Our desire is to know more tomorrow than we do today. Comments welcome. The History Of Sin Introduction Sins are the cause of most of manõs activity which make the daily news and determines the History of Mankind. It seems that sins are worst in the modern world, causing much more suffering, sorrow and death, being capable even of destroying the world and the Human Race. but the Bible records the origin of sin In Adam, who brought death to the human race and the activity of sins in NoahÕs Day which caused the destruction of the world and the sin of Israel which destroyed the Kingdom given by Moses. History reveals the activity of sin in the conflict between good and evil as far back as we can see, but only in Bible history do we have a source which seeks to explain events in reference to being sin or being righteous. We need to understand the origin and nature of sin if we are to understand itõs power and influence throughout manõs history. Sin is a very big word in our vocabulary and it may have any number of different meanings depending upon itõs use. It is mostly used in a Religious sense referring to God and His commandments, and becomes the term whereby any activity is defined as offensive to God and worthy of punishment. This is why you cannot call any social activity sin without being labeled a religious judge and why doing so is seen as bringing Religion into a matter of state citizenship. When social activity is a common error of failure or trespass it is viewed as Venal without punishment (a misdemeanor). But if someone should label that activity as sin it becomes Penal and a felony and means that he must also stand trial before God. When social activity is called sin, it is being evaluated according to the commandments of God and made a religious issue. This is why so many object to the use of the word sin to define civil offenses. Our civic laws in America are based on natural law as understood by religious law found in the Jewish Bible, therefore when one is broken it may be called sin. This means that sin is being defined by the Jewish and Christian religion which use the Commandments of God given to Moses to establish a basis for right and wrong or Sin and Righteousness. It means also that all man made civil law must be consistent with religious law or be changed. Only in America can there exist such a complex problem with sin. All other societies have only one religion in their origin which forms the basis for all civil law making it impossible to separate religion and remove sin from social and political activity. The British for example have the Anglican religion of the Bible which forms the basis for civil law with the King and Queen being the highest religious authority. All societies have based their social life upon their religion and do not seek to separate their lives from it Only America seeks to separate religion from social life and make its citizens subject to the Constitution rather than religion. The American Constitution is designed to keep any religion from influence in government activity while permitting God to have access to all of its citizens in social and religious activity. It is true that when you bring God into the equation you also bring in religion, but which religion since God is identified with all religion. The God of the Bible has not sponsored all the religions credited to Him. We may well contend for the faith of one religion over another, while neither is the product of the God of the Bible. The Bible is the testimony (record) of the God of Abraham who claims to be the Creator of all things, and the original sponsor of monotheism. Despite all the effort of AbrahamÕs God to teach monotheism and reverence for Himself alone, man continues to worship other Gods which he created as well as creating many religions, from the Word of God which spoke of one religion. Two thousand years after God spoke to Abraham,. Jesus spoke to AbrahamÕs descendent who claimed to teach the one true religion and warned them that their religious faith did not reflect the truth about God. Judaism produced many false precepts about the God of Abraham and today we see even more produced by Christianity about the God and Father of Jesus the Messiah of Israel. In this paper we will study the History and the nature of sin as defined in the Bible and hopefully have a better understanding of God, sin and religion. We will seek to show a difference in original sin and

Bible Study Notes; Oct. 2003 The History of Sin Page 2 of 2 national sins and our daily behavior, or in other words - The Sin of Adam, The Sin of Israel and The Sin of the World. THE SIN OF ADAM The word sin may be singular or plural without being spelled sins. AdamÕs sin is singular and one act of disobedience which brought death and mortality into the newly created species of homo sapiens. Jesus the second Adam never sinned even once, but was obedient in many things, resulting in plural righteousness, but it was only one act of righteousness which resulted in abolishing death and bringing in immortality. Death in the human race is not the result of the sins of mankind rather the sin of the first Adam who was created a living soul, not a dying mortal. Sin entered through one act of disobedience and death by sin passed into the seed of man mortalizing his offspring. Sin is simply disobedience, but how it originates and what it causes is very complex. Sin is personified by giving it characteristics like a person when we say that sin deceives or that sin kills, etc. When sin entered the human race it did so by deceiving Eve to eat and therefore die. Death is now in Eve but not in the human race. Eve had been taken out of Adam and given a womb capable of producing fruit, but no womb can produce fruit without conception from a seed and the nature of any fruit is determined by the planted or conceived seed. God had so designed the Creation that it would continue without further creation from the Creator personally. Every living thing would reproduce itself, plant life from germination of seed in the soil and Animal life from conception of seed in the womb. All reproduction would be, each of itõs own kind. This God- given ability of living things to reproduce is what allowed God to cease from the work of Creation. This is called a Sabbath, but while God is no longer creating, living things are germinating and procreating and multiplying their kind from the nature of life originally given to the seed by the Creator. Plant life germinates and soul life procreates. In plant life the seed can only determine the nature of the outer body or form because the fruit has no spirit, but in soul life the seed will determine both the kind of spirit and the kind of body. In soul life the Kind and