educate, or to tell about how God is like. (July 7, 2009) In EUT TOS is a theory to figure out God or the origin of the cosmos. (UT, p.158) Specifically, the Theory of the Original Image in the EUT is about the original substance. The first chapter of the True God in the new CSG is about original substance. The doctrine of God in systematic theology is about original substance. Consequently, the original substance is the origin of all substances or beings, so that all existence in the created world includes the character of original substance. Significance of Original Substance and the Theory of Original Substance Original substance is the origin of all beings or substances, values and laws. Therefore, through the original substance we establish the origin of all things. Through the original substance we can unify the laws involved in all beings; we can unify various laws of existence. Through the original substance we can establish the origin of all purposiveness of existence; then, we can unify various purposes of existence. Through the original substance we can establish the origin of all values; then it is possible to unify all values. Through the original substance the purpose of all religions is established; and religions can be unified. To establish the origin of all sciences, for example, natural sciences, social sciences, art, athletics, etc. can be unified by original substance. Through the original substance it is possible to establish the origin of all the systems, for example, politics, economics, society, culture, art, etc., then all systems must be unified. Atheism, materialism, evolutionism, and agnosticism can be overcome. In EUT the significance of original substance is emphasized. Original substance is the foundation of philosophical systems. 2. Traditional Theories of Original Substance Limits of Traditional Theories of Original Substance Thales regards water, Pythagoras sees numbers, Augustine and Aquinas see God, Hegel regards Absolute Spirit, Schopenhauer considers Unconditional Will, Nietzche sees the Power of Will, Marx holds material, Oriental Thought sees Li-Ch I, etc. (UT, pp.158-164) Rev. Moon pointed out the limits of traditional theories of original substance. Philosophies did not solve the matter of original substance, whether God 2

exists, who God is, etc.(june 18, 1989) Philosophers speak about substances centering on the human being, not in view of the absolute.(feb 11, 1971) It is wrong to mention the thought centering on human beings without God who is the original substance.(dec 30, 1980) In EUT it is pointed out that the traditional theories of original substance focused on the intellect, will, concept and material, and did not figure starting for the nature of God. (UT, p.165) Appearance and mission of new TOS Traditional theories of original substance were limited in finding clearly about original substance. So, we need a new TOS. This is because with traditional theories of original substance it is impossible to solve the various complicated, historical, global problems. Therefore, to solve all problems fundamentally, it is required that we have a true TOS. A true TOS should not be contradictory with scientific knowledge about nature. There are several missions which the true, new TOS must solve. First, the new TOS should reveal God s existence and uniqueness. The new TOS must explain clearly the unique, absolute God. Then, absolute and universal fundamental values can be established. Second, the new TOS should reveal the characteristics and creativity of God. The new TOS should reveal the nature of God, the motive of creation, the purpose of creation and the love of creation, so that we can then explain that purpose of creation and laws of creation governs motion of all things in the universe. Third, the new TOS must reveal God s providence and solve all problems in view of the providence. Fourth, the new TOS must unify all the religions centering on God, the original substance, and the first cause. The new TOS must reveal the whole story of God, and explain that all the religions are sibling religions from God. 3. The Original Substance of the Divine Principle (OSDP) Background for the OSDP At HDH on Aug. 31, 2008, the background of the appearance of the OSDP was wellexplained. True Father said that we already have ODP (1952.5.10), EDP (1957.8.15) and DP (1966.5.1), and now we need OSDP. True Father also said that there must be a theory of the Original Image after the OSDP. Even if we know the OSDP, we must know the internal God which is something growing inside of God and coming out from God. (Jan 4, 2009) After the OSDP there will be a theory of the original image. Definition and main contents of the OSDP The OSDP can be defined from two perspectives. Here, DP(Divine Principle) means the Unification Principle, and also it means new truth, new word, and Completed Testament. OSDP is different from traditional theories of original substance. Original substance is 3

