Pastor Lisa s Lines Part of my job, as pastor, is to care for each of you and your families, and offer guidance, prayer and aid when things aren t going so great. I am honored to enter into your lives in these areas where you trust me to tread and I am thankful for this time. The past few weeks have been these times for me. They have been heavy and filled with prayer, sadness, and seeking guidance for myself and those I love. I am thankful to the UMW for their worship service on June 24 th which allowed me to be away and caring for my family, as with the Mission Committee for putting together worship on August 5 th! When it is appropriate to share all that is going on, I will. In the meantime, I ask for your prayers for God s peace. I am reminded of Jesus words in Matthew when he is thanking God for his wisdom and then speaking to those around him: Table of Contents Page # Pastor Lisa s Lines 2-3 Book Club 3 Children/Youth 4 Belize Mission 5 Committees 5 Calendar 6-7 Birthdays/ Anniv. 8 Nursery 9 Community Garden 10 Choir Schedule 11 Bible Study 11 Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Matthew 11: 28-30 Summer is always busier than I think it should be, but this year it is filled with heaviness. I am thankful that I might find rest in Jesus and those of you who continue to take his words seriously and allow him to use you as strength and guidance and a July 2018 2
listening ear for others. As we move through these months of warm afternoons parades and fun events and activities, not to mention camps; may we each remember to take a moment and breathe in the spirit of rest and renewal. Let us place ourselves at the feet of Christ and ask his gentleness and find rest for our souls. Wherever you find yourself this summer, find rest in Jesus. Bringing Community into the Garden The Community Fellowship Garden is in its fourth year and 2018 has seen many exciting changes. The garden committee made this the year of community in the garden. The season started with an Open House in early March for the entire Montrose community. Over 100 people attended. In April, the MUMC church community pitched in for a clean up day. The youth confirmation class also helped - decorating benches that had been donated by the community. A shade sail was installed with donations of time and materials from the UMW and a handy friend in the community. The garden was open in May and sold out by mid-month. Over 60% of the gardeners are not affiliated with the church but are part of the Montrose community. A church member donated a registration for a little library. We approached the community for help to create the library. The Woodworkers Guild of Western Colorado generously built and donated the library. In June, the garden was selected to be part of the Montrose Botanical Society s 2018 Garden Tour. Over 200 people from the Montrose community visited the garden. Whew! And you thought the garden was just for growing vegetables! If you haven t been by the garden, take a moment to walk through. Come on in and join our COMMUNITY! July 2018 10