nature of the spirit will determine the behavioral life of the soul. A soul is a compound element of both spirit and body and it is the kind and nature of the spirit that will determine the life on earth for that soul. The Creator has made each spirit compatible with itõs own body and designed to fulfill a specific purpose in itõs life cycle. If the spirit of one soul should wind up in the body of another soul there would be confusion but also it would make it impossible for that soul to fulfill the purpose of the Creator. If the spirit of a Giraffe was in the body of a Pig he would desire the tender leaves beyond his reach and never be content and satisfied with slop. It would also mean the extinction of the species because the pig would not only lust after the leaves on the tree but also desire to procreate with the Giraffe. We see such confusion in Homosexuality which is not a natural desire and would result in extinction of the Human Race. God had a purpose for every living thing that He created and gave to each the ability to fulfill the purpose, but did not give them the ability to fail in the purpose for which they were created. God also had a purpose for the Living Soul (I Corinthians 15:43) but He gave it the ability to disobey and fail in GodÕs purpose for itõs creation. Any such activity is called Sin and only this unique soul can sin. The living soul was to be the ruler for God over the entire creation (Hebrews 2:7 & 8). God set him over the works of His hand (Creation) and put everything under subjection to Him. God called the living soul man (or Adam) and gave him dominion over the creation to be GodÕs Vice Regent or Ruling Deputy King. With man just as previously with every living creature God had given a Spirit compatible with His purpose for the creature and also given each spirit a body compatible with itõs spirit. Only in this way could any creature be able to serve the Creator in His purpose. The spirit of man was given a body that was well capable of providing access to the created world in order for the spirit to do the will of God. The spirit of man was made in the image of the Creator who Himself was a spirit. This made man very unique from animal souls. It gave the spirit of man the capacity to be aware of God and a spiritual world (conscience) enabling him to communicate with spirits. This communion with God was necessary if man is to Rule the creation as well as to Rule himself. It is easy to see how communion is necessary to reign for God over the creation, how else would a

Bible Study Notes; Oct. 2003 The History of Sin Page 3 of 3 Deputy King know the will and purpose of his Lord the Creator. But the dominion of man relates also to himself the creature to whom the Creator desires to be a God. In this relationship of God and man there would be communion between the two resulting in worship, fellowship and service. Since God is a Spirit of love and man is capable of communion with God there will be love in their communication. Faith is vital to communication because each must Believe and Trust and Honor the other or else they cannot agree and walk together. The spirit of man which enables him to be God conscious also makes him capable of being self conscious and manõs will can determine where his spirit will focus. The spirit of man as originally breathed into a living soul was in union with the spirit of the Creator making it possible not only to commune but for the likeness of the Creator to be reflected in the life of the creature. As with all of creation which would declare the Glory of God by fulfilling itõs purpose the living soul likewise would reflect the work of God provided he was led by God. All things created prior to man could only testify to the work of God before the Sabbath Day. While man is given the personal spirit of the Creator which would allow the Creator to continue activity on the seventh day after creation is complete. The Celestial bodies in the Heavens and the Terrestrial bodies on earth would continue to speak for the Creator as they did what they were designed to do. They would declare the wisdom and power and ability of God but not His nature which is Love, Mercy and Long suffering. Only man has the ability to permit God to continue working after creation is finished. All the glory of God from those things created before man are a testimony to God of that which He did when He was creating. but man has the responsibility to allow God to work in and through him to enjoy His creation during the Sabbath. The compound nature of the spirit of man and the Spirit of God made it possible for God to experience with man the joy and pleasure of abiding in and ruling over the creatures of the world as a Shepherd. Should the compound become a mixture due to a change in nature then the two spirits would be side by side with a barrier between. The oneness unity of GodÕs Spirit with manõs spirit as a compound element not only allowed God access to manõs world of the flesh but it allowed man access to GodÕs world of the Spirit. This spiritual union allowed God access to manõs life and allowed man access to GodÕs life. God could be the Husbandman Shepherd King over His creation which He desired and purposed in His creative work. Once Creation was finished God would cease His work as Creator and begin to work in and through the spirit of man to enjoy the Creation and the Creature. But to enjoy the Creation He needs the man and to enjoy man He must have his trust, reverence and respect. Therefore the entire purpose of Creation depends upon the faith of man. By simply trusting God man can give God the pleasure and glory which the Creator desired when He so designed all of creation. Now why must we understand this before we talk about Sin? Because this is the nature of sin, separating God from the pleasure of His Creation, and this is the nature of death, the separation itself. Lucifer the ruling Angel of Light was separated from GodÕs Spirit and GodÕs Spirit world which was the first death of a spirit. Angels are created spirits and have a created purpose. Lucifer was the greatest of the Archangels but sin caused his death along with many others. These fallen Angels make up a Kingdom of their own and are called Angels of darkness because they no longer have LuciferÕs illumination. The Kingdom of darkness has no light at all because it is completely separated (dead) from the spirit of light. These Spirits can no longer serve God or fulfill the purpose of their creation and are in a Kingdom where it is impossible to find satisfaction and enjoyment. They cannot reenter GodÕs Kingdom where they could be content and satisfied but are condemned and banished to outer darkness, frustration and gnashing of teeth. These fallen Angels of darkness seek the light much like the bugs of the night, but they seek in vain because God has shut them out of His Kingdom of light and life. God is a Spirit and God is Light therefore wherever God is there exists spiritual Light and spiritual life and one cannot exist without the other. The Creation is not a Spirit like the Creator, but a physical world which God gave physical light and physical life. The Spiritual Creator began on the first day with spiritual light and life, and then brought in a physical universe with physical light and physical life, and then put Himself into manõs spirit which gave man light and life. When a new world was created and the fallen spirits saw the light of this new world they were light seeking