the origin of substances, or the origin of beings. Therefore, TOS is a theory about the original substance. It depends on the perspectives from which one sees original substance. There may be many theories about original substance. For example, Christian TOS, Judaic TOS, Buddhist TOS, philosophical TOS, scientific TOS, etc. First, OSDP is a theory about the original substance in the view of the Divine Principle(or Unification Principle). Because the Divine Principle(or Unification Principle) is a new truth and revelation of God, OSDP is a new theory of original substance in view of new truth. OSDP will overcome the limitations of traditional theories of original substance from new perspectives. Second, OSDP is an extension of scriptures such as ODP, EDP and DP. ODP is the original text of the Divine Principle (or Unification Principle). EDP is the explanatory text of the Divine Principle (or Unification Principle). DP is the lecture text of the Divine Principle (or Unification Principle). But OSDP is talking about the fundamental root from which the Divine Principle stems.(jan 29, 2010) EDP is a theory about how to explain the Divine Principle, DP is a theory how to educate about the Divine Principle, and OSDP is a theory about original substance.(dec 26, 2008) In this sense, OSDP is a theory about the origin of the Divine Principle. III. Contents of the OSDP (1): General Perspective OSDP (1): Concept of Original Substance The first theme of the OSDP is the standpoint of the Unification Principle on the concept of the original substance. The Unification Principle says that there must be an origin for all existence, visible or invisible. There are many complex laws and values which are inherent, universal, invariable and well-balanced in the world. These features are never accidental or coincidental. The Unification Principle designates this original substance, which is the origin of all things, as God. In Rev. Moon's speech volumes there are many examples explaining God as original substance. For example, God is the original substance of creatures, the created world and the cosmos. God is the original substance of shimjung, true love, truth, word and laws. God is the original substance of mind, conscience, emotion, intellect, will and truth, beauty and goodness. God is the original substance of life and blood lineage. God is the original substance of power, energy, dual characteristics and ability. God is also the original substance of ideal happiness, hope and glory. OSDP (2): Existence of God The Unification Principle reveals that God, the original substance or the first cause, absolutely exists. Historically, many theologians, philosophers and scientists have discussed the existence of God. Until now there were five traditional arguments about the existence of God: the ontological argument, cosmological argument, teleological argument, moral argument and personal experience. However, atheists and agnostics, and even theists, have expressed opinions pro and con about these arguments. I propose that we need to prove, in a more comprehensive manner, the existence of God from the viewpoint of the Unification Principle. In the Unification Principle all 4

beings are derived from the true love, Logos and pre-energy(or universal prime force) of God. Here, true love is the fundamental, essential center of the Logos and preenergy. All substances or beings include elements of true love, Logos and of preenergy. Therefore, I propose proving the existence of God by arguing that true love, Logos and pre-energy do not come contingently, coincidentally, voluntarily, or temporally, but must appear for a certain reason. There must be a design connected with values, laws and reason. All beings hold universal and individual aspects of true love, Logos and pre-energy. Here, Logos includes ISS (emotion, intellect, will) and IHS (idea, concept, law, mathematical principle). ISS is the origin of purposiveness which is beauty, truth and goodness, or freedom, peace, unification and happiness. IHS is the origin of laws which are DC(dual characteristics), GTA(give and take action), ODUA(origin-division-union action), 4PF(four position foundation), 3GB(3 great blessings), mathematical principle and universality. Therefore, through true love, Logos and pre-energy, we can discuss issues in nine different ways. For example, arguments through true love, arguments through purposiveness, arguments through DC, arguments through GTA, arguments through ODUA, arguments through 4PF, arguments through 3GB, arguments through mathematical principle, and arguments through material. I distinguish these arguments for seven categories, which are the universe, material, life, consciousness, history, spirit world, and True Parents. The universe includes energy, time and space. Material includes string, elementary particles, atoms, molecules and substance (solid matter, liquid matter, gas, and plasma). Life includes DNA, cells, plants and animals. Consciousness includes humanity, social science and art. History includes human history and natural history. Spirit world includes spirits, angels, spiritual material, spiritual time and space, spiritual energy and spiritual phenomena. Finally, True Parents are ideal human beings, who are substantialized ideally from true love, Logos and power. So, arguments about the existence of God are possible through discussing the universe, materials, life, consciousness, history, spirit world, and True Parents. Here, if we consider the nine arguments and seven categories together, we arrive at a numbers of ways to argue for God s existence. Actually, the traditional five arguments are involved in those arguments. I argue that the universe and elementary particles of modern physics can be used to prove God s existence from these nine perspectives. OSDP (3): Attributes of God What attributes does God, the original substance, possess? The reason why people believe in the same God but are separated into many denominations is due to the differences in understanding the attributes of God. In EUT the significance of God's attributes is emphasized. It is possible to solve various problems by understanding correctly the attributes of God. As a matter of fact, the foundation and starting point of EUT is the divine image, which is the TOS. In some sense, UT is a theoretical system based on the attributes of God. In EUT the attributes of God are explained in Section 1, Contents of the 5

