ROSE ON THE ALTAR is in honor of Polly Cunningham s 86th birthday which will be February 15. FEBRUARY LUTHERAN WITNESS is now available in the narthex. NEW MEMBER SUNDAY will be Sunday, April 11, at the 8am service. If you are interested in joining Redeemer, please speak to one of the pastors as soon as possible. Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, February 17. For many years, Christians have used those forty days before Easter as a time to reflect upon their lives and to consider what our Lord has done for us. Our Lenten theme this year is The Sign of Jonah. Services will be each Wednesday at 4:15 pm and 7 pm. Holy communion and the imposition of ashes will be offered on Ash Wednesday. We are thankful for the several groups which will be serving supper each week from 5:00-6:30 pm. Any profits from this free-will offering will help to defray Pastor Settle s seminary expenses. BARS FOR LENTEN SUPPER - If you re willing to make bars for the Ash Wednesday supper (February 17), please sign up on the sheet in the narthex on the counter. Thank you. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED to serve the Lenten Supper on Wednesday, February 24. Please call the church office (289-5147) to volunteer your group! NEXT WEEKEND S READINGS Deuteronomy 26:1-11, Romans 10:8b-13, and Luke 4:1-13 Theme: Not Alone Facing Temptation 1 Week of 2-14-2010

Starting Sunday, February 14 Dead Sea Scrolls -Discovered in the desert in 1947, these scrolls include the oldest copies of books of the Bible, dating to before the time of Christ. Pastor Heining and those in this class will consider the impact these old writings have had upon Christianity. Some may wish to participate in a trip to see the scrolls, which will be on display at the Science Museum in St. Paul this Spring. This class will meet in the South Fellowship Hall. Gospel of Matthew - Join Pastor Settle as he will look at the very unique message that St. Matthew has to give to Christians today, and the unique perspective he gives us on our Savior. This class will be held in the North Fellowship Hall. Laugh Your Way to a Better Marriage - For those that missed the workshop last spring or those that need a refresher join us for a hilariously practical look at marriage and how to make yours stronger. This class will combine video clips from Mark Gungor and group discussion. You will laugh out loud and learn at the same time! Lynn Schoppers will facilitate this class in Room 205 - Choir Room. Minnesota Uganda Connections..... THANK YOU! Through your generosity we now have all the lotions, jewelry, devotionals, and blank journals for the Women s Gift Bags! There is still need for small devotional Bibles (all the same please). Several dozen of each reading glasses, sun glasses and primary reading books have already been donated. More are welcome! We are visiting 3 villages and will share these within each village. There is still time. The departure date for the team is March 15, 2010. Again, THANK YOU! You are a blessing to this mission trip! B.R.I.G.H.T. NIGHT STARTS AGAIN FEBRUARY 17 This session is a hands-on adventure with Betty Brand. Betty and her helpers will take the kids on adventures with the animals from the Bible. Find out how God uses camels, donkeys, fish and more in the Bible! There will be crafts, games, food, and Bible time. Don t miss out! Sign up on the counter in the Narthex and please do not be afraid to bring a friend or two! This session of B.R.I.G.H.T. Night is for kids in 1st through 6th grade and will take place for six Wednesday nights starting February 17. B.R.I.G.H.T. Night runs from 7-8 pm. 2 Week of 2-14-2010

Cholesterol Screening this Sunday, February 14, 2009 On Sunday, February 14, nurses will be available to do Total Cholesterol Screening. Testing will be available in the South Fellowship Hall between 8:30 and 10:30 AM. Total Cholesterol Screening will not tell you how much good or bad cholesterol that you have only the total cholesterol. This testing is a screening and a Health Care Provider is needed for clarification and direction. For your best results it is best to fast (no food or drink after midnight except a glass of water and medications) before this cholesterol screening is done. Questions, contact Jan Dicke, 288-6405 or a member of the Health Cabinet. Cholesterol is in every cell of the body and every cell needs it. But risk for cardiovascular disease goes up considerably if there is too much of this waxy, fatty substance in the blood. Low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol is often referred to as bad cholesterol. Over time, it can build up in blood vessels with other substances to form plaque. That can cause a blockage, resulting in heart attack or stroke. In contrast, highdensity lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol is often good cholesterol because it helps clean cholesterol from blood vessels. FINANCIAL UPDATE What a good start! January Budget Expenses - $71,674 January Budget Income - $80,625 While January is normally a tough month for churches, having five Sundays this year was certainly an advantage. But it is only by the power of the Holy Spirit that God s people give generously for his work. Thanks to all! WOMEN TO WOMEN - We ve heard the statistics about women and their heart health, now Dr. Virginia Miller and Kathleen Zarling, RN, of the Mayo Clinic discuss the importance of remembering that you re more than a caregiver and how to not only take care of your family, but yourself. You can hear them at the following times and radio stations this week: KCMR Mason City 97.9 Mon 1:30 & 8:30 pm KDHL Faribault 920 AM Sun 10:30 am KSUM Fairmont 1370 AM Sun 8:00 am THE FRIENDSHIP TREE -Sponsored by RLCW, the month of February is our annual ingathering of baby items for local charities.
