Note From the Pope, In the pope's catechesis during the General Audience, he continued his series on baptism, speaking about the importance of the water. It permits a rebirth, a participation in His resurrection and most importantly, places an indelible mark on the soul. Thus, in Christ, and by the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, we are made adoptive children of the Father, with the Church as our spiritual Mother, he said. SUMMARY OF POPE'S CATECHESIS: Dear brothers and sisters, In our continuing catechesis on Baptism, we now turn to the central action of the baptismal rite. Through the pouring of water and the invocation of the Blessed Trinity, we are immersed in the mystery of Christ s death and rising to new life. Thus reborn, we become a new creation, passing from the corruption of sin to eternal life. In Christ, and by the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, we are made adoptive children of the Father, with the Church as our spiritual mother. This relationship is definitive and is sealed by an indelible mark on the soul. Henceforth, as members of Christ s body, we are committed to avoid sin and to conform our lives ever more fully to him. Following our rebirth in the waters of baptism, we are anointed with sacred chrism as a sign of our sharing in Christ s role as priest, prophet and king. As members of God s priestly people, we are called to offer our lives daily as a sacrifice pleasing to him. As a royal and prophetic people, we are called to proclaim Christ s kingship by our witness of faith and love, and our commitment to imitate him in loving service to our brothers and sisters. Speaker: I greet the English-speaking pilgrims and visitors taking part in today s Audience, particularly those from England, Finland, Indonesia, the Philippines, Canada and the United States of America. In a special way, I greet the small farmers from various countries meeting in Italy, with gratitude for their contribution to feeding our world. In the joy of the Risen Christ, I invoke upon you and your families the loving mercy of God our Father. May the Lord bless you all! Pentecost Sunday May 20, 2018 Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and enkindle in them the fire of your love! "When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth." Are you inclined to let the Holy Spirit lead you to your true vocation in the Risen Lord perhaps as a priest, deacon or consecrated religious? Talk to Fr. Steven Murray at 315-782-2468 or Fr. Doug Lucia at 315 386-2543/ dlucia@rcdony.org or Cathy Russell, the Diocesan Vocation Coordinator at 315-393-2920, ext. 1450/ crussell@rcdony.org. See us also on Facebook or at www.myvocation.net. OUR TITHING PARISH SEVENTH SUNDAY OF EASTER This Year $ 10,352.00 Last Year $ 8,954.05 Youth $ 18.00 Catholic Charities 2018 $ 4,971.00 Catholic Charities 2017 $ 5,238.00 Thank you for your continued generosity. Presence The Mystery of the Eucharist On FORMED Please do not forget to check this out on our website. Note From the Pastor, As we embark on the Diocesan Capital Campaign, our own Capital Campaign will come to an end. This will present us with a problem because income from our own campaign has kept us afloat for the past several years. Needless to say, we need to reflect on increased stewardship for our regular collection, and at the same time consider the Diocesan Campaign. The good news is that 75% of the monies raised in the Diocesan s campaign is returned to us. I hope this will make it possible for us to purchase the Lennox property on the corner of State & Winthrop Streets, providing us with much needed parking in the future, increasing the number of spaces by 50. We would also be able to do some preventative maintenance work on our magnificent stained glass windows, protecting them for the future. I am also hoping to do some exterior insulation of the addition on the back of the rectory. I have been told that it would be the most cost effective means of solving the situation, which occurs when we have sudden or severe drops in exterior temperature. This past winter when the temperature dropped to between 20 &30 degrees below zero in that part of the rectory, it was only 58 to 60 degrees. Considering what we were able to accomplish in our own campaign, well over ten years ago as you may well remember, we raised 1.5 million in the active phase of this campaign. So our goal of 750 thousand for this new campaign should be easily doable as they say. If any one has any concerns please contact me. So what will my pledge be to this Capital Campaign? A question I have been pondering. Last year my contribution to the Bishops Fund appeal was $2,750, which is part of the 2018 Appeal but not for the next 3years of the Campaign. Every year it is my goal to contribute $2,000. to Holy Family and $1000. to Catholic Charities as well as $1,000. to the Watertown Urban Mission, $1,000. to the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart and finally $1,500. to Immaculate Heart Schools. So maintaining my other commitments what can I afford to pledge to the Campaign? I think I can ably afford a pledge of $8,000. Check my math. If I have made a mistake let me know. Fr. Steven Murray