Original Image, and the Existing Image and Status of God are explained in Section 2, Structure of the Original Image. I distinguish the attributes of God as attributes of OSS and attributes of OHS from the viewpoint of dual characteristics. Attributes of OSS are attributes of the mind of God(heavenly mind). Attributes of OHS are the body of God (pre-energy). The center of the attributes of OSS and OHS is true love (shimjung). EUT defines the attributes of the OSS in two ways: the attributes of ISS(I, E, W) and the attributes of IHS(concept, laws, ideas, math principles). Again EUT defines OHS in two parts: infinite potentiality and material element. Infinite potentiality is related to the wave nature of matter and the material element is related to the particle nature of matter. I propose to divide OHS attributes as OSS(outer SS, infinite potentiality) attribute and OHS(outer HS, material element) attribute in comparison with the ISS and IHS. God s attributes included the OSS attribute (mind, heavenly mind) and the OHS attribute (body, universal prime energy). Therefore, if we divide these two attributes, we arrive at the four kinds of God s attributes: attributes of ISS, IHS, OSS and OHS. OSDP (4): God s Feature and Position How does God, who is the original substance, relate with all beings and the created world? In Protestantism it is emphasized that God is absolute, unique, unchanging, eternal, self-existing and omnipresent. Moreover, God has the position of the Creator of all beings and the world. OSDP explains these features in a more diverse, systematic manner. I understand God s features from the perspective of the characteristics and mutual relationships of God s attributes. First, God is a personal God and God has features of omnipotence and omniscient from the viewpoint of the OSS attribute. In other words, God has true love, heart, emotion, intellect, will, and God is omnipotent within God s law. Second, God is invisible and omnipotent from the viewpoint of the OHS attribute. In other words, God is transcendent and invisible beyond energy, time, space and matter limitations, because God s OSS is composed of both infinite potentiality and the material element. Because God's OHS is pre-energy, within which infinite potentiality and material element are integrated, God is self-existing, and exists omnipresently. Third, God s attributes have mutual relationships due to DC(dual characteristics), GTA(give and take action), ODUA and the 4PF. This is why God has characteristics of invariance, eternity, absoluteness, mutual relativity and harmony. Fourth, God has the feature of unity and harmony because God s attributes maintain unification and harmony among themselves. In other words, the ISS attributes maintain unification and harmony within themselves, and God s OSS attributes also maintain unification and harmony within themselves. Moreover, the OSS attribute and OHS attribute maintain mutual harmony. Therefore, we can understand the feature of the unity and harmony of God. Fifth, there exists the same attributes within all beings, or substances. This indicates that all substances come from one source. Because the origin is only one God, the origin of substances, or the first cause, is oneness. God is unique. OSDP explains about God s position differently from traditional theories about the 6

original substance. Of course, God is creator, as the substance of all beings. Also, God is the manager or ruler of all beings. But, OSDP emphasizes the role of God as true parent, since God has the relationship of parent-child, centering on true love. Therefore, God has the position of True Parent (vertical and invisible parent) and human beings have the position of true children of God. The parent-child relationship between God and human beings is the essential core of OSDP. This point is quite different from traditional theories of original substance. Those traditional concepts, such as the ideal of creation, the human portion of responsibility, the human fall, Messiah, restoration of history, physical and spiritual rebirth, etc. have intimate connections with the parent-child relationship between God and human beings. God and ideal human beings have oneness in heart, and oneness in true love. Such a person can be the substance of God, as the body, temple and image of God. We apply the term True Parents of Heaven, Earth and Humankind (True Parents of HEH) to parents who are one mind, one body, one mindset and one harmony with God. Therefore, the invisible God can have substance and can manifest Himself completely through the True Parents of HEH. Having ideal substance God can reveal Himself completely, as in the daylight. Thus, we call Him the God of Day. Only when we become True Parents of HEH can human beings be substantial being of God. OSDP (5): God s Creative Activity OSDP emphasizes God s creative activity through true love, Logos and preenergy(universal prime force). God, the original substance, does not remain alone but creates His object of joy, through the attributes of true love and heart. God created with the mind of absolute faith, absolute love and absolute obedience, but traditional theories of original substance do not consider these points. God created all beings by purposiveness and laws, which exist in the Logos. Therefore, the birth of the universe and the formation of matter cannot happen accidentally or spontaneously, without any plan or purpose. This is the standpoint or view of OSDP on