FOUNDATIONS (Hebraic Roots) The Bible Contains total books? 66 Total Books: 39 Old Testament (TaNaKh 1. Torah (Teaching), 2. Prophets (Nevi im) 3. Writings (K tuvim) 27 in the New Testament (B rit Hadashah) Hadashah is Re-newed like the Moon How many different authors, inspired by the Holy Spirit (Ruach hakodesh), wrote the Bible? FOUNDATIONS (Hebraic Roots) Our Interpretation of the Word is challenged we adapt what we read to fit our current reality. The Challenge of Time The Bible was written over 2,000 years ago The Challenge of Distance Israel is over 6,000 miles away The Challenge of Culture Middle-Eastern Culture difference (Luke 15 The Two Brothers: 1 st Born) The Challenge of Language Hebrew Alef-Bet (22 Consonants) Hebrew Idioms (Evil Eye Mt. 6) Page 3
PaRDeS (Hebraic Roots) The Rabbis and Sages used the following interpretation method (exegesis) in their Torah (first five books) study: P shat - the plain" "simple" or the direct meaning. Remez - "a hint" or the deep (allegoric: hidden or symbolic) meaning beyond just the literal sense. Like connecting the dots through scripture. Drash - to inquire" "seek" the comparative meaning, as given through similar occurrences. This would be like a sermon on how the Word applies to our lives today. Sod - "secret" "mystery" or the hidden meaning, as given through inspiration or revelation. This is the golden nugget the casual reader will not see. Page 4
PaRDeS (Hebraic Roots) Interesting Note: Many call this interpretation method PaRDeS based on the acronym. The Hebrew word pardes means orchard or garden and is used in the Talmud as a description for the Garden of Eden, which was PaRaDiSe formed from the same acronym. EXAMPLE (Genesis 22) P shat Ha Akeida ( The Binding ) of Isaac by Abraham to be sacrificed. Remez (v.2) Mt. Moriyah; (v.3) Two witnesses; (v.8) God will provide himself, a lamb ; Drash - Place our trust (faith) in God and He will provide. Sod - The Shemology of Nahor s Sons (v. 20-24) Page 5
The Sod Genesis 22 Verse 20: Some time later Abraham was told, Milkah is also a mother; she has borne sons to your brother Nahor: 21 Uz the firstborn, Buz his brother, Kemuel (the father of Aram), 22 Kesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph and Bethuel. 23 Bethuel became the father of Rebekah. Milkah bore these eight sons to Abraham s brother Nahor. 24 His concubine, whose name was Reumah, also had sons: Tebah, Gaham, Tahash and Maakah. Uz Counselor; Buz Judge; Kemuel God Raised; Kesed Loving Kindeness; Hazo seen, as in a vision; Pildash pierced [with metal fittings]; Jidlaph weeping Bethuel pure man of God; Tebah slaughtered one Gaham burns [like a flame]; Tahash beneath the skins [mishkan - tabernacle]; Ma akah squeezed between SHEMOLOGY: The Counselor and Judge which God raised up in loving kindness, in a vision is seen pierced with nails [metal fittings]. Weeping, the pure man of God is the slaughtered one. However, He will burn like a flame beneath the skins [in the Tabernacle] where He sits in between [the cherubim on the Ark Is. 37:16]. Page 6

FOUNDATIONS (Days, Months, Years) Genesis 1:14,16, 19 (CJB) God said, Let there be lights ( מ א ר ת Me orot from Maor Strong s 3974)in the dome of the sky to divide the day from the night; let them be for signs, seasons, days and years; 16 God made the two great lights the larger light to rule the day and the smaller light to rule the night and the stars... 19 So there was evening, and there was morning, a fourth day. Take Away: The Sun and Moon are for: Signs Seasons / Months (Moon circles the Earth) Days (Earth rotates 1 time on its axis) Years (Earth rotates 1 time around the Sun) Interesting Question: On what day did God create Light? Day 1: Let there be Light. Day 4: Sun, Moon, ad Stars Some scholars have interpreted Genesis 1:3 as, Let Him who is, be Light." Page 8

MOEDIM HA ELOHIM (The Appointed Days of God) 1. Pesach Monday (sunset) 4/14/2014 4/15/2014 Passover or the Feast of Freedom Israel (Ex. 12:21-24) 21 Then Moses summoned all the elders of Israel and said to them, Go at once and select the animals for your families and slaughter the Passover lamb. 22 Take a bunch of hyssop, dip it into the blood in the basin and put some of the blood on the top and on both sides of the doorframe. None of you shall go out of the door of your house until morning. 23 When the Lord goes through the land to strike down the Egyptians, he will see the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe and will pass over that doorway, and he will not permit the destroyer to enter your houses and strike you down. Jesus Fulfillment (John 1:29; Mt. 27:35-36) The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! 35 When they had crucified him, they divided up his clothes by casting lots. 36 And sitting down, they kept watch over him there. Page 13

He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb and went away Page 14
MOEDIM HA ELOHIM (The Appointed Days of God) 3. Yom ha Bikkurim The Day of First Fruits [of Barley] Israel (Lev. 23:9-11) Thanksgiving for the First Harvest 9 The Lord said to Moses, 10 Speak to the Israelites and say to them: When you enter the land I am going to give you and you reap its harvest, bring to the priest a sheaf of the first grain you harvest. 11 He is to wave the sheaf before the Lord so it will be accepted on your behalf; the priest is to wave it on the day after the Sabbath. Jesus Fulfillment (Mt. 28:1,5-6; I Cor. 15:20) 28 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb 5 The angel said to the women, Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. 20 But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. Page 15
MOEDIM HA ELOHIM (The Appointed Days of God) 4. Shavuot The Feast of Weeks First Fruit of Wheat / Pentecost (Count) Israel (Ex. 34:10; Lev. 23:15-16) Moses given the Ten Commandments 10 Then the Lord said: I am making a covenant with you. Before all your people I will do wonders never before done in any nation in all the world. The people you live among will see how awesome is the work that I, the Lord, will do for you. Jesus sends the Ruach Ha Kodesh (Holy Spirit) Acts 2:1-4 2 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Like the Commandments, The Holy Spirit gives us direction. Page 16
