Pastor s Report: Confirmation is this weekend. Practice will be on Saturday. Fr. Marc said he is grateful that the kids are into receiving the sacrament. The following weekend is first communion at the Saturday and 10:30 Sunday masses. The open lottery for commissions and councils is April 24 th at the 8:00 am mass. Even though Fr. advised that people should not nominate current members, most of the council members were re-nominated. Fr. Marc thanked the council members for attending the joint meeting with St. Christopher s on February 11 th which explained the process that the Archdiocese goes through to assist parishes that are going to share a pastor. He also thanked the council members who were able to attend the joint Town Hall meeting at St. Peter s. Fr. Marc explained that when there is an open listing it normally consists of 2 rounds. The 1 st round is pastors. The 2 nd round is parochial Vickers/associate pastors. The Archdiocese could not identify an appropriate candidate in the 1 st round, so it went out a second time. Bishop Binzer said they will be able to announce the new pastor by Mother s Day. Fr. Marc had one priest call him to ask questions about the opening, since he knew the parishes are a pastoral region. 3 pastors were nominated for St. Christopher s. However in a joint decision with the Archdiocese it was decided that they should stay where they are. That is why the opening is being sent out for a second round. Unless something unforeseeable happens, we should know who the new pastor is by Mother s Day. Greg Andrews asked what would happen if no one is found. Fr. Marc indicated that if that happened, the Archbishop would appoint someone. Fr. Marc said that he thinks the potential pastors are concerned about being responsible for two parishes. Fr. Marc is 65. As such, he doesn t have to leave at the completion of his second term. Normally a pastor can stay at one parish for two 6 year terms. After that they move on. Once a pastor turns 63 he can stay where he is until retirement. We will have Fr. Marc as our full-time pastor until he retires, which will delay the date that the two parishes will have to share one pastor. Gary Chafin asked about the joint planning committee. Matt said he has some names. Fr. Keferl feels it would be advantageous to have a meeting before he retires. David Koch will serve as the representative of the finance council, even though his term is expiring. Bill McGrath and Kathleen McCrillis have been meeting with Fr. for several years and will likely remain as part of the committee. Fr. Marc will ask Fr. Keferl about a meeting at the next RCIA session. Round Robin: Greg Andrews advised that a meeting was held regarding the garden. They will be meeting once a week, on Tuesdays, to have a gardening session. The first meeting will be May 3 rd at 6:00 pm. He said that some people are apprehensive about taking on a whole week by themselves. Greg Andrews and Gary Chafin volunteered to make phone calls to council and commission nominees this weekend to identify those that are interested in serving. Father needs to know those willing to serve by Tuesday. Ministry Report for Next Meeting: Kathy Herzog and Treva Monnier will present the parish budget for the council s review and recommendation. Doug Richters will provide hospitality for the May meeting, Joseph Moore will present Adult Faith Formation, and Matt Sinning will provide the Closing Prayer of Gratitude. Doug Richters closed the meeting with a Prayer of Gratitude.
The meeting adjourned at approximately 8:12 PM. Next Meeting: The next meeting of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Parish Pastoral Council will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at 7:15 pm. Respectfully Submitted: /s/ Gary S. Chafin for Mary H. Chafin, Recording Secretary