Bible Study Notes; Oct. 2003 The History of Sin Page 4 of 4 Spirits trying to enter the creation. The light of the created world is in the spirit of Adam where light was taken out and put into Eve making her the glory of the light not the source of the light. Satan speaking through the beast soul deceived Eve to sin resulting in death to Eve just as sin had resulted in death to Lucifer. Death to Eve does not kill Adam, the source of her life anymore than killing Adam would kill God, the source of his life. Adam has dominion. Eve is his help meet in this commission to allow God to live and reign in the new world. Satan must come through Adam if he is to have dominion and he must separate Adam from God if he is to reign through Adam. Separation is death, therefore when the spirit is separated from its source of spiritual life it is a spiritual death just as when the spirit is separated from its source of physical life the soul is physically dead. Spiritual death occurred in the Garden from the one act of sin while physical death occurred later outside the Garden from lack of access to the Tree of Life, therefore physical death would occur regardless of behavior whether good or bad because death is within the body causing degeneration and senescence. From this we clearly see that mortals are in remission from life regardless of their (sin) behavior and need some way to escape death and the grave because they definitely cannot prevent them. This way was provided by God in the second Adam which does not prevent death but provides for resurrection from it. We also see how sin entered the Human Race through EveÕs deception to cause Adam to disobey losing his light and life resulting in losing access to the Tree of Life which kept his body from degeneration. Sin has now caused death in both the Human Spirit and the human body and will be transmitted by the human sperm (seed) to the Human Race. Just as Eve had received her life from Adam when he had life now mankind receives death from Adam because he has passed from life to Death (see notes on the human sperm.) This is when, where and how sin entered the original family of humans resulting in both spiritual and physical death which was passed on to the next generation through corrupt seed. This original entrance of sin caused Adam and Eve to lose their souls and this same death passed upon their offspring, giving them a lost soul. Death takes away life, whether Spirit life or body life. Now that death is being transmitted by procreation, all humans are born with the same Spiritual separation from God and the same degeneration in the body. This same separation and degeneration will put humans into remission to return to the Creation (dust) from which they came through the womb. This one original sin of Adam has brought death to the human Spirit and God drives him out and away from the Tree of Life where degeneration and senescence will bring death to the human body. This puts all lost souls on the basis of redemption because forgiveness cannot accomplish the restoration necessary to give life to a dead soul. God may forgive a lost or dead soul, but unless God also regenerates the Spirit and the Body, the Soul is still lost and dead. This is why every human soul enters the world at birth, lost (without life) and dead(subject to die). Since everyone is an heir to death in Adam they need the gift of God, which is an inheritance of life in the second Adam from a birth that brings them into GodÕs world (Kingdom). All mortals are born in a state of death and, therefore, need redemption (not forgiveness). This is why the world needs a Savior. We must differentiate between what Christ did to save the world from AdamÕs sin and what he did to save his people from their sin (Matt 1:21). The work of Christ is very unique for it relates both to His life and His death. Any person who has affected mankind has done so by those things which he did when He lived. However, when Jesus died He also paid off the mortgage that sin held on the grave. The works of Christ in death were more potent to more people than anything that He did in His lifetime. That is, in His death he ransomed the world from the wages of AdamÕs sin. In His life He called His people to save themselves from the wrath of God upon the nation by returning to faith and receiving a new covenant with their God. The works of man follow Him to the grave and may continue beyond death. But Jesus started and finished a work in His death which eclipses all that He did in His lifetime and which was retroactive to all who were descendants of Adam. The works of Christ during His lifetime had an effect upon His contemporaries and it continued into the future. His death, however, was retroactive to those in the past as well as present and future.

Bible Study Notes; Oct. 2003 The History of Sin Page 5 of 5 In His life Jesus spoke, taught and discipled His people for life in the new covenant. In His death He released the captives from AdamÕs grave and destroyed the gates of hell to join spirit and body in eternal life. The first Adam was the federal head of the River of Life that flowed out of Eden. That river was polluted with corruption and it left the dead along itõs banks for centuries. That is, until a man (the Second Adam) was born from above without corruption - and born again from the grave (last Adam) - to become the Federal Head of a new species of humans where the River of Life flows from the heart in all of His descendants (Jn. 7:38). The last Adam (from the grave) became the federal head of a new species of humans with a River of Life flowing from within to all of His descendants. The Bible tells us that David served His generation and then died. However, Jesus served His generation, then died and in so doing served every generation. On that basis, we conclude the death of Jesus is required to effect remission for the sin of Adam, while forgiveness effects remission for the sin of Israel. Notes to follow on THE SIN OF ISRAEL # # #
