Archdiocese of Detroit St. John s Deaf Center Our Lady of Loretto West Detroit Catholic Deaf Catholic Deaf Newsletter Volume 36 Issue 8 www.sjdc-oll.org August 2017 Dear Brothers and Sisters, I hope you are having a nice summer! I truly had a wonderful time at the ICDA (International Catholic Deaf Association-US) conference in St. Louis on June 25 30. I was proud because there were 13 people from Michigan who attended the conference. There was no other State that had more attendees than Michigan. The presenters were very good; we learned a great deal about our Catholic faith and the history of Deaf people in the Catholic Church. The Masses were very inspiring, and we enjoyed seeing old faces again and making new friends. Milwaukee ICDA Chapter will host the Midwest ICDA conference on April 27 29, 2018. I will make sure to include the flyer for this conference in the newsletter when I get one. I hope you will consider going to Milwaukee next year. The Archdiocese of Detroit is very honored that a Detroiter, Fr. Solanus Casey a famous holy priest who died in 1950s will become Blessed on November 18. A beatification Mass will be held on November 18 at Ford Field. We will arrange an interpreter to be present at the Mass for Deaf participants. I will share the information in the newsletter once the details are finalized. If you have not yet made a financial contribution to Catholic Service Appeals (CSA), then I ask that you do this very soon. It is very important that we have more people from our community contribute. The Archdiocese of Detroit has been very supportive financially of our Deaf Ministry. Without their help, we would never be able to afford to run St. John s Deaf Center, hire a priest to work full time with Deaf people, hire Jakki, and many other things we enjoy at SJDC and OLL. As of now, 34 people from SJDC and OLL have already made a donation to CSA. We do appreciate that support; however, this is a very small representation of the over 130 people who regularly attend Mass at SJDC / Holy Innocents and OLL. Since the Archdiocese of Detroit is very supportive of our Deaf Catholic Ministry, can t we also show our support to the Archdiocese? How do we do this? Contribute money to the CSA! Please consider my request and send a donation to CSA so that the Archdiocese will know that we appreciate their recognition and support of Deaf Ministry. Thank you and God bless. Fr. MD

We welcome everyone, including our hearing brothers and sisters, who want to experience the richness of our Deaf culture as well as deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ through prayer, service, and the Sacraments. E News If you would like to receive the newsletter, please give us your email address. Contact: Gail Buchalaski at mgbuchalski7@sbcglobal.net Or Jakki Felix at jakkifelix04@gmail.com A Prayer of Unbelievers Dear loving Lord, How can it be, that they don't know you and that they don't love you? Why must they suffer so much? Why won t they come to you? If they could only taste just a single drop of your love, it would change everything. Reach out Lord! Reach into their hearts, Touch them, Free them, and Heal them. Let them come to know the sweet waters of your mercy. Let them know they can be forgiven, alive, clean, and free. Make it so, oh Lord! Send your Spirit to change your world. Only by your blood, can the captives be set free. So I kneel before your throne, as all salvation is yours alone. Save them Lord! Set them free! Amen. If you are interested in becoming a Catholic and/or have been baptized but have never made First Holy Communion or received Confirmation, we have a process called Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RICA). Please Contact Fr. MD at (VP) 586-439-0146 or depcik@desales.org
