Mothering Sunday was on the Fourth Sunday of Lent. Long ago, people were freed from work to travel on this day to the parish where they were baptized, their Mother Church. Often, people were reunited with their mothers on this day. Employers would release their workers and servants for this visit. The American celebration, while based on this custom, really has to do with an anti-war movement of mothers in Civil War times. They crusaded for better sanitary conditions for their sons. When President Wilson instituted the first Mother s Day in 1912, it was a day to fly the flag in honor of mothers whose children had died in battle. Knowing the tradition is a good balance to our celebration today. We can enfold in prayer the mothers who have suffered the loss of their children in war Rev. James Field, Copyright J. S. Paluch Co.

Babies In The Womb Are Pre-Born Well chosen words have power. Consider how the pro-abortion advocates marketed and sold their endorsement of abortion. It is not called promurder. It is called pro-choice. They appealed to the culture s mentality; a mentality that we had been exhibiting since the 1960s. We live in a cafeteria culture. Thus, the Madison Avenue advertising gurus cleverly chose pro-choice in promoting death, but also in concealing the truth; pro-murder. Therefore, with the knowledge and scientific understanding that life begins at fertilization, and that we are living human beings in the womb, why don t we all use the reference preborn? If we support life, and acknowledge that a child deserves our respect, support and protection while waiting comfortably in the womb until the birth process, why not give them the dignity they deserve and refer to them as preborn? Let s proclaim life accurately. Because now that we know the truth, referring to them as anything less is not only unkind, it is also uninformed. POPE FRANCIS - A MAN OF HIS WORD - opens nationwide on May 18, 2018. You may never have a chance to meet Pope Francis in person, but this movie co-produced with the Vatican s Office of Communication, may make you feel as if you did. We had the honor of sitting down with the Vatican to hear their thoughts on the film and about Pope Francis s participation in the project. The Vatican has said, The film masterfully shares the tenderness, humanity, and revolutionary thinking of Pope Francis, and shows that he is a man who practices what he preaches. Father Joe Walijewski - Please join us for the Mass celebrating the closing of the investigation of Father Joe s life and cause for sainthood on Sunday, May 27, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral.
