Prelude and Chiming of the Hour THE CELEBRATION OF WORSHIP Gathering Around the Word Becky Carlisle Welcome and Announcements Visitors, we are glad you are worshiping with us today and appreciate your filling out the visitor's card found in the pew rack. Please place it in the offering plate. Prayer request cards are in the pew racks if you wish to use them and bring them to the Communion Table during the Passing the Peace. Call to Worship One: O God, your majestic name fills the earth! Your glory is higher than the heavens. All: You have taught children and infants to tell of your strength, silencing your enemies and all who oppose you. One: When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers the moon and the stars you set in place what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them? All: Yet you made them only a little lower than God and crowned them with glory and honour. One: You gave them charge of everything you made, putting all things under their authority the flocks and the herds and all the wild animals, the birds in the sky, the fish in the sea, and everything that swims the ocean currents. All: Holy One, our God, your majestic name fills the earth! *Opening Hymn #356 Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing *Prayer of Confession Silence One: God of promises made, All: Too often we have been quick to corrupt your good creation. We have failed to be blessings for others. We have not trusted in your promises. Our thoughts, words, and deed have been selfish. Re-create us in your image, and heal us of our sin. Amen. *Assurance of Grace *Gloria Patri #579 *Passing of the Peace One: As a forgiven and reconciled people, let us share with one another signs of peace. The peace of Christ be with you. BENEFIT CONCERT AT ARVADA PRESBYTERIAN The Lomagundi Clinic Partnership is a program between the Presbytery of Denver and the Presbytery of Zimbabwe supporting a clinic in rural Chinhoyi, Zimbabwe. The clinic is staffed by one doctor, one general, and four nurses; the staff sees 700-800 people a month, 200 of which are children under the age of five. The last concert benefitting the clinic will feature the Kutandara Marimba Group this Saturday, September 13, at 7 p.m. at Arvada Presbyterian Church, 5592 Independence St. Tickets are $15 and are available at the door. Children 10 and under are free. PRESBYTERY OF DENVER Making Connections! When did we see you? they said to the Son of Man. If you did it to the least, you did it to me. Jesus has called us to connect with our invisible neighbors, those who are near us but others cannot see. Across the Presbytery of Denver, mission partnerships are connecting us with these Invisible neighbors and letting us see the presence of Christ. It is happening through the Self Improvement Opportunities Mission Partnership that opens its doors to those wanting to complete education and also begin a new life. The severely mentally ill who walk the streets of Denver are given a welcome and real community through the Network Ministries Mission Partnership. The Empowering Incarcerated Women Mission Partnership offers hope and the building of life skills for women in jail. For many in our world, they all are invisible people. But to those who support them through mission giving we are connected. Through the Mission of the Presbytery of Denver -- We make connections! HAVE YOU WONDERED HOW YOU COULD DONATE TO GOOD SHEPHERD WHEN YOU BUY GROCERIES? Safeway, King Soopers, and Albertsons have rewards programs which can benefit Good Shepherd, without costing you anything. Good Shepherd buys reloadable grocery gifts cards from Safeway (Community by Giving, $10.00 per card) and King Soopers (Neighborhood Reward Program, $25.00 per card). These cards are loaded with either the $10 or $25 that you pay and that money is available for you to use. At the grocery store you may add any amount you wish to your card by cash, check or debit/credit card as a reload before you check out. Albertsons Community Partners cards are free. Each grocery store tracks the numbers on the back of the cards sold/assigned to Good Shepherd. Safeway and King Soopers send monthly statements showing the amount of the reloads for the month. When the reloads reach $5,000, the grocery stores send Good Shepherd a rebate check in the amount of 5.00% of the reloads. Albertsons sends Good Shepherd quarterly checks for a percentage of the total amount of groceries purchased. Good Shepherd received $270 from King Soopers in February, $277.75 in July, and as of 08/09/2014 has an additional $2,125 toward another $5,000.00 reloads goal. We should reach our Safeway goal in September and will receive a rebate. In August Good Shepherd received a quarterly rebate check in the amount of $43.59 from Albertsons. That s how you can give to Good Shepherd by buying groceries and without spending an extra dime. NOTE OF THANKS Thank you to everyone for the cards, calls, good thoughts and prayers for my recent eye surgery. I am recuperating well and hope to see you soon.
