St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church Parish Council Meeting October 26, 2017 Parish Life Center Volunteer Hours: 13 Call to Order: A monthly meeting of the Parish Council was held in the Education Building, room 2 on October 26, 2017. The meeting convened at 6:34 pm. Chairperson Mary Soparas presiding and Lee Ann Molini recording the minutes. Ad Hoc Ministry Reports: Finance- No Report Communications Gina. o The Podcast is up and running. o The Clergy Corner has been added to the website and will be posted on the main page and archived for several months. o Gina has asked that those interested in learning how to enter items to the website contact her for training. o A permanent committee is being formed to work on the website.
o For those needing pop-up banners for activities and functions Gina is the point of contact and will order them per requests. Hispanic Ministry no report Vietnamese Ministry Thuy o Thanh Tran was introduced to the Parish Council as the chair of the Vietnamese ministry. o The in-home prayer ministry began this past month. Sixteen parishioners participated. o Eucharistic Adoration will be the first Tuesday of the month starting on Dec 5, 2017, day chapel, 8 pm to 10 pm. During the first hour, the rosary will be prayed and there will be singing, the second hour will be silence for personal prayer. Standing Ministry Reports Facility---Matt. o About 24 volunteers attended the recent Work Day. o Rental machinery was used around the pond site. The equipment was evaluated as to whether to rent or purchase it. The committee recommends that the equipment be rented. The pond area will probably require the use of this machinery several times per year. o The next work day will be scheduled for January 2018. Education and Evangelization Emily. o The women s retreat is scheduled January 26-27, 2018. The speaker has been identified. o It has been necessary to cut back the Edge program. The program will only be on the 1 st Friday of each month. o There is a critical need for adults to volunteer to assist with youth programs this year. o The catechist certification program is on track to begin early in 2018. Parish Life Cathy.
o The parishioners who attended the parish picnic enjoyed the day, and the youth enjoyed the games and activities. The troop dinner and Thanksgiving dinner are being planned and the sign-up sheets are in the Parish Life Center. Parishioners are asked to bring side dishes. o Paula reported that the next Welcome Reception is scheduled for Nov 12. There are 75 new families that are being contacted and invited to attend. Stewardship Peter. o Parishioners who attended the Time and Talent weekend and signed up to become members of ministries are being contacted to ensure that they had been approached by their chosen ministry and that they have no further questions. Worship Ruth. o Additional ladies are needed to clean alter linens. o There is a new sound system as well as a new portable PA system in place. o Larry reported that there were about 40-50 animals in attendance for the annual Blessing of the Animals. Old Business: STA 50 th Anniversary. o Parishioners are being asked to give feedback and suggestions related to the items to be placed in the Time Capsule. The overall plan for the anniversary year will be released by Christmas. IOP o Timeline of events: Oct. 21/22. Fr. Ingram gave his presentation at all Masses. Oct. 23. Brochures and commitment cards were mailed to parishioners. Oct. 28/29. Commitment weekend will have lay speakers at each Mass.
Commitment Cards to be collected, catalogued by Mary and Deacon Joe, then sent to OSV through December 11 for statistical analysis. SHOW o The plan has been sent to the Columbia County Sheriffs Dept. for review. In November, there will be a walk-through on our church campus. o A plan has been written and is posted in the Usher s room for the emergency care of parishioners and/ or incidents occurring during Mass. o Medical professionals are being asked to notify the ushers and greeters of their attendance at Mass and their willingness to assist in case of an emergency. November Luminary Ceremony o Luminaries and torches are on sale for the Luminary Ceremony scheduled for November 1 st, following the Trilingual Mass. There will be approximately 700 luminaries lighting the way from the church to the Columbarium. Some aspects of the Relay for Life program are being converted to Ribbons of Hope which focuses on local STA parishioners and their needs. New Business: Angel Tree--Mary o The STA staff will set up and organize the Angel Tree which will stand in the Parish Life Center. The dates that parishioners may participate in the activity are Nov 25-Dec 17. C4 Committee Mary o The C4 committee is requesting assistance in selling the Christmas ornaments/mementos. Any group who is setting up to sell items is asked to also provide the opportunity for parishioners to purchase these items as well. Fallen Knights Mass
o The Mass for fallen KOC members is scheduled for Friday, Nov 3. The Mass is open to all parishioners. KOC State Soccer challenge o The KOC State Soccer challenge is scheduled for Nov 18, and will be held in Rincon, Ga. There are about 7 boys and girls to attend from STA.
