PRAYER BEFORE DIVINE WORSHIP Blessed Lord, You have caused all Holy Scriptures to be written for our learning. Grant that we may so hear them, read, mark, learn and inwardly digest them that, by patience and comfort of Your Holy Word, we may embrace and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. ORDER OF DIVINE WORSHIP (Please silence your cell phones and mobile devices during our worship time. Our 10:30am worship service is live-streamed on the World Wide Web. Therefore, we consider your child/ren coming forward for the Children s Message as parental permission to publicly share their image.) Pre-service Music Welcome and Announcements Opening Hymn: As the Deer 1. As the deer panteth for the water, so my soul longeth after Thee. You alone are my heart s desire, and I long to worship Thee. Refrain: You alone are my strength, my shield; To you alone may my spirit yield. You alone are my heart s desire and I long to worship Thee. 2. You re my friend and You are my brother even though you are a King. I love You more than any other, so much more than anything. {Refrain} 3. I want You more than gold or silver, only You can satisfy. You alone are the real joy giver and the apple of my eye. {Refrain} Words and Music by Martin Nystrom; 1984 by Marantha! Confession and Absolution (based on Psalm 130, ESV) Pastor: Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord! O Lord, hear my voice! Response: Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my pleas for mercy! Pastor: If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? Response: But with you there is forgiveness, that you may be feared. Pastor: The Psalmist says, I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope. Our hope is in the Lord. In accord with His Word of promise we confess our sins, knowing that if we confess our sins he is faithful and will forgive us. Most merciful God: Response: We confess that we are in bondage to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy upon us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen. Pastor: In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for his sake God forgives us all our sins. As a called and ordained servant of the Word, by Christ s authority and command, I therefore forgive you all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Response: Amen. Litany Response (based on Psalm 130, ESV) Pastor: My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning. Response: O Israel, hope in the Lord! Pastor: For with the Lord there is steadfast love, and with him is plentiful redemption. Response: And he will redeem Israel from all his iniquities. Song of Praise: In Christ Alone In Christ alone, my Hope is found, He is my Light, my Strength, my Song; This Cornerstone, this Solid Ground, firm through the fiercest drought and storm. What heights of love, what depths of peace, when fears are stilled, when strivings cease, My Comforter, my All in All, here in the love of Christ I stand. In Christ alone, who took on flesh, fullness of God in helpless Babe. This gift of love, and righteousness, scorned by the ones He came to save; 'Til on that cross, as Jesus died, the wrath of God, was satisfied, For every sin on Him was laid, here in the death of Christ I live. Page - 3 -
There in the ground, His body lay, Light of the World by darkness slain. Then bursting forth, in glorious day, up from the grave He rose again! And as He stands, in victory, sin's curse has lost its grip on me, For I am His, and He is mine, bought with the precious blood of Christ. No guilt in life, no fear in death, this is the power of Christ in me; From life's first cry, to final breath, Jesus commands my destiny. No power of hell, no scheme of Man, can ever pluck me from His hand, (PAUSE) 'Til He returns, or calls me home, here in the power of Christ I'll stand; Here in the power of Christ - I'll stand!