creation. Before creation, God set up a plan and design which have a clear purpose and lawful nature. According to this plan and design God created the physical world and the spirit world, and the universe and matter, including human beings. God created His substance through true love, Logos and pre-energy. Pre-energy(or universal prime force) was substantialized into spiritual energy and physical energy. Thereafter, spiritual time, space and matter, and physical time, space and matter, and eventually the spiritual world and physical world were formed. According to the plan, then the design, and then the substantialization, through three stages (plan design substance), God created Logos first and then created substance. EUT explains this process as two steps of creation. The first step is the creation of the Logos, or Word, which is the internal step of the plan. The second step is the formation of the universe and matter, by combining the Logos and pre-energy. This is the external step in creating substance. All substances created by God, the original substance, will participate in realizing the ideal of creation, according to the purpose and law of creation. The ideal world of creation is a world centered on God, through true love and Logos, and having the structure and system of the 3 great blessings. This world is a world wherein spirit world and physical world achieve unification and harmony, namely a unified nation of 7

universal peace, called CIG(Cheon Il Guk). CIG is a world of co-existence, coprosperity, and shared values, and a world of absolute values such as beauty, truth and goodness, centered on true love. Also, CIG is a world of true freedom, peace, unification, happiness and joy. OSDP (6): The Sorrow and Suffering of God Traditional theories of original substance do not have concern for God s suffering or sorrow. On the other hand, OSDP explains that God has experienced extreme suffering, sorrow, unhappiness and loneliness due to the human fall. In other words, God is in agony because the world of true love and Logos, the world of beauty, truth and goodness, the world of unification, peace, happiness and joy, the world of coexistence, co-prosperity and shared values, the world of one family under God, and the Kingdom of Heaven in heaven and on earth, was not realized. First, God could not take His rightful position as the original substance, creator and parent. Instead, He lost sovereignty and the ideal of creation. God was disconnected from fallen human beings, and His existence, His creation and providence rejected by fallen human beings. Second, God has historical agony and suffering. In other words, due to the fall of human beings, God was deprived of His position of parent, by Satan, through false life, false love and false lineage. Thus, God has been suffering due to shock and sorrow, due to the loss of His children. In other words, God s eternal children were taken away by Satan, and, throughout human history, He could not help but watch, with agony, the miserable situation of His fallen children. Third, God has been in a prison, due to fallen humankind and the fallen world. In other words, God was deprived of freedom, peace, unification, happiness and joy, and instead has been confined in prison. Fourth, God could not judge, or condemn Satan, even though He has been accused by Satan. God created all beings through true love and Logos, and has sought for dominion and management through true love and Logos. Therefore, God cannot cooperate with, or judge, or condemn Satan of false love. The sad and sorrowful world God created is a world of sin, suffering, conflict, fighting and sadness. This world is a world of cosmic hell, on earth and in heaven, as well as a world of Satanic sovereignty in the spirit world and the physical world. Also, this world is a world of the 3 great blessings in structure, but centered on Satan rather than God, and a world of false love, false life, and false lineage, all centered on Satan. OSDP (7): God s Providence OSDP emphasizes the ceaseless providence of restoration throughout human history to cleanse promiscuity and to dissolve conflict and struggle, finally realizing the original ideal of creation. Human history is a restorational history of the providence to restore God s kingdom centered on True Parents. It is a history of re-creation through true love and Logos. Traditional theories of original substance do not emphasize these points. Throughout the history of restoration God wanted to be completely liberated from prison and 8

to restore His sovereignty and the ideal of creation. God has invested sincerity and effort throughout human history in order to restore the original ideal of creation and His loving children. OSDP emphasizes that the beginning, the process, and the goal of human history are to settle and complete the substantial CIG, centering only on God s true love and Logos. This is the general conclusion of God s providence, and at the same time this is the life of True Parents of HEH, who are the substance of God. The providence of restoration is a re-creational providence, according to the law of restoration. In other words, God restores through predestination, indemnity, cleansing of fallen natures and sins, the Messiah, rebirth, resurrection and consummation. IV. Contents of OSDP (2): The Original Perspective and Restorational Perspective The original perspective and restoration perspective are perspectives, by which to consider God in view of the original standpoint before the human fall, and the restorational standpoint after the human fall, respectively. God in view of the Original Perspective