The Clarion Summer 2013 Volume: XVIII Issue 1 EXCITING HAPPENINGS IN LWML CID! Well, sit down and have a cup of your favorite coffee, or whatever. We have much to discuss! With two conven ons already in 2013, your District Board of Directors has been busy. First the District Conven on was held in Decatur, which was great and well a ended. The Ladies of the Decatur Zone did a really good job of hos ng 200 of us for that event in the lovely facility at LSA (Lutheran School Associa on) building. It was held earlier this year, April, not June, (which will now be con nued for the next few years), and, as it did much of this spring in Illinois, rained that day also. However, it did not dampen our a tudes. We were blessed to have one of our na onal pastoral counselors, Rev. Kris Whitby, who, we found, is a na ve of CID, born and raised in Peoria. We had good speakers at the break out sessions and an overwhelming turn out for the Ingathering event! We had the opportunity to learn new things. That commi ee did a great job! Thanks Lois and girls! And the noon meal was the BEST! 127 LWML CID ladies took two chartered buses, and some drove themselves, to Pi sburgh, PA. It was a really GOOD na onal conven on. Each of us enjoyed it especially this year, as we did not have to work this one! We had great book ends for this event. Rev. Dr. Dien Taylor was the proclaimer at the Opening Worship on Thursday night, and Rev. Dr. Victor Belton preached at the Closing Worship service on Sunday morning. WOW, and then the cream of the crop for every speaker, bible study teacher, and presenter in the middle of those two pastors! The Saturday night entertainment with Mia was wonderful! She le our conven on to go speak at the Youth Gathering in San Antonio, TX. We will discuss all of those in more detail in the next Clarion I understand These days are busy and exci ng within our District. We have had PING, two conven ons, and are looking forward to the Fall Rallies in each Zone the weeks of September 16 and 23, 2013. Followed by a GREAT Fall Retreat being planned at Camp Cilca for October 25 26. We are offering a wonderful and rare opportunity with Guest Speaker, Rev. Kevin Parviz and his wife Coleen, who will be teaching us about the Jewish customs of the Old Testament and much, much more. Rev. Parviz is the LCMS pastor of the Chai v Shalom and the Apple of His Eye MO. He is the Execu ve Director of Burning Bush Ministries which has a na onal/interna onal emphasis, and is an RSO of LCMS. He is a completed Jew he is a Jew by birth and upbringing who that has been blessed to find Jesus as his Lord and Savior. Rev. Kevin will share his personal, interes ng tes mony; teach us about the meanings of the Seder meal and it s proper es; take us from Exodus 12: 1 20 to Acts 2:42 47; and teach us with first hand knowledge of many things from a Hebrew prospec ve. You won t want to miss this exci ng and rare opportunity!! Tell your friends and sign up early. Watch for more details to come soon. His wife, Coleen, is a licensed counselor and will also be sharing with us some up to date concerns of our families within the church and our country. They both have a burden for Community for the Church. The Theme is: A Thirst for Community. Ladies, please submit mission grant proposals before December 31, 2013. They are all around you. 2011 CONVENTION IS NOT FORGOTTEN 2011 is s ll on our mind. We are once again using up scraps and recycling vests by pu ng together two quilts from the remains of the 2011 Peoria Na onal Conven on. One is a Nine patch and the other is a Roundabout pa ern. Both quilts will use the colors of blue, yellow and red. The Nine patch will be approximately 70 " x 98". The Roundabout will be approximately 70"x 70". We hope to have them done by our district conven on in Effingham in April of 2014. We plan to have separate silent auc ons and let two fortunate people take them home with them. The money will once again go toward our Mite goal. If you have any ques ons, you may contact Marilyn Winter at 618 553 6023. The Lutheran Hour speaker, Rev. Paul Seiltz is coming to the Central Illinois District on Sunday, December 8th. He will be speaking at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Altamont, Il, at a Lutheran Laymen's League Rally hosted by the Effingham, Shelby, and Altamont circuits. "Share the LIGHT of Christmas" beginning at 2 p.m. with a variety of music and Word, There will be an opportunity to visit with Pastor Seiltz at a recep on following the program. PASTORAL COUNSELOR MEDITATION As I write this, we are in the early weeks of summer. What might be called the season for growth. We see the plants in the fields and in gardens growing, blossoming, and producing fruit. We have the opportunity to appreciate the beauty of God s crea on and give thanks for the blessings that He gives to us. As believers, there is no special season of growth for us. We can grow and blossom and produce fruit throughout the year. What we need for this process in us is not much different from the plants that are cul vated. We need the Son to warm us with His love and enlighten us by His Spirit. We need the water of life that He supplies through the forgiveness of our sins. We need the nourishment that comes from the Word of God and the Sacramental gi s we have been given. As our Lord works in us by His Spirit so that we grow and blossom and produce fruit, it leads to others giving thanks to the Father for what He has done in and through us to the glory of His name. Yours in Christ, Pastor Steven Becker, Jr. Counselor 2

CONVENTION STAMP TRIMMING A er our District conven on in April, we took a trunk load of stamps to Pastor Kesslemayer. He was very pleased to get all the stamps. Unfortunately, he has had to throw away some of the stamps because they were trimmed to close to the stamp and the perfora ons were damaged. PLEASE, PLEASE leave at least 1/8" to 1/4" of paper around the stamp. The stamp needs to be 100% whole and undamaged or we cannot sell the stamp. When trimming a stamp please remember that there must be 1/8" to 1/4" of paper showing around the stamp. Get out your rulers and look to see what an 1/8 inch looks like. We cannot sell the stamps if any of the perfora on edges of the stamp are cut. Kristel Zobrist 6