The original perspective is a perspective of the original creation before the fall. I propose seven points concerning the original perspective, including God, True Parents, CIG, true love, Logos, 3GB(3 great blessings) and a cosmic family under God. OSDP has comprehensive perspectives on God. First, in view of God, God is the original substance. God is the original substance of all beings, visible and invisible. God is the original substance of all values, laws, and beings. OSDP claims the original substance is God. Second, in view of True Parents, God manifests Himself through the True Parents of HEH. God is the center of True Parents of HEH. God becomes the God of Day through True Parents of HEH. God is True Parents of humankind. The True Parents of HEH are the substance (child, body, holy temple, image) and make one mind, one body, one mindset and one harmony with God. Plus, they maintain oneness in heart and in love. Third, in view of CIG, God is the source and origin of CIG. Also, God is the creator, the supreme sovereign of CIG, and the center and the focal point of CIG. On the other hand, CIG is God s nation and the substance of God, consisting of God s sovereignty, people, territory and various systems. Fourth, in view of true love, God is the original substance of true love, and God s creative works and providence are because of true love. The motivation of God's creative activities and providential activities is true love. Because God is the origin of the four types of true love, God is the origin of children s, sibling, conjugal and parental love. On the other hand, true love is the most supreme attribute of God, the most important attribute of God. True love is the center and the foundation of God s attributes. Also, true love is the cosmic principle for God s creation and providence. Fifth, in view of Words, God is the original substance and owner of Logos. God is the origin, center and focal point of truth, and of all sciences. Also, God is the center and 9

focal point of Logos, truth, and the sciences. On the other hand, Logos is the blueprint and the plan for God s creation. Logos is formed by God s OSS. In other words, Logos is formed through the combination of God s ISS and IHS. That is the inner developmental 4PF. Sixth, in view of the 3GB(the three great blessings), God is the original substance and owner of the 3GB. God has created and conducted His providence centered on the 3GB. So, God is the center and the focal point of the 3GB. On the other hand, the 3GB are the structure and the system of God s kingdom, and the goal of God s creation and providence. Also, in the 3GB, God s purpose of creation, law of creation, and ideal of creation, are included. So, God dwells at the center of the first, second, and third blessings. Seventh, in view of the cosmic family under God, God is the original substance and owner of one family under God. Also, God is the center and focal point of one family under God, including earthly people and spirits. On the other hand, the cosmic family under God is the grand, big family including earthly people and spirits, centered on God. They are the final goal of God s creation and providence. God in view of Restorational Perspective The restorational perspective is a perspective of restoration, commencing after the fall. I propose seven point concerning the restorational perspective, including predestination, fall, restoration, Messiah, rebirth, resurrection and consummation. In view of the restorational perspective OSDP also connotes unique views on God. First, in view of predestination, God realizes His ideal of creation through predestination. God takes 100% responsibility for absolute predestination, and is the center of relative predestination (95%). God conducts His creative and providential activities according to predestination. On the other hand, predestination stems from God s true love and Logos. Predestination realizes and maintains God s kingdom. Second, in view of the human fall, God's existence and attributes were rejected, and His creation and providence were rejected, by the human fall. God could not become the God of Day due to the fall. The God of Night and the God of Day came to be in conflict. But, God will cleanse the fallen world, hell on earth and in heaven. On the other hand, the fall gave God incredible sadness, suffering, agony, and shock. Also, the fall made God lose His ideal of creation, and it became the cause as to why God should conduct His providence of restoration. Third, in view of restoration, God is the original substance and owner of restoration, and the providence of restoration. God is the supreme sovereign and manager of restoration and the providence of restoration. Also, God is the center and focal point of restoration and the providence of restoration. On the other hand, restoration should liberate God and restore God s ideal of creation. The history of providential restoration is conducted by God s true love and Logos. Fourth, in view of Messiah, God is the original substance and owner of the Messiah. God conducts His providential activities and re-creational providence, centered on the Messiah. So, God leads effort to establish the Foundation for the Messiah and sends the Messiah on that foundation. On the other hand, the Messiah is the supreme ideal of God and should realize the ideal of True Parents of God. The Messiah receives the 10

seal from God. The Messiah have the value and the mission of a child, substance, holy temple, image, and the representative of God. Fifth, in view of rebirth, God is the original substance and owner of rebirth. God is the center and focal point of rebirth, and the providence of rebirth. On the other hand, rebirth is the first step for God s providence of restoration, and should involve both spiritual rebirth and physical rebirth by God s OSS and OHS. Six, in view of resurrection, God is the original substance and owner of resurrection. God conducts the providence of re-creation through resurrection and God is the center, focal point, and manager of resurrection and the providence of resurrection. On the other hand, resurrection is the process of restoring God s kingdom. The final goal of resurrection is to enter the direct dominion of God. The resurrection should be both spiritual resurrection and physical resurrection, in virtues of God s OSS and OHS. Seven, in view of consummation, God is the original substance and owner of the providence of consummation. God is the center and focal point of the providence of consummation. On the other hand, consummation is the final goal of God s providence of restoration. Human history, centered on Satan, Satanic sovereignty, and the Satancentered 3GB, should conclude. Otherwise, we cannot realize God s ideal of creation. V. DP and EUT in view of OSDP What is the relationship between OSDP and DP (Exposition of DP)? OSDP is a theory of the original substance in view of the Unification Principle, which is a new truth and a new word. Also, OSDP is a theory about the original substance which is the root of the Unification Principle. However, DP is a theory as to how to give a lecture on the Unification Principle in general. It is a theory of lecturing the Unification Principle itself. In the Unification Principle, there are not only God, the first cause, but also many other contents about human beings, all things, and the existing world, which are not God Himself. In other words, in the Unification Principle there are contents about the human fall, which are not directly related to God, and human activities and historical events which are conducted apart from God s providence of restoration. Also, DP, from the General Introduction to the Second Coming, does not explain all themes from God s perspective. Instead, DP is a Scripture having a theoretical system by which to give lectures on the various themes of the Unification Principle, not just about God. But OSDP is more focused on God, Himself. EUT (Essentials of UT) also does not explain all the themes in view of God, or God Himself. Instead, EUT deals with many topics in philosophy, and analyzes and systematizes these topics in view of the Unification Principle. Chapter 8 discusses God s providence in comparison to general philosophical perspectives, but the other chapters address the attributes of God, the purpose of creation, the law of creation, and the process of creation by God, directly or indirectly. In that sense, the EUT is different from OSDP. VI. Conclusion In this paper we have noted the concept and significance of the original substance, and 11

the theory of the original substance. Also, we discussed the limitations of traditional theories of original substance, and the background and mission of the new theory of original substance. Also, we discussed the providential background, definition and important content of OSDP. Also, we mentioned the differences between OSDP and the traditional theories of original substance. We define OSDP from two perspectives. First, OSDP is a theory of the original substance in view of the Unification Principle, which is new truth, new word, and the completed testament. Second, OSDP is a theory about the original substance of the Unification Principle itself. The former is a concept in comparison with traditional theories of original substances. The latter is a concept in comparison with Original DP (1952.5.10), Explanation of DP (1957.8.15), Exposition of DP (1966.5.1). However, those two views are a theory about the original substance. Accordingly, OSDP is not a system for discussing the same themes of Exposition of DP, because OSDP is the origin or root of the Unification Principle. Original DP is a Scripture, serving as the origin or root of the Unification Principle. Explanation of DP is a Scripture focusing on explaining the Unification Principle. Exposition of DP is a Scripture focusing on giving lectures of the Unification Principle. So, Original DP, Exposition of DP, and Exposition of DP do not discuss God only, but other themes of the Unification Principle, as well. In this paper, we discussed God, the original substance, in view of certain general perspectives, the original perspective and the restorational perspective. In the general perspective, we discussed seven points, including the concept of original substance, the existence of God, the attributes of God, the features and position of God, the creative activities of God, the suffering of God, and the providence of God. In the original perspective, we discussed seven points, including the relationship between the original substance and God, God and True Parents, God and CIG, God and true love, God and the words, God and the three great blessings, and God and the cosmic family under God. In the restorational perspective, we discussed seven points, including God and predestination, God and the fall, God and restoration, God and the Messiah, God and rebirth, God and resurrection, and God and the consummation. In the end, we discussed the relation between the OSDP and the Exposition of DP and EUT. I expect this study to contribute to overcoming the limitations of traditional theories of original substance, such as the theological TOS, the religious TOS, the philosophical TOS, and the scientific TOS.
